The IRS Booster Act does not give a tax credit for a single coal burning car that is made in the world right now because of the requirement that 50% of the materials for the battery need to be from North America, and none of them are.

Ford also raised it's price of the F-150 coal burning truck $7,500 just in time to get your subsidy, paid for by the poor and lower middle class.

6ix: The Inflation Reduction Act Will Soon Make it Cheaper to Buy EVs—If They Have North American Batteries

When lawmakers drafted the climate and energy package, one of the main focuses was to freeze China out of the supply chain. The legislation aims to stimulate U.S. production of raw materials like iron and phosphate as opposed to relying on batteries that contain high levels of nickel and cobalt that are imported from China.

In order to qualify for the $7,500 tax credit, electric vehicles must contain a battery built in North America with minerals mined or recycled on the continent. The legislation stipulates that by 2024, at least 50% of EV batteries must come from the U.S., Canada, or Mexico, with that figure rising to 100% by 2028.

There is a battery that bypasses China's advantages in materials. Congress is forcing the auto makers to use that battery (designed in Texas) rather than keep buying 60 year old technology from China. If the auto makers keep buying from China, the auto makers can't take advantage of the $7,500 rebate.

No it won't. Ford just raised their price for the F-150 Lightning to the amount of the subsidy.

They're not the only company either.

It will be a fad that rich little bitches buy, off the backs of the poor and lower middle class. And I'm really looking forward to the rich bitches getting into fights with each other at the charging stations when it takes ages to charge them and there aren't enough stations.

Coal Burning Cars are not the future. At least not for another 20 or 30 years. And that's only if TPTB start building the infrastructure today. And that infrastructure is going to have to include a LOT of nuclear power plants. Because the solar and wind power isn't even helping the grids from browning out as it stands already. Renewable energy is a hobby.

I looked for where you got your ideas. $9.2 Trillion per year sounds like a lot of money to switch the whole world over to zero carbon emissions, but it costs $5.7 trillion per year to keep the 100% carbon emissions going.

A new analysis from McKinsey & Co. estimates that the investment, in new infrastructure and systems, needed to meet international climate goals could be $9.2 trillion a year annually through 2050. That comes to a grand total of $275 trillion worth of investments in energy assets and land-use systems ranging from agriculture to forestry. But if 6ix is the critical obstacle, the world burns to death.

On the basis of this scenario, we estimate that global spending on physical assets in the transition would amount to about $275 trillion between 2021 and 2050, or about 7.5 percent of GDP annually on average. The biggest increase as a share of GDP would be between 2026 and 2030. Demand would be substantially affected. For example, manufacturing of internal combustion engine cars would eventually cease as sales of alternatives (for example, battery-electric and fuel cell-electric vehicles) increase from 5 percent of new-car sales in 2020 to virtually 100 percent by 2050. Power demand in 2050 would be more than double what it is today, while production of hydrogen and biofuels would increase more than tenfold. The transition could lead to a reallocation of labor, with about 200 million direct and indirect jobs gained and 185 million lost by 2050—shifts that are notable less for their size than for their concentrated, uneven, and re-allocative nature.

Not to be overlooked, but McKinsey & Company estimates 6ixStringJack is an ignorant idiot. Download that special report on 6ix at https://www.mckinsey.com/business-functions/sustainability/our-insight

Hitler's Scuttled Black Sea Fleet, Centuries-Old 'Hunger Stones' Emerge From Dry Riverbeds In Drought-Stricken Europe

Sunday, Aug 21, 2022 - 11:35 AM

Extreme droughts across Europe are revealing thousands of years of lost history.

In some regions, centuries-old warning messages etched into boulders have been exposed. As StrangeSounds.org reports, these rocks - known as "Hungersteine" or "Hunger Stones"

One stone, embedded in the Elbe River, which runs from the mountains of Czechia through Germany to the North Sea, dates back to a drought in 1616, is once again visible in the dry riverbed.

The warning reads, "Wenn du mich seehst, dann weine" – "If you see me, weep."

