Bo leaves Serenity for the safety of the Crew.

He stood at the door to the bridge, staring over their shoulder at the screen. Mal was hunched over River’s shoulder, speaking to the individual across the black. “Captain Reynolds I have no time for games. You have something I want, and I’m ready to fire on you for it. The profit I’ll incur will not differ if it’s picked up from floating in the black.” “Now, mister, we already dropped that Knife off with someone on Deishang, so there ain’t no reason for you to be shootin my ship or threatenin to harm any of my crew.” The man on the screen laughed. “I’m not talkin’ about a knife captain. I’m talking about someone you’ve got aboard your boat.” Mal’s eyes jumped to River, then Simon, and finally Bo. Their eyes met and Bo nodded. Mal shook his head, but at a sterner look turned back to the console. “A person you say? Mind tellin’ me who so I ain’t got to bother with sortin’ it out?” “Bo! Quit making me deal with this moron. I know you’re there listening. Come on up and talk with your old friend.” Bo stepped between Mal and River. He stared down at Chung’s grinning face. “How you doin’ Cap’n? Been a good while han’t it Bo?” Chung asked. “I’ve been good Chung. What’s this you’re talkin’ about, profit off me?” Bo asked. Chung laughed as the image flickered on the screen. It showed Bo’s face over a wanted sign. Below that was a list of charges that was no where near accurate. Bo shook his head. 'Let them board,' He thought to Mal. Mal blinked then looked around. His eyes came back to rest on Bo. They hardened quickly and Bo heard his thought. 'Not in a million years. No gorram way son.' 'Mal, you don't know Chung. He will fire on your ship with no remorse or thought other than the fact he's getting paid. Now if you want to keep your crew safe, you'll let him dock and take me.' Silence filled the bridge for longer than any one felt comfortable with. "Well? We gonna pull over or not?" Jayne asked, shattering the silence. "You're ape asks a good question captain. Are you going to allow me to dock or am I going to-" "We're slowing down. You're gonna have to pull around front, docking ports on the front of the ship." Mal interrupted. Chung nodded and the screen went blank. The bridge erupted in objections. "Mal, we could out run these-" Inara's voice chimed. "Sir, I don't think you're considering all the options here." Zoë said. "These guys got a gun ship Mal, we ain't gonna be able to fight them." Jayne said, mounting his front. Mal just looked at Bo, the pain evident in his eyes. Bo stared back, not letting anything show, his face as stoic as Zoë’s. They stood, amongst the arguments and yelling, eyes locked. River stood and walked from the cockpit. Bo turned and followed her. She moved silently, her feet making no noise on the steel grates. 'Why do you have to leave?' Her voice echoed in his head. 'For your safety. And the others.' He answered, the pain in his heart evident. She turned and looked at him. Her eyes said plainly that she didn't understand. Bo wrapped his arms around her and kissed her hair. He couldn't tell her or let her see, it would ruin her. He just had to let her know how much he wanted to stay, wanted to be with her. He let his mind flow into hers, felt her adoration for him felt his caring for her wash into her. She trembled in his arms, he felt the tears fall on his shirt. He pulled her lips to his for the final time, then released her and went down the stairs. She stood there, tears falling slowly down her face, for reasons she couldn't understand. She had just met this young man, and yet she could feel the connection they shared. She turned and walked through the kitchen to the corridor before the engine room. There she turned and went down the steps to the common room. His bag was there, she grabbed it and reached in. She pulled out a tattered shirt that he had worn the day he brought Mal to them from the bar. It smelled like Bo still. She took it to her room, moving away just as he entered from the cargo bay. Bo felt her leave, knowing what she had done. He smiled as he grabbed his bag and closed it back. He turned and walked back into the cargo area just as the bay doors were beginning to open. Astros Leak came in first, his .50 caliber carbine sweeping the area. Verito Deeport followed, his rifle doing the same. Chung came in, pistol centered on Bo, followed by Avian Wevster. Bo knew them all, all gangsters from the rougher side of Alvarion, a moon close to Whitefall. Chung's smirk told Bo more than he needed to read from the young man's mind. Bo was worth as much dead as alive, and as soon as Chung was out of sight of this crew he'd make sure he got what he wanted. The beast inside Bo laughed, the evil barking laugh that it had. 'This child really thinks he's going to kill me?' it growled. 'Seems that way. Gonna stop him?' Bo challenged The beast snarled and Bo felt his teeth sharpen. He looked down to see his fingernails doing the same. Mal stepped into the bay from the door above, making Bo fight to keep control. 'We both want them dead, let me feast on their carcasses.' 'I will, but you need to contain your hunger. Just wait. When we're aboard my ship we will.' Bo said, trying to talk sense to the beast. 'I must feed.' was the only response he received. His teeth remained sharp, but they didn't lengthen. He stared at Chung, smelled his greed, heard the rush of his heart. All these enticed the beast further, made it hunger. Chung moved forward. "No sudden moves if you please, Captain Reynolds. If that were to happen, my boys here would be forced to open up on the rest of your crew. I only mean to be takin one of your men here, don't need to be hurtin more." Chung said as he approached Bo. Bo smelled his sweat, the beast longed to lash out, dig into his neck and drink deep from his jugular. Bo fought it and dropped his bag. He turned slowly and put his hands behind his back. Chung wrapped the wire around his wrists. He leaned forward and whispered in his ear. "You might want to consider the fact that I have razor wire wrapped around vital parts of your wrist. Move the wrong way and you'll die a slow and agonizing death. It don't matter to me either way, just lettin you know cap'n." "Don't call me that. It's been a long time since you even gave thought to me as your captain." "Aww naw, I still think of you as my captain, just think I could make a better one." Bo nodded as he motioned towards his bag. Chung picked it up and wrenched Bo's arm so that he thought he was at the disadvantage. Bo grit his sharpened teeth and walked towards his own ship. River's mind brushed his as he stepped through the air lock. 'Goodbye.' Her voice said softly. 'Goodbye, bao-bei.' He said with a sigh. Mal's voice echoed in his head as he turned to look at his friend, his brother when he left. 'I better see you again.' Mal said, near angry. 'Don't worry, you will.' Bo said with a grin. X--------------------------------------------------------------------X

