SIGNY: The heat wave did arrive, and it'll be over 90F for about a week. But I did go out early this AM to toss about a yard of mulch around the oak tree, and made a significant dent in the mulch pile that me neighbors have been staring at for quite a while. Also went and picked some avocadoes for the (many) salads that are in our immediate future.
And now, back to work...

SIX: Way to keep at it.
Finally feel a little bit of accomplishment today after about a week of not doing much. I still have way too much furniture in my living room, but at least the 1st floor doesn't look like a bomb hit it anymore.

I thought the weather might cool down a bit by next weekend, but the heatwave is gonna persist, so above 90F (32C) for the next ten days predicted. Not this weekend but next weekend I'm gonna head to the foothills - where it's going to be a little over 100F - and help someone measure their yard and maybe, if I have enuf steam in me, pick up some rocks. But we're gonna eat out first and I'm picking up the tab this time since they picked up the tab last time.

Following your lead .. house is gonna get cleaned and organizing gonna start, again!

Got the dog walk and errands done EARLY. There was a paper shredding event that I just found out about yesterday so I boogied a couple of boxes over this AM, after walking the dog.

Well, yesterday was something of a break for me since most of my work was indoors and today -and for the foreseeable future - will continue the same (32C+ weather next 10 days, no cool down in sight).

So still filing and tidying up the office, which hasn't been done in... years(?). I'll be working on that for quite a few days, I think.

I agree! If I were cooking for myself it would be canned tuna and ground beef or ground turkey meatballs every day, with frozen vegetables and maybe a fresh fruit. Maybe!

Outside of monthly/yearly bills, I pay for everything with cash and bartering and I don't own a cell phone. Nobody knows where I am, although I'm sure that Big Brother wonders why I don't use the internet for days at a time at random intervals.

The Appalachians weren't the destination, but they sure made some beautiful scenery to drive by and break up the monotony. This is my first time being in a car for more than 4 hours at a time. Ever. I was honestly dreading the thought, despite the good company. It was around 15 hours in on day to get there including rest stops. On our way back I surprised myself and said we could take an extra day. My dad wanted to show me some stuff and added several hundred extra miles and we did about 10/11 hours each day and stayed at a hotel. The driving was fine, but by the middle of day 3 after the sightseeing was over and the land got flat I'd decided that if I'm not in a car for a month after this trip it will be too soon.



It was really nice though. This is my step-brother who was the reason I went to the Easter party when I was super sick and was a day away from getting a diagnosis. He got married and moved to the east coast and I hadn't seen him for about 3 years. We used to all get together for Christmas. If you remember, at my last job, I was willing to lose my job if they didn't give me Christmas Day off because of that. I'm willing to work every other holiday all year, but that was important to me since I had two brothers who lived on opposite ends of the country that I'd only see at Christmas time. But then Covidmania happened and they stopped traveling and barred anyone who didn't get jabbed from being in their vicinity. Up until last year I'd still get together with the rest of the family, but this year my dad, step-mom and half-brother went out to visit them for 10 days at Christmas. My disabled brother is stuck where he is now because of his playfully destructive cat, so he wasn't coming into town for Christmas either. I ended up celebrating Christmas and Thanksgiving with my friend and his family.

So he wanted me to come out last weekend with my Dad and I did. They've got a gorgeous house and a brutal HOA that wants to make sure the neighborhood stays historic. He paid a mint for the place, but at least he got in right before they raised the rates from 3%.

I'm still in a work funk. I thought it had passed, and was caused by anticipating/dreading the trip. I'll get back into the swing of things.

too bad about the tape, but good thing you have the album now. i assume you mean n actual vinyl record? that must mean you have a record player, those are scarcer than hen's teeth now.

since a lot of my activities are weather driven and yesterday and today are cloudy and cooler - a two-day break in the hot spell- i've been out doing yardwork early, got three big bins of weeds out and scattered some sunflower, cosmos, and evening primrose seeds in the cleaned-up nasturium bed. i do hope they come up and bloom!

I checked back in my diary. I've been chipping away at yardwork again since mid-July, an hour or two in the AM, schedule permitting, and it IS shaping up, again. Doesn't need a heroic effort in the hot sun; a time-available effort pays off.
Also, since it's not raining and I'm only watering the desired plants, weeds just don't have the conditions to grow.


They're still predicting a cool down at the end of this ten-day forecast, so I should be able to do some heavier-duty work, like regrading. Until then I'll just keep doing littker stuff like weeding and lawnmowing.

Well right now at 8:18pm, computer temp reads 22C which is 74F and there are some clouds rolling in. Maybe by the time I shut this down for the night the rain will have arrived.