"Hunger stones” like this one were used as “hydrological landmarks” across central Europe, NPR reported when the stones last surfaced during a 2018 drought.

In Spain, the Valdecanas reservoir has dried up and revealed a prehistoric stone circle dubbed the "Spanish Stonehenge," officially known as the Dolmen of Guadalperal, which has been covered by water since 1963...

Finally, and perhaps most dramatically, a Nazi fleet of 20 World War German warships re-surfaced as the water level in the River Danube in Serbia plunged to extreme lows...

The record-breaking heat wave that swept across Europe this year will become the "average" summer by 2035, even if all countries reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by as much as they have pledged to, according to an analysis published Thursday.

The analysis by the UK's Met Office Hadley Centre, commissioned by the country's Climate Crisis Advisory Group (CCAG), looked at how quickly temperatures are changing across the region using historical records of mean summer temperatures since 1850, and comparing them against model predictions.

"In the aftermath of the 2003 European heatwave, which is estimated to have killed over 70,000 people, I predicted that such temperatures, so exceptional at the time, would become the norm under continued emissions. That prediction has now been realized," said Peter Stott from the Met Office Hadley Centre. "The risks of extreme weather, including fires, drought and flash floods, will keep increasing rapidly unless emissions of greenhouse gases are reduced substantially."

"The data released by the Met Office today shows that, even if countries meet their commitments to reduce emissions they have made so far, the situation is still set to get worse, with weather in Europe predicted to become even more extreme than seen this summer," he said.

"This data doesn't fully account for the instability of the Arctic, which we now know is a global tipping point which that could have major cascading consequences for the entire planet."

Modelers are constantly being surprised by nature. Just a few years ago they were all agog about those big deep jet stream loops and slowing precession. Now it seems that we're seeing the jet stream has wandered so far north it's no longer dragging storms across the northern continents.

How Oil and Gas Fracking Billionaires Built a Climate Crisis–Denial Empire

It was the height of summer and Pastor Farris Wilks was warning that if we didn’t all stop sinning, God was going to scorch the Earth and melt the polar ice caps.

“We’re going to reap what we have sown, and what we have sown has not been good,” Wilks explained in his self-assured Texas drawl. “Think of all the murder that has happened in this country… all the babies that have been murdered… sexual perversion of all kinds.”

Wilks told his congregation in the small Texas town of Rising Star that the spike in global temperatures could be related to these sinful excesses. Maybe, he said, us “getting a little scorched here” was a message from God, and there was little if anything we could do about it.

“We didn’t create the Earth, so how could we ever save the Earth, or save all the animals even on the Earth, or save the polar caps?” Wilks said that day in July 2013, according to a recording obtained by the watchdog group Right Wing Watch. Ultimately, the fate of the planet was up to God alone: “If he wants the polar caps to remain in place, then he will leave them there.”

Wilks was no ordinary pastor. Along with his brother Dan Wilks, he was one of the U.S.’ newest billionaires. And their fortune came from an industry directly related to the planetary changes Wilks described in his sermon: fracking for oil and gas.

The previous year he and Dan had sold their fracking company Frac Tech for $3.5 billion and each pocketed $1.4 billion. They now intended to use their new fossil fuel fortune to shift the moral values of the entire country — and the right-wing influencers they enlisted for the cause went on to become some of the world’s biggest purveyors of climate disinformation.

The Wilkses didn’t just seed two of the most influential sites in right-wing media. They were also creating infrastructure capable of broadcasting messages denying or dismissing the climate emergency to millions of people. Outside experts now consider the Daily Wire and PragerU to be among the biggest and loudest sources of climate science misinformation on the planet.

They disagree. “Virtually all views that differ with the left are smeared and dismissed as ‘misinformation.’ We affirm that the Earth is warming, but we regard the view that global warming is ‘an existential threat’ to life on Earth as manipulative hysteria.”