Voodoo pulled away, Serenity shadowed in the light of the closest star. Bo stared out the window, wondering when he'd see the Firefly again. Chung forced him down in a seat, turning around and locking the door on his way out. Bo could hear them celebrating in the bridge. He grinned as he ripped the wire from his wrist. The scent of the ship was familiar, it smelled of oil and fuel. He felt at home here. He ran his fingers over the metal on the wall. He reached down and pulled his boots off as he felt his toe nails sharpen and watched them blacken. A snarling laugh escaped his lips as his muscles tensed then relaxed. He reached for the door, then stopped. 'Kill them all, and do what you want with their bodies. But when you're done I get my ship.' Bo told the beast. 'I have no use for the ship, do with it what you will.' It snarled back. He reached for the door, his hand looking more lupine than ever. He wrapped his fingers around the handle and wrenched the door open, hearing the satisfying shatter of the lock. He moved slowly into the corridor that lead to the bridge. He turned towards the bridge, and felt the beast begin to take over. His eyes flooded with red as he lurched forward. His mind flashed of images of Chungs face, laughing then screaming. Flashes of Deeport laying on the floor, clutching his throat. Astros missing his bottom jaw. Wevster's head completely gone.

Bo awoke, his shirt missing and blood covering everything. Bullets lay around him, more than likely having been pushed from his body in the new healing process. His head throbbed as he looked around the dining area. His ship was slightly smaller than Serenity, but still large enough to fit four members of a crew in the ship comfortably. He groaned as he stood, blood dribbled slightly from his mouth. He wiped it from his chin, smelled it, confirming that it wasn't his. He walked to his quarters. Stepping down into his room, Bo saw that Chung had made some changes. A bottle sat close to the bed, along with a bra that seemed cheap and poorly made. Bo grabbed the bottle and smelled the top. "Lan-dan Jiang." He muttered as he tossed it in the open trash compartment. Snarling he grabbed an old shirt and went back up the ladder to the bridge. He sat in the chair and logged into their re-fuel log. The last stop had been at Harvest. Bo sent a message to Jessica and Smiley. "Jess or Tyler, whichever gets this first. I need a vector to come and get you. I've got the ship back and need Smiley to work on the engine, my first mate would be missed too." He cut the link, trying to keep anyone from tracking his transmission. He kicked the engine to hard burn towards Joseph’s moon. His ship stunk of blood and excrement. Bo sighed as his work load reared its head. He went to the cargo bay and grabbed a bucket and a mop. His work would be slow and tedious, but he'd be done by the time he got to Joseph's moon he'd be clean.

