That quote needs a little background.

Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) argues in favor of the Republican-backed financial rescue bill on the Senate floor and denounced Democrats for blocking the coronavirus stimulus package.

Democrats are blocking because the GOP "rescue" bill has a $500 billion slush fund, with no strings attached, that Trump can give to whoever he pleases to promote his reelection. It is a very whimsical bill. No Democrat trusts Trump.

Why doesn't the GOP just force the bill through the Senate? Since five GOP senators are now in isolation because they’ve either been diagnosed with Covid-19 or exposed to someone who did, the party margins in the upper chamber has shifted to 48-47.

The change matters because it means that Republicans are in even greater need of Democratic support in order to pass what is shaping up to be a massive $1.8 trillion bill. To get through the Senate, the stimulus needs 60 votes. Previously, that meant convincing at least seven Democrats to back the legislation. Now, it means winning over at least 12.

Right now, Republicans don’t even have more conservative Democrats on board. Democrats were unified in their opposition to the bill on Sunday.

Keep that check out of the hands of people who need it long enough, and we'll see how quickly opinions shift.

Somebody asked me if I thought that Trump could just make an executive order if Democrats blocked it for long enough. I imagine that he probably could.

But there's no point in doing that right now. The optics for this look terrible for Democrats, and are only going to get worse if that money isn't in bank accounts on the 6th of next month. You and I know what's going on Second, because we know how to read. But that hardly matters.

Do you imagine that millions of Democrats who are counting on that money are going to give two shits about "good intentions" when they don't have a check in their hands that Republicans are trying to get to them?

All I've got to say to Nancy right now is good luck with that PR nightmare.

Maybe you should also remind voters of this fact: Democrats wanted guarantees that corporations who got money from a $500 billion pot would retain their workers, and objected to the fact that Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin would have broad discretion to parcel out $425 billion of the funds with little oversight. The CEOs could simply give themselves $500 billion in bonuses. Maybe the voters should know that?

It's not my job to educate people. Maybe you better start getting out the word. Or maybe you can just sit back and rely on Demented Joey Biden to do the legwork for you.

You can talk all you want about the Democrats having the upper hand here when it comes to votes, but if they prolong this and a vote still hasn't happened in time to get the checks out buy April 6th, Trump isn't going to have to say anything to demonize them. Millions of Democratic voters who don't have the cushy lifestyle you have in your ivory tower, and can't afford to pay for food with their moral superiority are going to be doing it for him, pitchforks in hand.

If Democrats don't do it soon, and Trump can indeed push an executive order through that results in hundreds of millions of Americans of all political beliefs getting money to tide them over during the crisis, your Democratic politicians are going to make a Savior out of Trump.

Money talks and bullshit walks.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Let's say that Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin parcels out $425 billion of the funds to CEOs. The CEOs kick back 10% to Trump for his reelection. In 2021 Trump can sign another bill parceling out even more money to CEOs as their reward for supporting him in 2020. No Democratic Senator is stupid enough to let Trump get away with that. If the voters cannot understand what Trump is doing, well, too bad for them, but Democratic Senators still aren't gonna fund Trump's reelection.

I'm not arguing with you, buddy.

But it's not me that Nancy Pelosi is going to have to answer to. The large majority of the people who are going to come for her with pitchforks are going to be Democratic voters on April 7th.

They aren't going to give two shits about any of that when they still don't have their money.

Give it a few weeks. Then we will know who is smarter. If Trump wins this one, and gets silly Democratic Senators to provide funding for Trump's reelection in the Coronavirus bill, then we know in April 2020 that Trump will win in November with a certainty of 100%.

There are two Coronavirus bills circulating. You can read both the D bill and the R bill here:
www.motherjones.com/coronavirus-updates/2020/03/nancy-pelosi-just-rele
ased-her-own-coronavirus-bill-it-is-much-bigger-than-trumps
/

6ix, you only win this contest if the R bill passes, which can't happen unless 12 Democratic Senators vote for it, but any Democrat would be stupid to vote for it.

The D bill is $2.5 trillion versus $1.8 trillion for the R bill, which spends $0.5 trillion for Trump's reelection. If voters are smart, they will prefer the $2.5 trillion bill because there is more money and all of it goes to voters, none to Trump or CEOs.

Which is a better deal: the D bill gives you a $2,500 check? Or the R bill gives you a $1,300 check and Trump gets $500?

That quote of the day called Democratic Senators stupid because NOT ONE OF THEM would give Trump $500 billion to spend on his reelection. The Democratic Senators came back with a counter-offer: YOU GET NOTHING, TRUMP, and our bill gives the voters $2.5 trillion which is more than the GOP's $1.3 trillion.

