In a piece from yesterday, FreightWaves broke down the numbers to get the real story. If you count only the ships waiting within 40 miles of the ports, which was the standard measure, it is true that the number of waiting ships has declined by over 40 percent, as Seroka said. When I'm not stocking up on bulk-buy stuff at Sam's, I'm buying groceries at ALDI. they've been half-empty for at least 5 or 6 weeks now. It's a crap shoot if they're going to have what I want when I go there, and I'm sure that I'm not helping things either. The last time they had vegetables, I bought 14 bags worth because I hadn't seen any in 10 days.

If I remember, I'll post with what Sam's looks like next week if I go down with my Dad to visit my bro. He's got the membership and I just leech off of it.

I haven't seen empty shelves at Piggly Wiggly, Pick-N-Save, Festival, Avenue Markets, Red Owl, Aldi, Meijers (few days ago), Target.
Maybe Woodman's, and Walmart groc shelves are always empty. And Kwik Trip always has empty shelves.
Farm & Fleet had empty shelves around, but I still found the items I went for.

Well... like I said, the ALDI by me looks like what happens in the first few days of the apocalypse. And it's been trending that way for a month and a half now.

It's not as bad as when the beerbug first hit and nobody could buy toilet paper, but it's not too far off from that now.

The Dollar Tree looked fine a week or so the last time I was there. That is to say, it didn't look any worse than it always does. It's the worst Dollar Tree that I've ever stepped into on a good day.

I should probably know what the Sam's looks like next week, but it's not my local one so I don't know how useful that info would be.

Assuming I can find what I need next week, I might be buying more than I usually would.

Particularly coffee. A search a few days ago didn't show that the price had gone up yet, but I've been hearing that coffee has gone up 50% in price (one of the highest price increases on any product in Bidenflation, even above used cars). Maybe that just means that Starbucks is charging even more for their overpriced brew.

My local $ Tree has not raised prices, but said they will in a few weeks, only on some items.

Seems like gas is about double of pre-Obiden.

Sometimes it seems meat is more expensive, but that sense is fleeting.

Restaurant prices have really gone up a lot. I notice at Firehouse Subs. Maybe that is just national chains. Local restaurants seem to have the same menus, with same prices.

They did it at mine 3 weeks ago.

The only thing I've seen in the entire store that isn't $1.25 now is greetings cards, which are still a great deal at $0.50.

For years my favorite BBQ joint had Jumbo Chicken Wings for me to buy. 6 piece for $6.50, or $6 on Wings Wednesday, 12 piece for $12, $11 on Wednesday.

Until last year. Then they had to take it off the menu, because they couldn't get chicken due to the chicken shortage - which some folks blamed on the Texas Disaster in Feb.

Now they have it back, and I ordered 6 piece, they didn't mention the total. The new price is $10 for 6 piece, and $20 for 12 piece.
My "6 piece Jumbo Chicken Wings" consisted of 4 drummies plus 1 half size wing, and 1 actual jumbo wing.

That is quite a price hike. Thanks Joe.

When it comes to the 'supply chain' I've had no problem getting imports from England. I have had problems getting particular groceries that are sourced in the US, particularly pork, canned salmon, and safflower oil; but especially pork and pork products like a particular brand of bacon (it disappeared almost 2 years ago from the only store that carried it), a particular brand of ham (unavailable for roughly 2 years), and a particular brand of ground pork (it disappeared 6 months ago after being on the shelf intermittently).
