I've heard about this over the past year, more often in the past month. I've heard it in reference to debt forgiveness ("Jubilee") but also other, more sinister, proposals.

The first person to use "the Great Reset" was Klaus Schwab, founder of the World Economic Forum (otherwise know as Davos) and it isn't a woo-woo conspiracy theory but actually discussed in the open among the "Davos crowd".

https://www.weforum.org/great-reset

Without further ado, an explanation of The Great Reset and what it means for us. (And, parenthetically an example of "fascism")

So...

Somebody like me who's lived within their means and hasn't had debt for the last 15 years...

Do I get a huge bonus when everybody else gets all of the shit they didn't need paid for?

Somehow I doubt it very much.

Maybe I'll just run up the $100,000 worth of credit cards I've got if I see that future coming to life. Maybe I'll just buy my next house with credit cards.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Exactly. It will all be taken away from the (former) middle class to pay off the (former) factory workers.

"Nobody* will own anything, and you will be happy".

*Except the very wealthiest, who will own everything.

*****

Does nobody see the contradiction in all of that?

If the wealthiest automate everything, why would they want to maintain seven billion plus "useless eaters"? Why go through all the trouble and expense and headache of robbing from some to keep the peace with others, and enforcing a monoculture on everyone so we can all live in perfectly equal squalor? All they REALLY would need would be maybe a few million people to make, staff, repair, and program the machines to make anything they might possibly want, plus a few million or so living human beings as toys, for those who so desire to toy with livig flesh.

All of this twaddle about "caring" about "solving" the world's problems of extreme inequality of wealth (which they caused), global climate change, and all of that, can be more simply solved (from the POV of the extremely wealthy) by simply getting rid of a whole bunch of people.

Lest anyone imagine that I'm taking Justin Trudeau out of context, here is his speech about the great opportunities "we" are presented with bc of Covid-19.

Also, some interpretation of his doublespeak.

0:40 "To mobilize finance for the response and the recovery"

i.e. to backstop the central banks with more government money so they could continue to make loans and call them "assets"

0:40-0;60 "Finance ministers met to discuss the most promising proposals ... IMF... World Bank... leader summits"
But YOU aren't included in these discussions

1:40 "Canada will provide $400 million..."
To big pharma. Nowhere did I hear that big pharma was going to sacrifice anything in this "fight against Covid". Because "We're all in this together"... except some who are suffering and some who're making out like bandits

2:05 "Strong coordinated response across the world and across sectors.."
Because who WOULD'T welcome a world-straddling technocracy to "solve" all of our problems?

2:25 "investing more in international development..."
Yep, let's put those poor countries even more in debt than they are now!

2:43 "...trusted partners..."
Politically-aligned NGOs, friendly tyrants, and corporations

2:55 "Debt service suspension initiative"
Because which banks want to suddenly have to declare a bunch of NPLs? (non-performing loans)

This Great Reset is going to turn out like Obama's historic moment when many banks teetered on collapse, threatening to take down the insurances like AIG with them: Lots of money for banks, none for people.

It will turn out like the CARES Act: 80% going to large corporations, nothing for Main Street.

If the wealthy elite REALLY want to solve the world's problems, they would dissolve their system and then themselves, and let the world get on without their constant parasitism and interference. Instead, they'll springboard Covid-19 as an excuse to take even more control

Never let a good crisis go to waste"- Rahm Emmanuel, Obama's advisor

Like Kiki said. All very eye opening.

I'm wondering now if you're starting to think that the crisis itself was manufactured in the first place. Make it look like it was about Trump, but then after Trump is out of the way make it dominate the headlines once again and hear about shutdowns all over coming back in style.

PA just passed a law mandating that everyone in your own house must wear masks if anybody is in your house that isn't a resident said house.

How do you enforce that? Military?

EDITED TO ADD:

Oh... and CNN did the literally unthinkable the other day and gave Trump credit for the Covid vaccine.

Seriously... WTF? Four years and not a single nice thing to say about Trump, but they're going to give him THAT one?

I'd be seriously hesitant to be one of the first people taking that shot if I were you. I wasn't going to take it regardless, but CNN praising Trump for this should give anybody in their right minds pause after their behavior for the last 4 years.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

As a personal reaction to Justine Trudeau (yes, I misspelled his name on purpose) the guy is an amoral, insufferable virtue-signaller who dressed up his little boy in girl's clothes to support ... whatever... but was so clueless "back then" that he was picured in blackface - not once, but twice, and had an affair with student. You can't make this shit up.

Every time I see him speak he reminds me of a little boy who got into his dad's clothes and is only too proud when the adults let him prattle on. He's like Greta Thunberg: He really thinks that they're listening to him!