The one page summary of the Democrats' bill as a counter-offer:

https://twitter.com/sahilkapur/status/1242260156450291713

The Take Responsibility for Workers & Families Act

House Democrats' more than $2.5 trillion bill boldly addresses the impacts of the coronavirus crisis on families, businesses, and communities by rebuilding our health care system to test and treat everyone and tightening the safety net to support families, shore up small businesses, and help governments maintain services

Making health care affordable and accessible - Eliminates cost-sharing for coronavirus treatments and vaccines for all patients, including the uninsured. To further ensure affordable health care, the legislation increases subsidies on the individual market, provides a new Open Enrollment period, protects access to health insurance for furloughed and newly unemployed workers, and provides new incentives for states to expand Medicaid.

Bolstering the health care system - Provides more than $150 billion to support America’s hospitals, Community Health Centers, and government medical programs as they treat coronavirus patients. To further support providers, the legislation offers an additional $80 billion in low-interest loans to hospitals, suspends the Medicare sequester, and takes other important actions to pump funding into the health care system.

Protecting frontline response workers - Requires health care facilities implement clear infectious disease protocols and provide necessary protective equipment to keep frontline health care workers safe. The legislation also provides child care assistance to health care workers and emergency personnel.

Putting money in the pockets of individuals and families - Provides Americans with a direct cash infusion: $1,500 of immediate assistance per individual, up to $7,500 for a family of five. This benefit would be available to anyone with an individual taxpayer identification number, as well as to our nation’s retirees and unemployed individuals.

Enhancing unemployment compensation — Creates a temporary Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation of $600 a week for any worker affected by COVID-19 and eligible for unemployment compensation benefits. Combined with existing benefits, this replaces 100 percent of wages for the average worker. The legislation also expands eligibility to self-employed workers, individuals whose contracts were cancelled, and new entrants to the job market.

Expanding paid leave and family medical leave - Builds on the Families First Coronavirus Response Act by expanding paid sick days and family medical leave to ensure nearly every worker has access to these crucial benefits.

Ensuring food security - Expands and funds additional Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programs benefits, helping to ensure that families will be able to afford to eat during the coronavirus pandemic.

Supporting small businesses - Streamlines aid for small businesses and provides more than $500 billion in grants and interest-free loans, some with forgivable components, to help Main Street businesses as they cope with the economic disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Assisting states and local governments - Stabilizes the finances of states and local governments with $200 billion in stabilization funding for states and $15 billion to local governments through the Community Development Block Grant program, allowing them to maintain public services even as revenue falls because of the pandemic. The legislation also authorizes the Federal Reserve to purchase state and local government bonds intended to fight the Coronavirus outbreak.

Standing with America’s students - Pumps nearly $60 billion into schools and universities, with $50 billion directly provided to states to help them stabilize their funding for schools and nearly $10 billion to help alleviate the harm caused by coronavirus on higher education institutions, while providing them with added flexibility to continuing operating dur ing the crisis. The legislation also helps current borrowers with their student debt burden.

Upholding our Constitutional imperatives - Ensures that states can carry out this year’s election with $4 billion in grant funding for states through the Election Assistance Commission and a national requirement for both 15 days of early voting and no-excuse absentee vote-by-mail, including mailing a ballot to all registered voters in an emergency.

IF DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSMEN GIVE TRUMP A $500 BILLION SLUSH FUND IN APRIL, THEY WILL LOSE EVERY ELECTION THAT CAN BE PURCHASED IN NOVEMBER.

Trump is already going to win in November. Despite everything that's happened so far it's barely put a dent in his polling.

Quit trying to peddle extremely lefty biased 1 page summaries of 1,400+ page documents that even the people voting on them never read as what either bill actually is.

This ain't a book report.

By all means though, hold that money up for another two weeks, Stretch. Maybe you can keep it from being passed long enough that nobody is left to vote on it before you're all quarantined. See how quickly you become the most hated person in America. I'll bet isolation is going to feel extremely isolation-ey when they hate you so much that Democrats start voting for Trump in November.

You realize you have just summed up the Trump strategy, right? Put out a bill that favors Corporations and Trump/Republicans and dare the Dems to oppose it. If they do Trump/Fox will say they are the villians and if they don't they will help Trump/The Rich/Republicans.

So not about helping people who are pretty close to being out of money right about now.

Oh... the people will get their money.

They'll be begging Trump to sign an executive order in two weeks if they haven't gotten it.

If you read all of my posts on this subject, you'll find that I don't disagree with the sticking points the Democrats have (that we're being told of).

Nobody knows what is in those bills. Nobody. Not even the people voting on them. They're 1,400 pages of legalise each.

Maybe with all the free time everybody has now, it would behoove them to make a collective effort to weed out all the terrible shit that is put in their from both sides.

Will they, since Trump would have to pay for "an executive order" out of his own pocket? Or will they be begging Trump to sign the Democrats' Coronavirus bill paid by the Treasury?

