In a special report, MSNBC Chief Legal Correspondent, Ari Melber, examines how despite claims that the Russia probe is a “witch-hunt”, Bob Mueller has proven to be one of the fastest and most effective Special Counsels in U.S. history, racking up indictments at the fastest pace since Watergate. Melber runs through the numerous achievements in the Russia probe, noting that “it’s a lot” and demonstrates how despite Trump’s relatively short period in office, the Mueller probe has seen “the highest rate of indictments for his aides than any President ever”

A 52 percent majority say they have little or no trust in the president's denials that his 2016 campaign colluded with Moscow in the election that put him in the Oval Office. That number does reflect an improvement from previous polls. One year ago, 57 percent had little or no trust in his denials; in December, 59 percent did. What happened in the last four months that would make 7 percent more people trust Trump? The government shutdown for 35 days? Trump leaving Hanoi with a worse deal than when he arrived? Trump ramping up the denials?

Half of Americans believe Mueller’s probe is a ‘witch hunt’. Trump told them it was a witch hunt and they believed. When a New Yorker sells the Brooklyn Bridge, he doesn’t have to sell it to every tourist he speaks with. But if half of them buy, he is either an extremely gifted crook or the average tourist is extremely gullible. You know? That gullibility explains why America never gets out of trouble; there is always another con-game available for suckers to lose their money in.

I find it extremely odd that those who condemn prosecutor Mueller as a "witch hunter" are getting their ideas about him from Trump, the guy being investigated. It is as if those who repeat Trump's "witch hunt" cry never understood how a prosecutor looks into possible criminal behavior to see if there is anything worth bringing to a Grand Jury. An awful lot of Trump's people have gone to jail for tax cheating. Trump's history sure does suggest Trump has done the same.

I was calling it a witch hunt before Trump even realized that it was.

In March of 2019 it pretty much goes without saying.

When Bill Clinton was in trouble for Monica Lewinsky, I would have been happy to see Bill resign because he was a lying sack of shit with his "I did not have sexual relations with that woman." Resigning works well because V.P. Al Gore could have stepped in and kept the government open. Trump has his very own "I did not have sexual relations with that woman" every week and he actually shut down the government because he is loony. Trump needs to leave and let V.P. Mike Pence run the White House.

Are all Trolls as stubbornly stupid as you? Are you so illiterate that you cannot comprehend the very basic meaning of Witch Hunt?
Witch Hunt for "collusion" which is not even a crime. By your own admission, "Tax cheating" is the low-hanging fruit of their Witch Hunt. "Collusion" vs "Tax cheating"
Which part of Witch Hunt do you not comprehend? All reasonable people can understand the concept of Witch Hunt, and we find it extremely odd that you are too insipid to follow the bouncy ball.

Witches don't exist, so hunting them and burning them is murder. Tax cheaters do exist. Hunting and burning them is not murder. There is plenty of indication for a prosecutor that Trump has cheated on his taxes:

There is indication that Trump laundered money for Russians, another crime for which Trump could be burned:

Trump could exonerate himself by April 15th, Tax Filing Day, if he would make his old tax returns available. Since V.P. Mike Pence publicized his tax returns, we know Pence is clean. Only if Trump cheated on his taxes would his tax returns cause him trouble. Trump has two possibilities: end the Witch Hunt with his complete exoneration by revealing his tax returns or complete annihilation by revealing his tax returns, depending on what is in his returns. Since his tax returns remain secret, Trump must believe annihilation is the more likely possibility.

Road to Mueller report paved by Watergate, Iran-Contra, Lewinsky, Waco

The release of the findings by previous investigators analogous to Mueller has sometimes been handled with voluminous reports and other times with no reports or with key elements kept under wraps for months and even years.

Here is an explanation of some past investigations and how their findings were made public.

Any attempt to impeach won't get past the senate, and everyone knows that. They're as corrupt as Trump is, and they're covering for their own Russian ties, too.

As more and more people suffer the consequences of the wholesale robbery going on now, even the deep cultists might become aware of what's really going on and wake up from their stupor.

