My thoughts?

It looks fun. I'm actually pretty hyped to see it after watching the trailer. I can't imagine not enjoying this movie, especially if you're a fan.

That being said...

At 54 years old, Cate Blanchett is way too old to be playing Lilith, but they did right by the look otherwise. She's a great actress so maybe she can pull it off.

Kevin Hart appears to be a great choice for Roland.

Krieg doesn't appear to get enough screentime. Salvador and Maya missing entirely from the movie is tragic.

At 61 years old, Gina Gershon is WAY too old to play Moxxi. She would have been a great fit for the role back when Striptease was released in theaters back in 1996. I dunno. Not the biggest character in the first place, and Gershon is a fine enough actress so it's probably alright.

Ariana Greenblatt is our needless race swap for Tiny Tina. At 16 years old she's also a little too old to be playing Tiny Tina, who was only 13 years old in the games. Despite these two issues she does seem to do the character quite a bit of justice.

And I don't really know which Borderlands game this is supposed to be a part of, or if it's a mixture of several of them. I've only ever played Borderlands 2, but I played the hell out of it and it is IMO one of the greatest games ever made. So when they talk about the vault, that's what they were looking for in Borderlands 2. So why the hell isn't Handsome Jack, one of the greatest video game villains ever made in this movie?

Instead they're giving us a made up character in the personification of a company in the games called Atlas, and making the big bad of the movie the CEO of Atlas Corporation named Atlas.

Stupid choice.

And some of the awesome characters that were playable in the 1st game and came back as storyline NPCs in the second game like Mordecai are in this movie either.

Maybe Lionsgate didn't have the budget for doing Bloodwing justice? But it shouldn't have cost all that much because without Handsome Jack in the movie they shouldn't be introducing us to Slagged Bloodwing anyhow, and that's where they'd really be blowing the budget.

At least they didn't leave Scooter out...

Personally, I hope this movie does VERY well. You can't please all the fans, but at least it looks like they actually tried here, which is more than you can say for a lot of the recent video game properties put on film or on streaming services in the last few years.

And in the age of IPs, if this one does well enough, hopefully they get a chance to expand on the universe and they'll have a chance to put Handsome Jack front and center as the main antagonist and make it up to us when they announce Borderlands 2.