The New Democratic Stimulus Bill Gives Unemployed Workers an Extra $600 Per Week. That’s Huge.

What this means is that a lot of low-wage workers will end up getting more money through unemployment than they previously were earning on the job. Perhaps not coincidentally, $600 a week is what you would earn working 40 hours a week at $15 per hour (pretax).

The economic aid package that Senate Democrats are currently negotiating with the White House includes a significant expansion of unemployment benefits for Americans who have lost jobs or been furloughed due to the coronavirus crisis. But it’s not quite what Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has described publicly. Depending on who you are, it might actually be a better deal.

In remarks on the Senate floor, Schumer said his negotiations with Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin had reached the “two-yard line,” and included “unemployment insurance on steroids,” in which the “the federal government will pay your salary, your full salary for now four months.”

Why ever go back to work again!

Seriously. Why should I be happy about a bill being passed that would pay everyone nearly double the money not to work than I made busting my ass?

You'll end up with millions of poor schmucks forced to continue working "essential jobs" on the lowest rungs at places like Walmart, risking daily exposure to a virus that everyone else is being told that they can't even leave their homes because of by law to sit the fuck around and do nothing while they get paid more than most of those essential workers do? Two quotes of the day:

1) “If there’s one thing I know about human nature, it’s that your stupidity is only eclipsed by your laziness.” - Maeve the A.I. from Westworld
https://tvshowtranscripts.ourboard.org/viewtopic.php?f=738&t=37400

2) In “Natural Born Killers,” a psychiatrist, played with diligent dryness by the comedian Steven Wright, gets interviewed on television about Mickey and Mallory, and his analysis is as follows: “Mickey and Mallory know the difference between right and wrong. They just don’t give a damn.”

That, to me, is one of the most resonant lines in all of movies, because what it’s describing now sounds chillingly close to too many of us. Sure, we all say that we care. But if you look at the actions, the judgments, the policies supported by millions of Americans, it seems increasingly clear that we’re turning into a society of people who know the difference between right and wrong, but just don’t give a damn.

It's easy to care when you're loaded.

Case in point:

"Gag me with a spoon", I believe would have been the response to this insane level of cringe if you lived in California and this was the mid-80's.

I think you're losing it. Seriously, of all the things to care about this video sure as f*ck ain't it.

How about digging out one of your favorite sci fi books, maybe one you haven't read yet but have always been meaning to, and start reading it....?

Two more quotes of the day:

“People get tremendous anxiety and depression, and you have suicides over things like this when you have terrible economies. You have death. Probably and — I mean, definitely — would be in far greater numbers than the numbers that we’re talking about with regard to the virus. You’re going to have suicides by the thousands," President Trump said this week. The president has said he would like to put people back to work by Easter.

“There really is no middle ground, and it’s very tough to say to people, ‘Hey, keep going to restaurants, go buy new houses, and ignore that pile of bodies over in the corner. We want you to keep spending because there’s maybe a politician who thinks GDP growth is all that counts.” - Bill Gates.

OPPS.

Fun Fact: Even before COVID was a thing, 800,000 people per year die by their own hand. 4 times the amount of the worst-case COVID projections.

https://ourworldindata.org/suicide

I'll get no enjoyment out of saying I Told You So on this one if the restrictions aren't lifted and people can't get back to work soon.

I also suspect that murders will be abnormally high in America this year as well. Most murders are somebody you know, and many of them family members. We've got a lot of family locked up together right now, and quite a few of them are acting fairly panicky... This has only just begun.

That 800,000 is for the entire world, not the USA, which your link says is only 48,800.

Quote of the day:

“The US response will be studied for generations as a textbook example of a disastrous, failed effort,” Ron Klain, who spearheaded the fight against Ebola in 2014, told a Georgetown university panel recently. “What’s happened in Washington has been a fiasco of incredible proportions.”

I didn't make any specifications. Sure.

But if we're going to be specific about it, there's a pretty good chance that the US number of suicides will drastically increase this year and keep up pace with the worst case COVID numbers. Most of those, roughly 80% of them, will be unemployed men.

And don't forget the murders too. There will be a lot more of those if lockdown persists for an inordinate amount of time. Especially if they start pulling you over in your car asking you what your business away from home is.

Another quote of the day:

“We are witnessing in the United States one of the greatest failures of basic governance and basic leadership in modern times.” The White House had all the information it needed by the end of January to act decisively. Instead, Trump repeatedly played down the severity of the threat, blaming China for what he called the “Chinese virus” and insisting falsely that his partial travel bans on China and Europe were all it would take to contain the crisis.

6ix, maybe Trump will say murders outnumber Covid-19 deaths, so vote for me. Who knows when in the campaign he will say it, but he's that kind of guy!

Proving that if approving Americans have crappy lives it is because they can't recognize a crook and a conman. How will they be able to recognize a local and small potatoes conman that does not have such a well documented record as Trump? They can't and that is why they get conned locally, beside being conned nationally.

