Maybe he should have asked the Career Criminal for permission to defend himself?

Cops were able to show up within a day, it seems.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

While people do have the right to defend themselves and their property if they believe they are facing a threat under Canadian law, those rights "are not unlimited in Canada," Robertson said.

"The law requires that any defensive action be proportionate to the threat faced," Robertson said.

"This means that while homeowners do have the right to protect themselves and their property, the use of force must be reasonable given the circumstances."

In his statement, Robertson also acknowledged that the case has generated "significant public interest and emotional responses."

That's a ridiculous law.

I remember when I woke up and found an intruder in our home early one morning. The creepy thing is, I remember him asking "What are you doing?" just as I was about to hit a light switch. I didn't know if he was crazy or high or what and I was scared to death! And honestly, had PTSD for a year afterwards!

Your average John and Jane Doe are unlikely to have much experience or training dealing with intruders. Adrenaline shoots sky high facing someone, you don't know if they have a weapon or what risk they pose or how violent they're going to get. You think most people are going to rationally evaluate EXACTLY how much force is allowable? Even cops in broad daylight makes mistakes, what about John Q Citizen? I say, if you have a gun ready, shoot first and ask later.

Anybody steps foot in my house uninvited they're walking away with at least two holes, if they're walking away at all after facing off with my Colt .45.

Little running gag my old man and I have is that he always knocks on my kitchen door and says "It's just me. Don't shoot." every time he comes over.

Had myself a little creepy night the other night too. Noticed a loud vehicle parked in front of my house for about 15 minutes with the loud engine running. That, in and of itself isn't too odd. Day or night, because of my location, lots of people just kind of park around. On many of our trash days, right around lunch time, I see the city garbage trucks line up around me because it's a good street for it.

The engine eventually shut off, and I didn't notice anybody get out of the car. It was super dark out at this point and I really couldn't see too much, but with a distant street light and the lights from neighbor's houses and porches as well as my own I would have seen a shadow or two if somebody had gotten out.

An hour later, now around 10:30PM, the car starts up again for about 10 minutes, then stops. Once again, no visible signs of somebody getting in and out of the car.

11:15, once again the car fires up, this time with its headlights on again. I'd had enough at this point, and was just about ready to go outside and start some shit.

Cooled down for a second before I did anything rash, and rather than go outside I just stood right in front of my very large porch windows (with my porch lights always on 24/7), puffed out my chest while leaning on my very visible wooden baseball bat and fixing them with a cold dead stare.

Didn't take long for them to notice it because they got the hell out of dodge quickly when I did that. Even made sure to move as creepy as I could and give them a really good look at my crazy eyes as they sped off.

Thought later that it could have been the next door neighbor's high school kid. That's probably the most likely explanation for it. She was probably just out in her boyfriend's car and parked far enough down the way where her parents wouldn't have seen her and him messing around. Good place for it, honestly. Dark and quiet. A spot I would have picked with one of my girlfriends back in the day for sure.

If that's the case, too bad for them that despite the rest of my body starting to take that downward plunge, I still have the hearing of a bat. Oh well... Bet they won't do that again, whoever they are.