X-------------------------------------------------------X

He landed the boat, not nearly as cleanly as River, but well in his own right. Opening the bay door, Bo stepped out onto the dirt the moon was known for. It was red and black, looking like a mix of new and dried blood. He had his two .357's in their holsters, Joseph was always testy when he was armed. He knew that with the warrant out though that Joseph would understand. He walked through the market, glancing at different carts as he passed them. His black boots sank silently in the sand beneath him. He moved past a vendor whose cart smelled of something familiar. Bo stopped and looked down at the table. It was covered in Reaver weapons and armor. His hand ran slowly over one of the blades that seemed to be made of shards of a ship. It looked as if it was toothed along the blade. "Eighty coin." Said the man who seemed preoccupied with other things. "Oh I was just looking," Bo said quietly, "though this seems like an odd piece. Is it for decoration?" The man turned, his eyes burning. A long jagged scar ran down the side of the man's face. "Hardly, boy-oh. That blade gave me this here scar." Bo nodded as he hefted the blade. Its weight was horribly unbalanced, but it felt comfortable in his hands. It was made for hacking, not for genuine fights but tearing through crowds. It had probably been held by a Reaver chieftain. Bo set it back on the table and admired the way the light was more captured by the metal than reflected off of it. He reached in his pocket and contemplated purchasing the weapon, but decided against it. He thanked the man for his time and wandered further down the market. He came to Joseph's alleyway and walked down the shadowed corridor. He heard weapons cocking as he rounded the corner. A shotgun was pointed directly at him, less than four feet away. "Now Joseph, I thought we were friends." Bo said, his voice deepening and becoming rough. "We is brudda, but you know I don't like it when you come in mah den armed." was Joseph's terse reply. "There's a warrant out for me. I go everywhere armed, now you wanna get your boy's muzzle away from my stomach?" Bo growled. Joseph nodded and the man lowered the shotgun. Bo removed his hand from the pistol at his waist and turned to Joseph. The black man sat on his self-made thrown staring across the large table between them. His dark eyes glittered in the dull light as he crossed his fingers across his chest. "What you be lookin for Ace? Sometin I got?" He spread his hands wide and then brought them back to his chest. "More along the lines of something you can get." Bo replied. Joseph's eyebrow arched at the sound of this. "You don say?" "I do, I need a smaller ship. One just big enough for three members to live aboard comfortably. Voodoo is just too big, requires too much money to up keep it. Don't want no transport ship either. Just something that will get me out from under the Alliances skirt as quickly as I need it to, something that'll outrun a gunship." "A Firefly with the right parts do that for you brudda." "I need something that can fire back if need be, though." Joseph nodded and waved to one of his flunkies. He whispered in the man's ear and the man nodded. He ran around back and Bo heard a four-wheeler starting up. Bo's hand jumped to his pistol as he glared at Joseph. "Calm down, brudda. He just runnin to check in my ship yahd." Joseph said with a gold-toothed grin. Bo relaxed a hair. His hand didn't come off the pistol. A few tense minutes later, the man returned with a leather bound pack of papers. Bo pulled the papers to Voodoo from his back pocket. Joseph pulled an imager from the pocket of his long jacket and placed it on the table. A hologram flickered to life. It was a small ship, smaller than Serenity or Voodoo. Bo could see that it would sleep three crewmembers and maybe two passengers comfortably. Bo looked at him and nodded. They exchanged papers and Joseph passed a pack of bills Bo's way. Bo nodded and turned to started to walk away from the table when his ears caught something that the wolf in him reacted to. Something in the far corner of the "room" snarled at him. Bo's teeth