Another quote of the day:

“We have the FDA bowing to political pressure and making decisions completely counter to modern science.” Snake oil salesman Trump has personally pushed the malaria drug chloroquine for coronavirus, the unproven remedy, on a whim. It smacked of the wave of anti-science sentiment sweeping federal agencies under this presidency.

Sunday, the president said that 100,000 deaths would be a great win. Only in the world of Trumpian dumbfuckery could anyone brighter than a toaster oven think 100,000 avoidable deaths is a win. That’s like saying, “Hey, honey, I went to the strip club, caught an STD, knocked up a stripper named Destynee, and got a second mortgage to bail her meth tweaker boyfriend out of jail… but at least I didn’t touch the kids’ college fund.”

Trump’s gone from saying that the pandemic was contained to arguing that 200,000 deaths would be a success.

Like a virus, Trump adapts. He is now setting the goal posts at 100-200K dead as a good job. That is 2-4 times the US deaths in the Vietnam War. He's shifting his stance to set the stage for claiming 200,000 American deaths as a victory--so he can run for reelection as the great #coronavirus hero who saved the lives of millions.

True second. Since I've known Jack, after he stopped drinking and became a bit more focused anyway, he has been trolling most of what's posted that's been reported on. I post what is happening as reported and he follows me around the different threads disputing everything I post, claiming it all bullshit.

Because he believes the media is mostly lying, he disputes all the facts they present us. If you reject all facts claiming them false, then you surly exist in a delusional reality. As do most Trump supporters. And he just can't see it.

I don't care to hear what he thinks. I don't want him responding to my posts because he is just trolling. It never ceases to amaze me how guys like Jack are led around by the nose by cons, liars and cheats. And there are so many Jack and Jills out there. I have to admit that surprised me. I get the racists supporting Trump, but so many believe his con. That stagers me. I know most of Trumps followers represent the uneducated, but their lack of common sense and critical thinking skills is astounding. The evidence of that is Trumps telling more than 15 thousand lies now. And they always believe him. That's the very definition of stupid.

That's the point isn't it? Jacks stupid, and he follows us all around being stupid. I can do without it.

Sullivan said Indiana's 211 hotline went from receiving roughly 1,000 calls a day regarding mental health -- including suicidal ideation -- to 25,000 calls a day. And calls to Indiana's addiction hotlines went from an average of 20 a week to 20 a day.

"For those with substance use disorder, this can be an especially scary time," Sullivan said. "They say that the opposite of addiction is not sobriety, but connection. And it's very easy to be disconnected right now."

Hirt noted the extra challenges people are facing, like unemployment and homeschooling, and being confined to one home with family members for long periods of time.

"So we know that that's going to get people irritated and aggravated," he said. "And one of the things we know alcohol does is it loosens inhibitions."

Hirt said his biggest fear, particularly in homes that have weapons, is people combining alcohol with those frustrations and harming others.

But what do I know. I'm just an uneducated dummy.

And I wouldn't count yourself as "safe" if you're stuck in isolation in a gun-free home either. Knives do the trick just as well. Short of that, pencils, pillows, and any number of things that everybody already has in their homes. No need to turn this into an opportunistic story for anti-gun Democrats.

Tick Tock to a much larger problem that hardly anybody is talking about...

I extended the offer to my old man to bring my brother back to my place and he could stay here for a few weeks to a month the next time he went down to visit and stock up on supplies. Everybody seemed on board a few days ago, but now they're so scared it's not happening. It's as if I'm talking to pod people versions of the people I was talking to a few days ago.

At this point it seems pretty amazing they're even letting my dad step foot in the complex. Their fear now is both the possibility that either of our states shut down travel between states before he goes back, or even the possibility that they wouldn't let him back into his own place after being gone so long... and honestly, judging by the overreactions happening all over I think those worries are both valid.

But here's the thing...

Whatever inner demons I let out while I was drinking were mere child's play compared to my brother's when he hit his rock bottom. It's a freakin' miracle that my old man was able to turn his life around and give him a place to recover before getting him on disability. It took years of sacrifice on his part to make that happen. He almost lost his marriage because of it. He's come so far now, but being social is something that he really needs in his life. You can tell by talking with him on the phone now that he's not doing very good. Not only is the church, all social activities and the stuff he volunteered for all shut down without any clue as to when any of it will return, but he doesn't even have any family that lives within 250 miles of him.

Having him up by me could have done him a lot of good, and honestly, I think it would have done me some as well.

I think the negative possible outcomes for millions of Americans right now goes far beyond any possible physical illness and potential economic stress and isn't even really being discussed.

The longer this goes on, the more potential for disaster there is. Potentially Millions of little disasters and tragedies.

Do Right, Be Right. :)