Once Trump is out, either by vote or impeachment, SDNY is going to want to talk to him. He'll pay the piper. It's just a matter of when.

In 2015 half of Republicans still believed WMDs were found in Iraq. They believe, maybe place their faith in expresses it better, many things that don't work out. Sometimes their beliefs hurt them. That's not been my problem. Since Vietnam I am a non-believer. In the last 45 years I have had no faith and that works excellent for me, although I have been told by Republicans that God will punish me after death for not going to church. I don't believe that, either, but I don't tell them when I fire those sanctimonious lame-brains. My business functions better without them. I'm uncertain why. They try so hard, but once they're gone, things go so much smoother that I think Republicans subtract value from all that they touch. It must be something corrosive in their oily fingerprints or they are breathing out germs that make them blockheads and everyone sick of them.

To decent Romans, Christianity was a weird and possibly sorcerous cult practiced by rednecks and illiterates — until suddenly it was the force behind the empire. The Mormons were unwelcome freaks who believed in seer stones, indigenous American Israelites, and polygamy. Now they’re the face of clean-cut American success west of the Rockies.

Belief in aliens and Trump could be America’s next religion. ‘American Cosmic’ explores how the once-fringe phenomenon has taken root among the powerful.

I can believe this is true: Donald Trump is at a crossroads, with a difficult choice in front of him. Yes, that sounds kind of ridiculous, given that the man has skirted accountability for his entire life. Why should this time be any different?

The challenge for him is that, this time, the stage is bigger, the forces of justice stronger and more determined, his enemies powerful, and the exposure of his probable crimes far greater than when he was scamming real estate investors and threatening Manhattan tabloids.

With Democrats in control of the House and investigations closing in from all sides, Trump’s political survival and, quite possibly, his personal freedom depends on the loyalty of Senate Republicans. For their part, Senate Republicans have no further chance of passing legislation until at least 2020, and Mike Pence is just as capable of nominating judges as Trump is. Their only loyalty to Trump, therefore, is predicated on their fear of Trump’s control of the GOP base.

But the mob is a fickle thing, especially it remains almost entirely controlled by Fox News and other right-wing media outlets. If Rupert Murdoch, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, and so on collectively decide that Trump is too damaged by whatever comes of the Mueller report and other criminal inquiries to survive, they can easily turn Trump’s base against him.

Trump knows this at some level. He can also see that at least some Republicans in the Senate are growing increasingly rebellious, having rejected both his border emergency gambit and his support for the Saudi war in Yemen. After the Mueller report comes out, it is difficult to imagine even McConnell’s squad of cynical GOP senators staying fully united behind Trump.

So, as defections begin to mount, will Trump choose to try to intimidate his Senate allies with fear of reprisals? Or will he be conciliatory and try to cooperate with them on their priorities in exchange for their loyalty?

So far, the answer appears to be the former. That’s in keeping with the hard-nosed negotiating strategy Trump has used his entire life. He tried and failed to cajole senators for the emergency declaration, and Saturday’s odious tweet attacking the late Senator John McCain over the Steele dossier can only be read as a threat against current senators who cross him over the report.

Trump may survive all this. He may even win re-election. But even so, chances are slim that his usual tactics of intimidation will carry the day. He needs allies in the Senate, and attempting to browbeat them into submission may prove his final undoing.

But that’s his choice to make.

You didn't describe that religion. Didn't name it, either. Are you presuming I worship the Democratic Party? I vote for Democrats because there are only two effective choices. The elections I vote in have zero third party politicians holding office. My choice is either D or R or I for Irrelevant. I'm going with D. I've seen what R does. Mueller sought Michael Cohen’s emails months before FBI raid, warrants show

Special counsel Robert S. Mueller III obtained court-approved warrants to search the emails of President Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen in July 2017 as his office investigated whether Cohen had illegally worked for foreign entities, according to newly unsealed documents illustrating how the investigation moved quickly and quietly to scour the digital trails of the president’s associates.

