I'm pretty sure they don't look at things like that. I don't know how Disney does with its financials, its reporting to shareholders and its taxes, but websites like The-Numbers and BoxOfficeMojo are going to count this all as 2024 revenue. The only qualifier for that is if it were released before January 1st.

So technically any of the movies that came out this weekend and even next weekend could theoretically make enough money to move YOLO down a spot or two sometime in January or February even, but I don't think there's anything else left in theaters or coming out next week that can do this.

Sonic 3 possibly could, I guess... maybe it will since its only real competition until next year is Mufasa and that's falling flat on its face. It would still need to make about $70 Million more than the 2nd movie made, and it would need to make $170 million more than the first movie made to push YOLO down to 10th.

I gotta hand it to Disney for releasing the Mufasa 2 turd right before Christmas break. They do seem to be benefitting from it quite a bit.

There was more money generated in the US on Christmas day for this movie than there was on opening Friday by $4.7 Million, and it made $7 Million on both Monday and Tuesday preceding that.

Despite all this extra money, Mufasa 2 still stands at a pathetic 32% Domestic share, signalling that nobody in the US is really interested in this. Unless it gets a ton of repeat viewings before the kids go back to school, it's not looking good.

I'll be damned. The reports talking about a surprise turnaround for Mufasa 2 aren't unwarranted.

I'm almost certain this is the first time I've seen a movie make more on its 2nd weekend than it did on the first weekend. All the more impressive since there is no Preview Thursday numbers built into the 2nd weekend. It made $1.4 Million more on the 2nd weekend than on the opener. Just around $5 Million more if you don't count Preview Thursday.

This sounds better than it actually is though. $36 Million for a 2nd weekend on what would easily have been a Disney Blockbuster 5 years ago is bad, but it's even worse when the opener was only $35 Million. Usually a bad 2nd weekend of $36 Million would have been preceded by anywhere from $50 to $100 Million on the opener.

Christmas break has been very good to it. With weekends only in the mid $30 Millions, this movie should not be seeing anywhere close to $7 Million per week day, but it has yet to dip under $7 Million.

It's still only got a 36% Domestic share though, and I think the bottom is going to fall out when the kids go back to school.

It's got $335 Million now. It needs at least $500 Million to break even. That number increases if we find out about reshoots or other costs they didn't admit to when they called it an even $200 Million.

Disney executives get a warm feeling when people pay theater ticket prices to see advertisements for Disney theme parks. But people who understand Disney's business plan and avoid paying for something that is normally free will shout out loudly, "Thanks, Disney!"

Twelve days after Mufasa: The Lion King (2024) opens at theaters, perfect copies are available.

How do you get people to pay to see a 90-minute-long commercial for The Lion King section of Disney Parks? Some suckers feel obligated to pay but if you are Disney, you give away the commercial disguised as a movie for free. I repeat: Thanks again, Disney!