Anyway, SIX, I think the question for the Davos crowd is: How do you disposses the remaining few who actually have net assets (i.e real property, money in the bank, a paid-for car)?

Do you recall over the past two years or so in a lot of those pop-up articles they kept pushing the "It's not purchasing 'stuff' that makes you happy, it's purchasing experiences"?

So, yanno, blow your money on something ephemeral, like a cruise (heh) or fine restaurants or taking your kids to Disneyworld/land/themepark because you will make beautiful memories that will last forever (or as long as your memory does, which- according to psychologists- starts degrading and morphing the first time you access it).

I sometimes wonder if that was a first wedge in the move to disposses "people" from "things"?

*****

Anyway. It would have to be something that can be applied worldwide. The Great Recession was one such event. In the run-up to the financial meltdown, MANY people ... not just in the USA but elsewhere ... took what little money they had, went into hock waaaaaay over their heads to buy a house, then when real estate values came crashing down Obama, Gordon Brown (England), and The EU Troika bailed out the banks, but imposed austerity on people. That was a ginormous transfer of wealth right across the western financial system.

That was when "they" came up with the brilliant procedure called "bail in": If a bank fails, it takes your money (which, in their eyes, is NOT your money, but an unsecured loan to the bank) and exchange it for stocks of unknown value so the bank can recapitalize itself.

Covid-19 is another great move to disposses people: rob them of their jobs, force them to use up what little savings they have and make them depedent on "the dole".

But there will still be those reistent nuggets who've managed to hang onto SOMEthing... a home, a car, savings... maybe even all three.

Well, I suppose there can always be reparations or UBI or something like, based on taxes that the "little people" can't escape (but the "big people" and corporations always can). So ... taxes.

Or someone could pass a law ... you aren't supposed to hae more than so many square feet per person, so there could be another tax to "level the playing field". Again, taxes.

Inflation is a great way to whittle away peope's savings.

But BANK FAILURE .... now THERE'S a stroke of genius! "They" get to xfer wealth right then and there!

I suspect ... no, I KNOW ... many banks are hanging onto NPLs right now, but not declaring them, because so many credit card, personal, home, car, and small business loans aren't being paid back. (Not to worry, The Fed has been backstopping big corporate bonds and bond-holders for months now,)

It says something when you're on hold with your credit union for over an hour while they remind you over and over again that "they're for you in these difficult times" because thousands of people must be trying to arrange some sort of repayment extension, and the credit union is doing its level best to accomodate them.

*****

Also the fact that Boris Johnson has been sidelined at a crucial time in Brexit talks at the same time that Trump has apparently lost the vote ... well, there are no coincidences in politics. All is connected, and MI6 has been playing a huge role in RUSSIA!TRUMP! ever since whenever.

Populism and nationalism must be smashed at all costs, right?

*****

I need to give this more thought, tho. Right now, I'm just spitballing ideas.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

I think the Davos 'geniuses' who think they can live in modern luxury with just a few people on the planet are in for a rude awakening.

Let's look at ... computers. Those are the things that at the very least will be needed to run the machines that do the manufacturing. Computer manufacturing, maintenance, and repair need steel, and rare earth metals, and micro (if not nano) technology for the chips. For that you need significant mining, refining to spec, and globe-spanning transport, at the least. (That's not to mention a high degree of materials science, global standards, and exquisitely specialized technology, but let's leave that aside for now.) So you need that technology - for global mining, refining to spec, and transport - as well as the large-scale energy needed for them. You need to gather the materials together for manufacture. So for transport across the pacific you need conveyance (ship or plane) that itself needs high-technology manufacturing, maintenance and repair. Not only that, but it needs to be large scale to be sure to cross the Pacific. Well, I suppose you can get by with 2 shipyards (on either side of the Pacific) and/ or 2 aircraft mfgs. So you have to have enough people to run shipyards for example. And if you're down to a skeleton fleet, you want those conveyances to be sure to get where they're going. So you need weather info, communications, and navigation ... by satellite perhaps. And you need the facilities on both sides to load and launch those conveyances and dock and unload them.

And so on.

And that's just a minuscule portion of the infrastructure needed for just computers.

But all that's assuming that those overlords would be content to just have and keep more than enough 'stuff' for a million to a billion lifetimes. But if far more than enough is what you need to be satisfied, why assume that anyone would stay satisfied with that? Why not think that the person with enough 'stuff' for a million lifetimes would be in competition with someone else with enough 'stuff' for a million lifetimes, to get enough 'stuff' for 2 million lifetimes?

Or that medical care that assures a 130 year lifespan wouldn't become too paltry and those people wouldn't want a 260 year lifespan ... or a thousand?

But for that you'd need new technology. And for THAT you'd need geniuses.

Now, we haven't figured out what genes/ environments make for a genius - yet. So anyone looking for new technology will need to get it the old-fashioned way. And that's by have a very large population so you can harvest the end of that bell curve.