The ability of Wilks-funded outlets to reach a mass audience with messages downplaying the seriousness of climate change is financially convenient for the brothers, who now back an oilfield services company called ProFrac that this month reported a strong quarter with more than $70 million in net income. Multiple attempts to reach the famously elusive Wilks for an interview through the company were unsuccessful.

Nearly 50 percent of Americans don’t believe humans cause climate change, a VICE News/Guardian poll found last fall. That’s due in part to the torrent of disinformation blasted at people by outlets like the Daily Wire, which “obfuscates the truth by overwhelming us with claims and questions designed in bad faith to confuse the debate so action is delayed,” the Center for Countering Digital Hate argues.

Meanwhile, companies linked to the Wilks brothers continue to cash in on the industry primarily responsible for causing the climate crisis.

"The masses" have, for the past 200 years, been led to believe in a new religion, which required them to tolerate the presence of oligarchs. The old religion (doing good on earth for reward in heaven) had to be eliminated first.

"Science" and Darwinism's "survival of the fittest" was one lever to eliminate religion. Misapplied as "social Darwinism" it did away with social restraint and justified individual greed. (I see this in a lot of your posts, SECOND.)

The other tennet was the "invisble hand". That promoted the idea that individual self-interested acquisition would lead to a more prosperous outcome for all. It somewhat contradicted "social Darwinism" bc it ingored the fact that some peope would be losers, but it bolstered the idea that all reward was based on the aquistion of goods and items.

These two ideas aren't believed explicitly by most people but they do lead to foundational aspects of consumerism and individualism

http s://youtu.be/eJ3RzGoQC4s

That left a number of people unfulfilled. Humans are mentally restless and easily bored. They used to tell eachother about the great hunt, orwhat was over that hill or beyond the horizon, or why there was thunder and lightning and what was beyond death. This brave new world, which concentrated on real world items, didn't fill this need, so the entertainent industry was born. And since humans are SOCIAL animals and acceptance is a real human need for most, social media was born.

HOWEVER, now that TPTB see that their ability to extract from one place (the colonies and new colony-like nations like the mideast, China, India and Africa) to enrich their home states (USA, Canada, and the EU) is coming to an end (bc of miitary and financial blowback and the inevitable development of previously underdeveloped nations) they now have to creates NEW religions, one that justifies lowering the living standards of "the people" in the name of a great cause or solving a great crisis..

That cause is sometimes "spreading freedom around the world" (sometimes known as R2P), or "climate change crisis" but is also called (by TPTB spox) "the great reset".

And people believe in these causes with a religious fervor bc they ARE new religions, one which requires sacrifice, bc another unfilfulled human need is to be part of a greater whole, since that counters the fear of death.

I notice, however, that TPTB aren't about to give up their steaks and private jets and yachts when they hobnob is places like Davos or go skiing in what little snow remains in the Alps.

Anyway, it's a shame that TPTB latch onto our better impulses and use actual problems to leverage themselves into positions of greater power bc people become cynical about everything and refuse to respond, even when it's a real problem and responding is in their favor. They (we) just need to figure out more legitimate responses.

This doesn't work with everybody, but it does work far too often for it to be good. The so-called 'leader' tells a crowd: “We are fighting for freedom, peace, and prosperity!” Also, "Climate Change is a Hoax, and keep burning coal, oil and natural gas" says 'leader' who just so happens to profit by climate change denial.

What is special about these 'leaders'? "By many they are considered as natural forces, as supernatural powers. They evoke grandiose and vague images in men's minds, but this very vagueness that wraps them in obscurity augments their mysterious power. They are the mysterious divinities hidden behind the tabernacle, which the devout only approach in fear and trembling." (Le Bon)

Climate change is real problem, but not using fertilizer for food crops is NOT the answer. Neither, BTW, is biodiesel (they burn down forests in Indonesia and Malaysia for palm oil, which is used to power diesel cars in the EU) or overfertilizing corn fields for fuel ethanol.

