Be gentle! It’s my first fanfic story. It’s told from both sides of the relationship. Each part is from Jayne or Kaylee’s point of view, or both! Other characters pop in and out. Part 3

“Kaylee!” Jayne whispered in her ear, “Where did you just go?”

“I was just thinkin’…,” she said with a smile.

“Well, think about how your hand’s feelin’! Is it easin’? Should I take ya to see the Doc?”

“No! It’s fine, Jayne. It ain’t a bad burn. Ya got my hand under cold water pretty quick and it’s cooled down some. I reckon if ya can get me some burn cream and somethin’ for the pain, I don’t think we need to bother Simon…”

“Well, if ya sure…” Jayne grinned.

So she didn’t need to see the Doc about every scrape and cut and burn any more! When did that all change? She had been so hung up on Simon for so long. It had him climbing the walls, ‘till anytime they got to a friendly planet he sought relief with a willing woman ….. Maybe he had a chance?

He gazed down into her smiling face. How’d she get so brave, still looking so shiny with all the pain she must be feeling?

“Ya wait here. I’ll be right back!”

As he passed his bunk he smiled, and slipped down to grab the blanket his Ma had sent. Kaylee’d be feeling cold after running her hand under the cold water and with the pain of the burn.

He approached the infirmary, checking that the Doc was nowhere to be seen. River stood in the doorway, a strange smile on her face.

“What’cha doing, Moonbrain?”

She handed him a tube of burn cream, some pain-killers, a couple of weaves, a bandage and a towel.

He stared at her. Gorram it! Had she been reading his mind again? Then he thought of Kaylee waiting for him in the kitchen.

“Uh…… Thanks!” Jayne stuttered, and hurried back to Kaylee.
