Rethugs start ADMITTING Trump SHOULD BE IMPEACHED,blah blah blah .... That's exactly opposite of what he said, and only someone who lives in loony-land would try to twist what someone CLEARLY said into its exact opposite ... and then try and convince everyone else to agree with that cracked perception. We DO have a law governing impeachment, SECOND, and that law does not allow Presidents to be impeached for the equivalent of spitting on the sidewalk. Lamar believes that he is following that law.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.
Quote:I can see why GOP Senators would not vote for Trump's death, since it means the Senator's death with voters back home.

Quote:Trump obviously was impeached ...
Quote:If it was illegal, Mitch McConnell would NOT have called the Senate into session to listen to the House prosecutors' impeachment charges.
Quote: The House of Representatives can NOT force the Senate to illegally hold a trial for Trump.
Quote: The only legal question is what will be Trump's punishment.
Quote: The only punishment the Constitution allows is the death penalty for Trump -- removal from office. The Senate cannot fine Trump. They cannot jail him. They cannot take away his airplane. They can't even make him work at least 40 hours per week as a punishment.
Quote: It is either death or nothing for Trump. I can see why GOP Senators would not vote for Trump's death, since it means the Senator's death with voters back home.

Quote:Originally posted by 1KIKI: Quote:I can see why GOP Senators would not vote for Trump's death, since it means the Senator's death with voters back home. So, if the majority of Senators don't want to be voted out of office for removing Trump --- that means the majority of people in the majority of states are going to reelect Trump?
Sunday, February 2, 2020 9:42 AM
Quote:No. GOP Senators won't vote for Trump's death, his removal from office, because all GOP voters would be deeply angry at the Senator for killing Trump for a minor infraction. GOP Senators also don't want non-GOP voters, the addle-brained "Independent" voter, from being deeply angry at the Senator for refusing to even think that Trump committed a crime. So what is a GOP Senator to do to please both GOP voters and Independents? Vote to acquit, but also obfuscate about Trump's crime to keep the Independents more or less convinced their Senator might have voted to execute Trump if the crime had been a little more serious.

So, Americans blindly follow what their Senators tell them, despite the conviction of Trump by the media years ago. Got it.

Quote:Originally posted by second: President Donald Trump and his Republican allies focused on exacting payback against his political opponents Thursday after his acquittal in his Senate impeachment trial, signaling that the conflict that has consumed Washington for months may only escalate rather than recede.
Quote:Choosing retaliation over reconciliation, Trump lashed out at Democrats and the one Republican senator who voted for conviction.
Quote:He turned a prayer breakfast into a launching pad for political attacks and then staged a long, rambling venting session at the White House where he denounced “evil” and “crooked” lawmakers and the “top scum” at the FBI for trying to take him down. Trump’s team indicated that his desire to turn the tables on his foes may go beyond just tough language. The White House press secretary declared that Democrats “should pay for” impeaching the president, and the Trump administration worked to facilitate a Senate Republican investigation of Hunter Biden, son of former Vice President Joe Biden, the goal of Trump that was at the heart of his impeachment. “It was evil,” Trump said of the investigations that led to his Senate trial in an hourlong stream-of-consciousness address to supporters in the East Room of the White House, tossing aside the more calibrated text prepared by his staff. Trump’s vituperative performance Thursday was the diametrical opposite of how President Bill Clinton responded to his own acquittal after a Senate impeachment trial in 1999. On the day he was cleared of charges of perjury and obstruction of justice, Clinton appeared alone in the Rose Garden, said he was “profoundly sorry” and called for “reconciliation and renewal.”

But his twin brother was also fired, even though he had nothing to do with the Ukraine affair. And Gordon Sondland is gone too, for refusing to perjure himself to save Trump’s bacon. But Trump himself wouldn’t understand why anyone is upset about this. He can hardly be expected to trust people who betrayed him. Right? And when Vindman was let go, his brother would probably harbor a grudge too. He had to make a clean sweep. And here’s the key to all this: many of the kind of people who voted for Trump agree completely. Firing these people isn’t outrageous, it’s just common sense. To Trump’s base, this is the way any strong leader acts. I think it’s outrageous. They think it's nuts to be any other way. It is clear from thousands of lawsuits, Trump screws over people all the time. His base also can be screwed once he doesn't need them. Say, after his final election. Quote: Would YOU want someone that weasely and biased to be working "for" (against) you? Let's say you had someone who was stealing from you, or claiming hours worked that they didn't, or mishandling your tools or your property, and lying about it. Or worse, they hated your politics and prepared your taxes with a little bomb hidden in those papers. Or spread malicious rumors about you to the local sheriff, and he was constantly on your property "checking up" on things. Would you continue to give them a paycheck?