While he’s not exactly known for embracing science, U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert pondered the climate change conundrum during a hearing this week. Rather than reducing waste or cutting carbon emissions, the East Texas Republican proposed another, less conventional method: Why not just move the Earth altogether?

In a clip from the hearing, Gohmert stated that a NASA director had told him the Earth's and moon’s orbits are slightly shifting. Then, the congressman asked whether a U.S. land agency could alter those orbits to fight climate change.

“Is there anything that the National Forest Service or BLM [Bureau of Land Management] can do to change the course of the moon’s orbit or the Earth’s orbit around the sun?” Gohmert said, directing his question to an expert. “Obviously, that would have profound effects on our climate.”

Well, yeah. Obviously.

No Republican Congressman from Texas would vote for climate change legislation in a million years. Add 50 years to that makes 1,000,050 years. I guess if it happens it will be without the help of any Texas Republican, assuming Texas is still around in the year 1,002,072.

There is no future where a majority of Republican Congressmen from Texas would vote for any kind of climate change legislation. But if the word "Texas" is substituted for "China" in the following true news story then maybe one or two Republican Congressmen would vote for the legislation, but all the rest would vote against until the day they die in the heat or a hurricane or a flood.

Heatwave in China is the most severe ever recorded in the world

According to weather historian Maximiliano Herrera, who monitors extreme temperatures around the world, it is the most severe heatwave recorded anywhere.

“This combines the most extreme intensity with the most extreme length with an incredibly huge area all at the same time,” he says. “There is nothing in world climatic history which is even minimally comparable to what is happening in China.”

The flooding in Pakistan is a climate catastrophe with political roots

Flash floods over the weekend left one-third of Pakistan submerged from weeks of heavy rains.

The catastrophic flooding has affected 33 million people, about 15 percent of the population, according to Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority. More than 1,130 people have been killed since June’s monsoon season began.

“There was a super flood in 2010, but this is the worst ever in the history of Pakistan,” said Shabnam Baloch, the country director for Pakistan at the International Rescue Committee.

This calamity alone would have been disastrous. But Pakistan this year has also endured economic difficulties and a lethal heat wave that, as Vox’s Umair Irfan reported, strained public infrastructure and social services.

“Pakistan contributes less than 1 percent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions,” Farah Naureen, Mercy Corps’ country director for Pakistan, said in a statement. “This humanitarian catastrophe is yet another example of how countries that contribute the least to global warming are the ones that suffer the most.”

A better idea! Why not provide money to U.S. industry to remove CO2 from the air? That way the money stays in the U.S.A.! Indirectly, Iran and North Africa will benefit from better climate without any money being directly allocated to either.

The GOP has a NEW plan for climate change. The NEW plan calls for increasing domestic fossil fuel production and boosting exports of US natural gas. That plan increases, not decreases, the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere, so it won't actually stop climate change but it is different than the GOP's previous plan, which was "Climate Change is a Hoax!" New and improved slogan for the GOP: "CO2 is not a pollutant. It’s plant food. We want more, not less."

Signym, all of your Pakistani political chit-chat is irrelevant to DC. I'm pretty sure the only fact about Pakistan that makes it interesting in DC is 165 nuclear warheads. [1] It would be justice if Pakistan nuked the US because the US is flooding the world with CO2 and causing floods in Pakistan. [3]

If Pakistan simply threatened to nuke the US over CO2, that might be sufficient motivation for the Republicans in Congress to pay for taking CO2 out of the atmosphere, but probably the Republicans would prefer to nuke Pakistan as a cheaper solution. Remember, Trump said "Climate Change is a Chinese Hoax!" [2] It follows that Pakistan is unfairly blaming the US for climate change and floods. [3]

For one example, your notion of "hemorrhaging money into . . . N Korea" is false. The GOP refused to buy fuel oil for North Korea, so North Korea refused to shut down the reactors that make both electricity and plutonium for bombs:

Bill Clinton Once Struck a Nuclear Deal With North Korea
It was forged against all odds—but couldn’t survive the heat of Republican disapproval.

