Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

I wish more people would talk about the stuff that he's talking about. ESPECIALLY people like Jimmy that are unarguably on the Left. A younger guy named Tim Poole who got his start doing on the ground reporting for VICE back in the day, who claims he's a Liberal, isn't taken nearly as seriously even though I think a lot of his stuff is just as good. He does 4 videos every day. That poor guy probably gets called an Alt-Right Nazi and an SJW Soyboy 100 times each on average every day.

Dore's got plenty of other stuff about warhawks uploaded. I might go back and find some of his other really good ones. I don't know though... I might just update this thread with whatever good ones he does on war going forward.

In William Arkin's farewell memo, he said the American press is not aggressive enough about covering military engagements.

"In our day-to-day whirlwind and hostage status as prisoners of Donald Trump, I think — like everyone else does — that we miss so much," Arkin says.

"I find it disheartening that we do not report the failures of the generals and national security leaders," he said. "I find it shocking that we essentially condone continued American bumbling in the Middle East and now Africa through our ho-hum reporting."

He said that most of his critiques of NBC apply to the rest of the news media, as well.

Years ago, he said, "particularly as the social media wave began, it was clear that NBC (like the rest of the news media) could no longer keep up with the world. Added to that was the intellectual challenge of how to report our new kind of wars when there were no real fronts and no actual measures of success."

Arkin is inclined to agree with some of Trump's isolationist instincts, though he called Trump an "ignorant and incompetent impostor."

"And yet," he wrote, "I'm alarmed at how quick NBC is to mechanically argue the contrary, to be in favor of policies that just spell more conflict and more war."

Staffers at NBC might object to that line — pointing out that the network doesn't take an institutional position in favor of any policy. But Arkin is describing the impression he takes away from the news coverage and commentary.

He also said in the memo that "Trump got elected and Investigations got sucked into the tweeting vortex, increasingly lost in a directionless adrenaline rush, the national security and political version of leading the broadcast with every snow storm. And I would assert that in many ways NBC just began emulating the national security state itself – busy and profitable. No wars won but the ball is kept in play."

Is it gauche of me to assume that you and I largely agree at least on foreign policy as it relates to wars, Second?

Damn, son.

Could it be that we've stumbled upon something that even Reaverfan is on board with as well?

I don't believe I'm about to say this, but I agree with the above statement 100%.