And you won't help yourself by having that population living in squalor, since brain and intellectual development will be severely stunted, so you need to raise and educate those people-critters enough to get to the point of being able to identify your target people-critters who might be useful to you.

I'm not saying the de-populated heaven for the rich isn't what the Davos crowd is thinking, or that it's not going to happen. I'm just saying that it's not going to go the way they planned. Because ... well ... they're not geniuses, or even that smart. They're just ordinary people with limited brains and unexamined human impulses, with highly-conditioned (and so, limited) thinking that being rich means you can have everything you want ... who happen to be rich and powerful.

And, as anyone knows who's actually done things with their own 2 hands, reality is a stubborn thing. It doesn't yield to the magic wand of money. It only yields to hands connected to brains working toward goals; with feedback; so that there can be thinking and adapting along the way.

In any case, for global systems you'd need to maintain a system at scientific/ industrial levels you're comfortable with. I'd put that at the 1950's, maybe earlier if more of your global human stock is maintained at good enough levels to suit your needs for sheer brain-power. And that's not today's levels by any means. But it's still substantial.

John Kerry Says 'Great Reset' Is Needed To Stop Rise Of Populism
Says rejoining Paris Climate Agreement is “not enough.”

20 November, 2020

Former Secretary of State John Kerry attended a panel discussion at the World Economic Forum during which he asserted that a great reset was urgently needed to stop the rise of populism.

Kerry vowed that under a Biden administration, America would rejoin the job-killing Paris Climate Agreement but that this was “not enough.”

“The notion of a reset is more important than ever before,” Kerry said. “I personally believe … we’re at the dawn of an extremely exciting time.”

The former Senator made it clear that this “reset,” which is merely a re-branding of the same new world order that has faced stiff resistance for the past two decades, is necessary to extinguish populism.

“I think Europe has to look at that with Brexit and the rising national populism — nationalistic populism,” said Kerry. “Which is really one of the priorities that we all have to address. You can’t dismiss it.”

Speaking about how Trump increased his vote in 2020, Kerry noted, “What astounds me is that as many people still voted for the level of chaos and breach of law and order and breaking the standards and … I think that, the underlying reason for that is something that everybody has to examine.”

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also welcomed the prospect of Biden as a “friend in the White House” to the globalists and said the two entities would work on “a new rulebook for the digital economy and the digital society.”

“The need for global cooperation and this acceleration of change will both be drivers of the Great Reset. And I see this as an unprecedented opportunity,” said von der Leyen.

As we have exhaustively documented, “The Great Reset” is merely the latest incarnation of the agenda to centralize power into the hands of a tiny elite, disenfranchising Americans, lowering their living standards and forcing them to submit to a social credit score system that will eliminate all privacy and personal autonomy.

As we reported yesterday, legacy media outlets like the New York Times are still claiming the “Great Reset” is a “conspiracy theory” even as world leaders openly announce it.

Much like the USA's and NATO's "humanitarian wars" that began with hand-wringing "concern" for the "freedom" of the nations that we attacked, but ended in great smoking ruins crawling with jihadists, the Great Reset will be announced with blaring fanfare as "the solution" to the economic and personal distress caused by Covid-19, the unsustainable wealth gap, and unsustainable environmental policies, but implemented as yet another power-grab by the elite.

The SOLUTION to Covid-19 would be simply to make effective respirators available to everyone who needs and/or wants them, plus repeated instructions on how to use them effectively. And special precautions for large groups of vulnerable people, such as the elderly in care facilities. But that would be too easy.

I will bet you dollars to donuts that NONE of the "solutions" that are proposed would in any way call for any sacrifice by the wealthy or by corporations, or any diminution of their power.

Any takers?

There won't be any "Great Reset".

Hell... College tuition isn't going to be paid for, thankfully. That's just a bunch of empty promises to get elected too.

All paying for college tuition would do is give debt relief to the most upwardly mobile, predominantly white middle-class people in the country.

Most minorities going to college are doing so through scholarships and grants. It's the middle class white kids that are enslaving themselves for life to get a college degree.

They could easily remove the interest payments on those loans though, and not at a great cost. I'd suggest that after 1 year of making payments on time and in full that the interest rate for student loans be dropped to 0% for the remainder of the loan term so long as a payment isn't missed.

90% of kids who owe this money were royally screwed and didn't learn anything that is going to help them in life for the money outside of getting that expensive piece of paper. No reason to continue to gouge them the rest of their lives on that debt if they're responsible with making the payments.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

DIANA JOHNSTONE: The Great Pretext … for Dystopia
November 24, 2020

In their World Economic Forum treatise Covid-19: The Great Reset, economists Klaus Schwab and Thierry Malleret bring us the voice of would-be Global Governance.