Bill Clinton’s agreement said that North Korea would shut down its main nuclear reactor in Yongbyon, abandon two others, and seal fuel that could potentially be used to create a nuclear weapon. In exchange, the U.S. would provide oil to make up for the fuel lost from the dismantled plants and would build two new “light fuel” plants from which it would be harder to extract nuclear materials. If North Korea did try to get fuel out of the new plants, it would be easy for nuclear watchdogs to identify—and hard to hide. In addition, the agreement promised that the U.S. would lift economic sanctions and its diplomatic freeze on North Korea and agree that it would not use nuclear weapons of its own on North Korea.

Then Republicans got control of Congress and made it clear that they would not agree to actually fund the implementation of the project or sanction formal peace agreements between the two countries.

https://www.history.com/news/north-korea-nuclear-deal-bill-clinton-agr
eed-framework

What happening since then in North Korea? It built A-bombs, H-bombs, ICBMs and, next:

May 13, 2022 - North Korea appears to have resumed construction at a long-dormant nuclear reactor in recent weeks that, if completed, would dramatically increase its capacity to produce plutonium for nuclear weapons.

https://www.cnn.com/2022/05/13/politics/north-korea-restarts-construct
ion-nuclear-reactor-satellite-images/index.html

To tie this all to Climate Change: In 1994 the GOP would not pay for fuel oil and the result was North Korea built H-bombs and ICBMs. In 2022 the GOP could have voted for paying to stop climate change, but did not. If the USA elite were REALLY worried about enemy - or even frenemy- nuclear warheads, we would be hemorrhaging money into Russia, China, N Korea, India and maybe even Iran (we;re already hemorrhaging money into Israel), and signing (and abiding with) every nuclear control treaty we could manage to wrangle out of every one of them.

The results from climate change might be far worse than H-bombs on ICBMs launched from N Korea and landing on Guam, a U.S. island territory in Micronesia, in the Western Pacific. . . .

Yep!

By claiming that we're REALLY paying Pakistan bc of nuclear weapons you torpedoed your own argument that we're paying Pakistan bc we're concerned about climate change. .

So to distract from your own stupid logical error you're dragging a smelly dead red herring of N Korea across the thread?

Heh heh

Anyone with two neurons to rub together will realize that you obliterate your own cause (whatever that is) with self-contradictory posts.

What IS your cause, anyway?

Aside from despising anyone who isn't as perfect as you claim?

I did NOT claim the USA is paying Pakistan because of nuclear weapons or climate change.

"Over the past decade, the United States, through USAID, has given Pakistan nearly $7.7 billion of funding." - https://www.usaid.gov/pakistan/history

USAID does not explain why Congress allocated money to Pakistan, probably because USAID doesn't know. Neither do I. What Congress's goals over the last 10 years are, I don't know, but it could NOT be to stop Pakistan from building the Bomb because Pakistan began development of nuclear weapons in January 1972 under Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. Congress's goal could NOT be about Climate Change because all the Republican Senators believe Climate Change is a Hoax.

Marvin Kalb, senior fellow with the Foreign Policy program at Brookings, thinks the "$7.7 billion of funding" over the last 10 years is to keep Pakistan from selling/loaning/giving/losing Pakistan's nukes to terrorists. See "The agonizing problem of Pakistan’s nukes"

Well bless my soul! You DIDN'T say that the USA was giving money to Pakistan for climate change. That's what I get for not reading your posts!

Do I have to have an opinion? No. But Marvin Kalb gets paid to have sophisticated opinions. Here is my simplified version of his complex ideas: Kalb, senior fellow with the Foreign Policy program at Brookings, thinks the "$7.7 billion of funding" from USAID over the last 10 years is to keep Pakistan from selling/loaning/giving/losing Pakistan's nukes to terrorists.

See "The agonizing problem of Pakistan’s nukes" by Marvin Kalb
https://www.brookings.edu/blog/order-from-chaos/2021/09/28/the-agonizi

/

There is an unwritten "understanding" that if terrorists get a nuke from Pakistan, Pakistan stops receiving money from USAID.