Trump and Deutsche Bank were deeply entwined, their symbiotic bond born of necessity and ambition on both sides: a real estate mogul made toxic by polarizing rhetoric and a pattern of defaults, and a bank with intractable financial problems and a history of misconduct.

The relationship had paid off. Mr. Trump used loans from Deutsche Bank to finance skyscrapers and other high-end properties, and repeatedly cited his relationship with the bank to deflect political attacks on his business acumen. Deutsche Bank used Mr. Trump’s projects to build its investment-banking business, reaped fees from the assets he put in its custody and leveraged his celebrity to lure clients.

Then Mr. Trump won the 2016 election, and the German bank shifted into damage-control mode, bracing for an onslaught of public scrutiny, according to several people involved in the internal response. Next month, Deutsche Bank is likely to start handing over extensive internal documents and communications about Mr. Trump to the congressional committees, according to people briefed on the process.

In the weeks before his swearing-in, the bank commissioned reports to figure out how it had gotten in so deep with Mr. Trump. It issued an unusual edict to its Wall Street employees: Do not publicly utter the word “Trump.”

More than two years later, Mr. Trump’s financial ties with Deutsche Bank are the subject of investigations by two congressional committees and the New York attorney general. Investigators hope to use Deutsche Bank as a window into Mr. Trump’s personal and business finances. Kerrie McHugh, a Deutsche Bank spokeswoman, said: “We remain committed to cooperating with authorized investigations.”

Deutsche Bank officials have quietly argued to regulators, lawmakers and journalists that Mr. Trump was not a priority for the bank or its senior leaders and that the lending was the work of a single, obscure division. But interviews with more than 20 current and former Deutsche Bank executives and board members, most of them with direct knowledge of the Trump relationship, contradict the bank’s narrative.

Over nearly two decades, Deutsche Bank’s leaders repeatedly saw red flags surrounding Mr. Trump. There was a disastrous bond sale, a promised loan that relied on a banker’s forged signature, wild exaggerations of Mr. Trump’s wealth, even a claim of an act of God.

But Deutsche Bank had a ravenous appetite for risk and limited concern about its clients’ reputations. Time after time, with the support of two different chief executives, the bank handed money — a total of well over $2 billion — to a man whom nearly all other banks had deemed untouchable.

More at www.nytimes.com/2019/03/18/business/trump-deutsche-bank.html about why Deutsche Bank stopped loaning to Trump. Short version: he lied, then broke promises for his short-term advantage, then he defaulted and counter-sued the Bank.

Melber runs through the numerous achievements in the Russia probe and how despite Trump’s relatively short period in office, the Mueller probe has seen “the highest rate of indictments for his aides than any president ever.” Former Chief of Staff to Bob Mueller, John Carlin, tells Ari Melber “we should be proud as Americans, but also alarmed at what he’s been able to show us has occurred.”

Watergate had more indictments because Republicans working for Nixon believed the Vietnam War had to be won at whatever cost, no matter how high, and the Democrat running against Nixon, George McGovern, would have stopped the war immediately, without a victory. Nixon's people had to stop McGovern with any dirty trick they could think of. But winning the election did not win in Vietnam -- that war was already lost before voters gave Nixon a landslide victory of 520 Electoral votes to 17 for McGovern. The vast majority of voters understood nothing about the war or Nixon.

White House Counsel Pat Cipollone has argued in past letters to House investigators that their requests exceed the Constitutional limits on Congress’ oversight authority. Presidents can assert executive privilege to shield certain confidential communications from compelled disclosure so advisers can feel comfortable delivering candid advice on potentially explosive issues.

Congressional and Justice Department investigators can take subpoenas and document requests to the D.C. Circuit Court to compel disclosure, if they believe such conversations and documents are in the public interest.

Perhaps the oversight Committee is unable to make a compelling argument before a judge.

Oh, btw, not one mention of Trump 'colluding' with Russia to throw the 2016 election.

