Jayne and Kaylee encounter a dangerous situation

Four related drabbles written for the firefly100 community on Live Journal. Each drabble must be written to the prompt and be exactly 100 words. ________________________________________________

Strength - prompt Hear

Her heart was beatin’ fast and her hands were shakin’.

“Kaylee,” his voice was soft as a large hand engulfed both hers.

She tucked her head into his shoulder, so close she could hear his heart beat, and breathed deep; tryin’ to inhale his warmth and strength.

He dropped a light kiss on her hair and folded her hands over the rungs of the ladder.

She started to climb, Jayne climbin’ outside of her. Without him she’d be terrified, useless. With him she found strength. If they ever got outta this, she was gonna have to explore that feelin’.

Danger - prompt See

They were nearly outta danger. Kaylee had done good, there was lots more strength there than he’d thought.

He could see the shuttle approachin’ but there was nowhere for it to land, so a rope was lowered to them.

Jayne made sure Kaylee was positioned right and placed his foot beside hers in the stirrup. He could hear the bad guys comin’ up the ladder, and they weren’t happy.

Carefully he wrapped his arms round Kaylee and signalled to be pulled up. His whole body jerkin’ as a bullet hit him in the back; he tightened his grip on Kaylee.

Hit - prompt Hear

Zoë could easily hear Kaylee’s voice as she shrieked over the roar of the shuttle engines and firing of guns.

“Jayne’s hit!”

Zoë cursed the slow pace of the winch as she watched anxiously; expecting both to go plummeting to the ground. As they moved closer it was obvious their friends weren’t gonna fall. Jayne literally had a death grip on both Kaylee and the rope.

The Shepherd rushed to help and grasping the dead weight of the mercenary, they hauled their lost lambs on board.

Kaylee gently disengaged herself from Jayne and stood shakily, “please tell me he’s alright?”

Apples - prompt Scent

Jayne woke up slowly keepin’ his eyes closed till he identified where he was.

As usual his mind recognised everyone and everything by scent first.

He was on Serenity, the smell of dust, rust and oil was strong in his nostrils, probably lyin’ in the infirmary, it always smelt sterile. The doctor was there smellin’ of new mowed grass and medicine.

Zoë standin’ back, a mixture of leather ‘n’ lavender, the Captain beside her, spice and gun oil.

The one who always smelt the best was standing closest to him, a heady cocktail of flowers, engine grease and apples, Kaylee.

Bookaddict, I really liked these. Especially the scent one, and the one where Jayne was hit. Where do I find this 100words drabble thing? I'm on LJ too and I'd like to take a look, if not maybe even write some. Prompts are always useful!