I will tell you a story about what appears to be my "CONTRADICTORY opinions".

Decades ago I wondered what was wrong with the US Army. Couldn't the generals and the Presidents see that killing South Vietnamese civilians would not win a war with North Vietnam? To avoid that understanding, the US Army big brains declared the harmless South Vietnamese civilians to be Viet Cong and kept right on killing them, using the stupidest and most violent tactics on civilians, guaranteeing the US will lose.

I also wondered what was wrong with the anti-war side. Protestors declared that war was immoral. (Some protestors were more subtle and correctly pointed out that it was JFK, LBJ and Nixon who were grotesquely immoral in their "secret" lives -- read any biography on those three or listen to the Watergate Tapes of goofy drunk Nixon -- and that the Vietnam War was a fiasco because of those Presidents' obvious in retrospect mental defects.) War is moral but only if executed with finesse and knowledge of who you are killing and precisely why. War as an engineering project is moral. JFK, LBJ and Nixon were definitely NOT engineers but just pure political beasts driven by crude instincts and fear. Absolutely unsurprising those Presidents screwed up.

Does this seem like CONTRADICTORY opinions when I am both anti-war (opposed to the US Army tactics) and anti-anti-war (opposed to protestors of the Vietnam War)? Think a little harder, Signym.

I was definitely of the opinion that the people who knew what they were doing were NOT Americans. Both sides in America looked like idiots who couldn't understand Vietnam or Communism or even how to fight a war without being an immoral monster. If both kinds of Americans are idiots, the best move for America was to withdraw from Vietnam. An even better move, impossible because most Americans are lazy, idiotic and cowardly, would have America invading North Vietnam, rather than bombing South Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, killing millions of civilians.

Unfortunately, the best moves are not possible when mediocre Americans (who psychologically can't be realistic/aware/cognizant about their own mediocrity) are making the decisions and executing the plan.

Shifting blame does not make sense, 6ix. The research by Rhodium Group says China emitted 27% of the world's greenhouse gases in 2019. The US was the second-largest emitter at 11% while India was third with 6.6% of emissions, the think tank said.

I told my Vietnam War story because it is connected to Global Warming. The connection runs through the addled brains of the Presidents of the United States and through the ferociously foolish brains of the PM of India and President of China.

In the Vietnam War, President Kennedy was asked if he approved "replacing" President Diem of Vietnam. Kennedy said okidoki, not absorbing the idea that he had approved an assassination. Kennedy should have pulled the troops out of Vietnam the next day because Kennedy was too stupid to be in that war. That could be stupidest thing a US President ever did as far as Vietnam, guaranteeing the USA would lose.

Another stupid thing a President has done was saying, "Global Warming is a Chinese Hoax." Whoever said that was too stupid to be in charge. In India and China the leaders have said similar stupid things to justify not handling global climate change. Their stupidity is guaranteeing the world will burn.

It's not shifting the blame. It's stating a fact. I'm not blaming China OR India. [SEE BELOW]

Big fucking deal. What REALLY matters here is how much of the combined world pollution is put into products and services that the destination country uses.

America tops that fucking list any way you fudge the numbers.

All of you cunts virtue tweeting about the environment from that shiny new "smart" phone you buy every year or two can go right on and get fucked. YOU are the problem.

But you don't even recognize that you are the problem because the air you breathe isn't so thick with pollution you can cut through it with a knife. You reap the benefits of all the overpriced disposable shit made on the cheap half a world away that you buy every day and don't need, and all you see is the shiny clean box it comes in without putting any thought into how much damage was done to the environment to make that and bring it to you. Nor do you give any fucking thought to how that magic electricity comes cleanly out of your wall outlets.

The same can be said about the coal burning cars that California is demonstrating for the world right now how they will NEVER work out unless massive infrastructure improvements including hundreds or maybe even thousands of nuclear plants will have to be constructed before they ever actually become adopted en masse.