Maria Butina’s Legal Bills Are Being Paid by a Russian Who Has Supported Texas Independence

"Accused Russian spy Maria Butina is currently awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to conspiracy against the United States in December of last year. Efforts to end the legal saga have stalled as the government keeps requesting delays–without telling the defense why–which have likely kept Butina in detention longer than the sum total of her eventual sentence is even likely to be. All the while, some of Butina’s legal bills have been paid by a man who runs a non-governmental organization (NGO) with alleged ties to the Kremlin.

According to The Atlantic‘s Natasha Bertrand, 30-year-old Russian lobbyist Alexander Ionov has been fundraising on Butina’s behalf by way of a fundraising website hawking “The Maria Butina Legal Expense Fund”–based in Virginia–since sometime in 2018.

The website offers a sympathetic and dramatic retelling of Butina’s fall from grace as a Republican Party and National Rifle Association (NRA) influencer."

She also employs a PR firm and has an agent.

Is this a great country or what?

She needs to thank Trump and the Republicans for that.

And sure, it's all politics. But that's the way this democracy runs. Personally, I wish we had a parliamentary system, without the added bonus - I mean boondoggle - of also having a president. I believe it keeps the PM and ruling party or coalition more accountable, since they can be voted out any time. But, we have what we have. So unless you're talking - what - revolution? assassination? extra-judicial justice for 'traitors'? roaming the streets in gangs to beat up the wrong sorts of people? - we'll both have to be content to watch the workings plod along. So we both of us will see. If waiting and seeing makes me a troll, I guess that makes you a troll too.

eta: As an aside, I'm intensely curious to see what's in the Mueller report. I'm glad the House symbolically voted unanimously to release it, and Trump's indicated he's OK with releasing it as well. I sure do hope that's what happens.

If Mueller proved Trump took a billion dollar bribe from Putin, the Republican Senators would convince themselves that it was a "business loan". If Mueller had a wire-tape of Trump asking Putin to steal the election, the Senators would convince themselves that Trump said "steel", with "ee", not "ea". There will never be evidence that can't be explained as completely innocent, that only looks bad but isn't, as far as 90% of GOP Senators and Trump voters are concerned.

The Enigmatic Russian Paying Maria Butina's Legal Bills

In the murky world of Russian influence operations, a troll farm based out of St. Petersburg can flood American voters with propaganda and disinformation at a deniable distance from the Kremlin. A Russian gun-rights group can cultivate U.S. conservatives at arm’s length from Vladimir Putin. And an unregistered Russian agent being held in a Northern Virginia detention center can have her legal bills paid by an NGO that is partly funded, but not directly controlled, by the Kremlin.

It is an impeachable offense to be a lying sack of shit:

Trump’s untruths about Veterans Choice illustrate the sheer audaciousness of his lies. Trump said he created it because Sen. John McCain failed to. Back in 2014, before Trump was even a presidential candidate, McCain and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) co-sponsored the bill, which was signed into law by then-President Obama. Watch Trump lie his head off yesterday:

Brazen lies; bizarre, macabre rants — just another day at the office for the 45th president.

Do you recognize your signature in red, above? While you and rue/1kiki are confused about who is the worst President: Obama/Clinton/Carter/LBJ/JFK/FDR/Truman/Bush/Bush 2/Reagan/Ford/Nixon/Eisenhower, Trump and I are going about our business of collecting vast fortunes while the lower 99% argue with each other.

From where Trump is sitting, the lower 99% look seriously stupid, and god won't be punishing Trump or me, despite what you might hope happens. Either the lower 99% of people do it or it won't get done. (I'm confident that the top 10% won't try because they hope someday to be 1 Percenters.) If you keep arguing, Trump and I will get away free. I'll probably live to be 112 y.o. That gives you another 45 years to pull together and overthrow me and the other 1 Percenters. I'm betting you won't even get started because you won't stop arguing about the best way to do it or who is the biggest liar of a President.

While you argue about Trump and thwart his natioanlist goals, the even bigger elite make off with more of the wealth than you can possibly imagine.

But why am I arguing with a religious person? You have your religion, as warped as it is, and nothing is going to shake it from you.
