Are there 17 of them? It’s worth finding out. One technical detail about that vote that could be interesting: it's 2/3rds of seated senate members at the time of the vote. No doubt McConnell would have some control of that, but what if many Rep members don't want to go on record for that vote and stay away? I'll reach for anything at this point, including death by McDonalds.

One sentence in a speech telling them to do so by the president doesn't cut it. That alone is reason enough to impeach and then pursue further charges.

Quote:Originally posted by second: The Capitol Hill mob wanted to intimidate Congress. It’s working. After receiving death threats, Republicans say they’re afraid to vote to impeach. Tim Alberta, Politico’s chief political correspondent, writes, “I know for a fact several members *want* to impeach but fear casting that vote could get them or their families murdered. Numerous House Republicans have received death threats in the past week.” https://www.vox.com/2021/1/13/22229052/capitol-hill-riot-intimidate-legislators The Joss Whedon script for Serenity, where Wash lives, is Serenity-190pages.pdf at www.mediafire.com/folder/1uwh75oa407q8/Firefly

The demographic structure of our population is changing fast and isn’t racist friendly. The populism message will always appeal to the uneducated in our country, but with the white supremacist population in decline, that message will be less alluring in our election process. The up and coming republicans will distance themselves from the Trump era. T

Quote:Originally posted by SIGNYM: McConnell made some moves like he would support impeachment but must have gotten such backlash that he decided not to convene the Senate for impeachment hearings. Polling shows support for Trump holding steady, or rising, so impeaching Trump would be disaster for the GOP, and not too wise for Dems either So he saved the GOP's bacon, and even the Dem's too. But they play these kinds of games, proposing stuff that they hope will never happen, because it gives them the chance to spout off and make points with the base while not having to deal with the consequences.

McConnell had apparently never intended to approve any names from Biden. Lucky that the Democrats won the Senate runoff elections in Georgia or else McConnell would make sure nobody Biden wants will ever be confirmed for anything. https://www.wsj.com/articles/janet-yellen-senate-confirmation-hearing-for-treasury-secretary-set-for-jan-19-11610467975