and nails sharpened and his eyes started adjusting to the dark light. A hyena was snarling at him. Bo bared his teeth and the animal lunged. "Adonis! Hold." Joseph ordered. The hyena paid no heed as it flew through the air, mouth open. Bo grabbed the beast by the throat and slammed it to the ground. It yelped in pain, swinging its paws at Bo's face. The claws raked at Bo's face, causing considerable pain. Bo felt the wounds heal quickly as he grabbed the scruff of the dog's fur. Bo leaned down and latched his teeth on the creature's neck. The hyena stopped moving, letting out a small whimper to show its submission. Bo stood up and felt his teeth dull. The hyena sat up and watched him. He looked at Joseph's shocked face then started to leave. The animal got up and followed him. Joseph shouted again. "'Ey!" Bo heard the animal stop and turn to its former master. Joseph watched as it turned and followed Bo out of his den. 'He ain't gonna be so welcoming next time I come here.' Bo thought to himself. The ship he had just bought stood out in the distance. It was built like an older model Firefly but with notable differences. The ship was more than likely a Mantis class carrier converted to seem like a Firefly from the distance. The neck was longer and two of the front legs were longer and used in the landing process. They folded back in flight and more than likely had guns set in the steelwork. Bo grinned "It's perfect." He said quietly. The hyena barked in agreement. "So, now I have two things to name. A ship, and a dog." The animal's tongue lolled out of it's mouth as it stared up at him. Bo rubbed the wild-dog's head. They walked towards the ship, admiring the guns on the front side, and the rotating cannon mount at the rear side. Bo nodded as he pressed in the code from the box on the opening hatch. The hydraulics hissed as the doors opened. He walked inside and smiled. It had a small cargo area that resembled the one in Serenity, but there was no main cat-walk. He closed the door and walked through to the common area. The common area was larger, set beside the gun mount on the rear. The infirmary was larger as well, and well stocked from what Bo could see. There were no stairs that led to the upper decks on the back side, but rather the front side of the infirmary. He went up the stairs to the corridor in front of the engine room. The engine was practically new, maybe a few spots of rust. The kitchen area was unpainted, and seemed starched. The cabinets were full though, and he could always paint it later. The sleeping quarters had ladders in the bridge hall, all except what would seem to be the captain’s quarters. It had a set of stairs with a hatch that locked from the inside. "Guess that's where you and I sleep, huh?" Bo looked down at the now friendly hyena. The dog drooled on the steel grating, making Bo laugh. They wandered up into the bridge and Bo fired the ship up. He logged into the cortex and checked his messages. He had two. One was from Smiley, the other was from Jessica. Both were on Santo, working at a bar. Bo shook his head. 'Of course Smiley would have found work in a Bar. And Monte probably took work wherever she could.' The hyena barked, dragging him from his thoughts. "Right, names. Well, I don't like Adonis." The animal didn't react at all to the name. "And apparently neither do you. Let's see,-" He paused as he thought. "I've got it. Whiskey." The hyena's ears perked and his head tilted. "Ah, I think it'll work. Alright Whiskey, now we need a name for the ship. How... about... hmmm.-" the hyena laid down on the grated floor and eyed his new master. Bo looked at the cortex as he logged in the name of the new ship. VALOR.

X------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------X

(( So, Bo left the crew of Serenity and got a new ship. A Mantis class 42.10-56M, small mid-sized cargo. He got a pet too, interesting. Guess things are panning out well, though Whiskey's old owner might not like that his rare pet is now in the ownership of someone else. Now what will Bo do? Guess you'll have to keep flying and find out.))

Good stuff, but surely Bo would let Mal know he was alive and kicking?
