6ixStringJack: I just think you should probably have a pretty easy time finding used ones on the cheap if you keep your eyes open. |
6ixStringJack: Not that I even have them anymore, but I feel bad becuase I had 3 extra BEAUTIFUL head/foot boards that were "given" to me (see: leaving somebody else's hoard to add to my own), and I finally got rid of them in 2019. At least my neighbors knew somebody who was really interested in them, so they got a good home. I was going to keep dragging them back into my garage before the trash men picked them up otherwise. Way too nice to throw out. |
6ixStringJack: Yeah. Check out those options first for sure. Even if you could do a plywood solution, you deserve much better than that. Treat yourself to a nice looking headboard. |
Brenda: It's hard for me to get to somewhere that would sell plywood. That is the only problem with that. |
Brenda: Yeah, that is what I should do. The Sally Ann as we call it up here. |
6ixStringJack: And the plywood will work with the right bolts and washers, which probably came with the bed frame. The bolts might be too long, but you can find something to build up around them, like a bunch of extra washers instead of just one on each side of the plywood. It won't be the prettiest headboard, but it would work. |
6ixStringJack: Yeah. Check out the Salvation Army. Or if they have something like Habitat for Humanity Restore too, but at least by me they're pretty overpriced. People get rid of head/footboards all the time so you should be able to find one somewhere for a decent price. |
Brenda: In my city it would be the Salvation Army Thrift store. They have furniture and I might find something there. I never really thought of it. It is a good idea for sure. |
Brenda: Plywood is a possibility. I had one once but like a lot of things it got lost in all the moving. |
6ixStringJack: But finding a nice headboard that is the width of the bed is probably the best way to go. Do you have any furniture resale places? You still may want to try Goodwill. They don't sell any bedding stuff around here either because of bedbugs, but I regularly see a big stack of headboards and footboards for beds in the back corner of the store where they have their other furniture. You could luck into something really nice there for a fraction of the price if they do. |
6ixStringJack: Well you could do something makeshift, like just getting a piece of real plywood (not "OSB") and drill the holes where the bolts would go into it from the frame and secure it with washers. That would give you backing, but even if you stained it, it wouldn't look very good. Or you could put furniture feet pads on the back of the frame that would screw into a board and back it all the way up to the wall and use the wall for support when you were sitting up. |
Brenda: Yeah, I guess. Places like that don't sell beds or anything like that anymore for fear of bed bugs. So, it is back to looking at the company's web site to see if I can do anything. I appreciate the input. |
Brenda: I got it all together but it took me a bit of time including making a mistake. It was a two person job and had to ask someone to come and help fix it. They did thank goodness. |
Brenda: Because I like to sit up in bed and read or write and I need something stable behind my back and neck to do that. That's the reason for a headboard. |
Brenda: Oh, no. That's terrible. That's also one of the worst things is waiting on a call to see if someone makes it home. It was worse before cell phones, because if you called and got no answer there was a panic attack on the way. I'm glad he's alright. |
6ixStringJack: If you need a headboard, those frames are basically a standard size at this point. I'm not sure if they're one-sized fits all, and a twin frame might not also be extendable to a king-sized bed, but if you wanted a headboard you can probably find one that the end of the frame could bolt into if you got the right size headboard for your frame. I've seen plenty of decent headboards for sale pretty cheap at Goodwill over the years, so you may want to try looking there or at any similar places you have up there. |
6ixStringJack: A lot of beds just don't have them anymore and just send you with the frame you've probably got. You should just be able to put the boxspring on the frame and the mattress on top of that. They should have given you instructions to put that frame together, but they're really all the same so if you don't have instructions you could probably easily find that online. The frame will support the weight of the bed and anyone sleeping on it without a headboard once it's put together correctly. |
6ixStringJack: The first question would be, do you need a headboard? |
6ixStringJack: The day had its moments, but was already derailed because in the last 48 hours almost everyone I know decided at the same time to make their problems my problems, so it only started out with about 4 hours of sleep after yesterday's drama. Thought I was turning in pretty early for me when a friend of mine decided to make more of his problems my own, and I was sitting around here about 2 hours waiting for him to come over without being able to reach him before his phone died. Finally got a call from him letting me know he was okay after he got home and charged his phone enough to call me. I was just trying to go to bed hoping that's where he was going because either he was lying in a ditch, he got himself arrested or dead otherwise. |
Brenda: Hey, Jack. I got a new bed but it didn't come with a headboard. You got any ideas on what I can use? The space it has to fill is 13inches wide and not sure how many inches high. |
