This applies to firefly in the sense that our Cap'n Tightpants could be shamed (of course by ignorant humps, but those ignorant humps are still potential Browncoats)
At Comi-Con there have been talks, and actual plans made by a narrow minded group of people known as Toy Soldiers, to "expose" the "stealing" of the premise of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. These people are followers of a show, site, and character known as Dr. Steel. For the last decade Dr. Steel is a mad scientist bent on taking over the world. He wears goggles, a lab coat, and he sings. Yes, there are similarities, that can be seen.
These Toy Soldiers claim that our beloved and virtuous Joss and Co. have stolen the idea for DHSAB from Dr. Steel. Yet, Joss and Co. have already made a statement that they had no idea what Dr. Steel was, that any similarity was coincidental. They have "missions" page which has "operations" on the site. Here's the one for the movement: http://www.toysoldiersunite.com/index.php?pid=missions&mid=36 that tell their followers to trash DHSAB in any way possible on the web. You can observe this at the youtube DHSAB site. Then, they have an "operation" to expose it futher at Comi-Con at the DHSAB panel. This calls for Browncoats to rise.
I cannot attend Comi-Con (goram it) yet I am sending out a rallying cry for any Browncoats that are to go and support Joss and Co., Nathan, and DHSAB by telling people the truth. The Toy Soldiers say they will be peaceful, so we should too. Please do something to get what really happened out there. Don't let them destroy many of our favorite peoples' reps by spreading falsehoods.

Acorriding to the Toy Soldier "Operations" page, their movement will take place EDIT:FRIDAY JULY, 25 FROM 1:30PM-2:30PM OUTSIDE THE DR. HORRIBlE PANEL AT BALL ROOM 20. THEN AT 10:45PM-12:00AM THEY WILL BE AT ROOM 6B FOR THE DR. HORRIBLE SCREENING.

If it's any consolation, I've never heard of Dr. Steel, or Toy Soldiers for that matter, until this posting.
Those so-called Toy Solders should grow up. Also if this were true, I think a lawsuit would have been the way to go. Its easy for anyone to say, "Oh yeah, that was my idea and he stole it from me." Proving it is something else.

Later the whole event is broadcast on the net with a commentary and bonus features.
It is a smash success.
"Indeed yes," says Joss "I likes me a killin' - M'wha ha ha!"

Oh for @#*%'s sake! The concept of a crazy goggle and lab coat wearing nut job wanting to rule the world is hardly a new one! Joss and co have beautifully amped it up and made it accutely entertaining by adding their own very unique and utterly engaging spin on it...Who the Bleep are these Toy Soldiers? are there more than 7 of them? do they honestly believe their Dr Steel will have an impact relative to Dr Horrible? actually this thing is kind of amusing...have you noticed how many people out there are offended by anything Whedonesqual, just because it inspires so much love and loyalty? It makes them nuts, and it's fun to make them go nuts, and even more fun to introduce them to Firefly and have them admit they love it...and then they go even crazier...but by then they are well and truly hooked.

I love Doctor Steel, now that I know who he is, but I hope he is ashamed of himself for ripping off Dr. Frankenstein. Me and my Frankensoldiers are going to (peaceably) trash his butt all over the Interwebs.

That is so true! I've got the DVD set for Space Ghost from 1966, and just about EVERY episode has some madman wearing a lab coat with a devious plan to take over the world. Also, Dr. No, Bloefield, anyone?

I totally agree with everyone. The people who never heard of him, neither had I, until I went o watch the preview on YouTube...again (again [run tze duh fwoo tzoo I love that thing]). I'm glad everyone hasn't flamed up and stuff, that just makes me remember who we are and what we stand for. I just thought people should know about this. A chance for us to make peace with a situation that if it was anyone but Browncoats and other Whedonites, could have gotten out of hand. You guys rock...out loud...like Keith Moon style...without the feinting on stage....yea. I'm sorry if the first post was a bit fear-mongerish, like Dr. Horrible, I come on a bit strong.
Oh, and Ihaven't posted this on Whedonesque, because I sadly do not have a membership there. I want one so bad, but when a holiday comes around, I always forget...whens the next registration, anyone
know?

I also wanted to apologize for using the generalization that Toy Soldiers were narrowminded. Its only a group of them. Dr. Steel isn't half bad really. Its just when people insult Joss the way they were, go-suh hits the engines.

I first heard about this over on Whedonesque, so I went to check out Dr. Steel... aside from the fact that he does music and singing, and yeah, they both wear the 'traditional' mad scientist get up, there are no similarities...
I'm happy to have discovered that I quite like Dr. Steel's stuff, however, his Toy Soldiers leave something to be desired. It's sad, because if they hadn't all been such whiners, I might have one day counted myself as one of their numbers. But not now.
Imagine, being able to enjoy Dr. Horrible AND Dr. Steel - what a concept! They complain because Steel's been around since the 90's, so instead of cashing in on Dr. Horrible's popularity to gain some cross fandom following (a simple Hey, you Dr. Horrible fans might like this guy too would have sufficed) they've alienated a legion of potential fans that probably would enjoy Dr. Steel.
The shortsightedness of some people... reminds me of the marketing people at Fox and Universal, shutting down fansites and fan merch for copy right infringement instead of realizing that these people are keeping your fandom alive!!!
But I digress... rant rant rant.
Long live Dr. Horrible (and do check out Dr. Steel, he's got some fun stuff)
Also - as a note, it would preserve our dignity and show that we are the better fandom by NOT retaliating to their infantile efforts. Browncoats are the best folks out there! Let's keep it that way~!