Viewing the virtual-reality film “Collisions” at a session of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, January 2016

By titling their recently published World Economic Forum treatise Covid-19: The Great Reset, the authors link the pandemic to their futuristic proposals in ways bound to be met with a chorus of “Aha!”s. In the current atmosphere of confusion and distrust, the glee with which economists Klaus Schwab and Thierry Malleret greet the pandemic as harbinger of their proposed socioeconomic upheaval suggests that if Covid-19 hadn’t come along by accident, they would have created it (had they been able).

In fact, World Economic Forum founder Schwab was already energetically hyping the Great Reset, using climate change as the triggering crisis, before the latest coronavirus outbreak provided him with an even more immediate pretext for touting his plans to remake the world.

The authors start right in by proclaiming that “the world as we knew it in the early months of 2020 is no more,” that radical changes will shape a “new normal.” We ourselves will be transformed. “Many of our beliefs and assumptions about what the world could or should look like will be shattered in the process.”

Throughout the book, the authors seem to gloat over the presumed effects of widespread “fear” of the virus, which is supposed to condition people to desire the radical changes they envisage. They employ technocratic psychobabble to announce that the pandemic is already transforming the human mentality to conform to the new reality they consider inevitable.

“Our lingering and possibly lasting fear of being infected with a virus … will thus speed the relentless march of automation…” Really?

“The pandemic may increase our anxiety about sitting in an enclosed space with complete strangers, and many people may decide that staying home to watch the latest movie or opera is the wisest option.”

“There are other first round effects that are much easier to anticipate. Cleanliness is one of them. The pandemic will certainly heighten our focus on hygiene. A new obsession with cleanliness will particularly entail the creation of new forms of packaging. We will be encouraged not to touch the products we buy. Simple pleasures like smelling a melon or squeezing a fruit will be frowned upon and may even become a thing of the past.”

This is the voice of would-be Global Governance. From on high, experts decide what the masses ought to want, and twist the alleged popular wishes to fit the profit-making schemes they are peddling. Their schemes center on digital innovation, massive automation using “artificial intelligence,” finally even “improving” human beings by endowing them artificially with some of the attributes of robots: such as problem-solving devoid of ethical distractions.

A Powerful Lobby

What is it, exactly? I would describe the WEF as a combination capitalist consulting firm and gigantic lobby. The futuristic predictions are designed to guide investors into profitable areas in what Schwab calls “the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR)” and then, as the areas are defined, to put pressure on governments to support such investments by way of subsidies, tax breaks, procurements, regulations and legislation. In short, the WEF is the lobby for new technologies, digital everything, artificial intelligence, transhumanism.

It is powerful today because it is operating in an environment of State Capitalism, where the role of the State (especially in the United States, less so in Europe) has been largely reduced to responding positively to the demands of such lobbies, especially the financial sector. Immunized by campaign donations from the obscure wishes of ordinary people, most of today’s politicians practically need the guidance of lobbies such as the WEF to tell them what to do.

In the 20th century, notably in the New Deal, the government was under pressure from conflicting interests. The economic success of the armaments industry during World War II gave birth to a Military-Industrial Complex, which has become a permanent structural factor in the U.S. economy.

It is the dominant role of the MIC and its resulting lobbies that have definitively transformed the nation into State Capitalism rather than a Republic.

The proof of this transformation is the unanimity with which Congress never balks at approving grotesquely inflated military budgets. The MIC has spawned media and Think Tanks which ceaselessly indoctrinate the public in the existential need to keep pouring the nation’s wealth into weapons of war. Insofar as voters do not agree, they can find no means of political expression with elections monopolized by two pro-MIC parties.

The WEF can be seen as analogous to the MIC. It intends to engage governments and opinion manufacturers in the promotion of a “4IR” which will dominate the civilian economy and civilian life itself.

The pandemic is a temporary pretext; the need to “protect the environment” will be the more sustainable pretext. Just as the MIC is presented as absolutely necessary to “protect our freedoms,” the 4IR will be hailed as absolutely necessary to “save the environment” – and in both cases, many of the measures advocated will have the opposite effect.

So far, the techno-tyranny of Schwab’s 4IR has not quite won its place in U.S. State Capitalism. But its prospects are looking good. Silicon Valley contributed heavily to the Joe Biden campaign, and Biden hastened to appoint its moguls to his transition team.

But the real danger of all power going to the Reset lies not with what is there, but with what is not there: any serious political opposition.

Can Democracy Be Restored?

The Great Reset has a boulevard open to it for the simple reason that there is nothing in its way. No widespread awareness of the issues, no effective popular political organization, nothing. Schwab’s dystopia is frightening simply for that reason.

The 2020 presidential election has just illustrated the almost total depoliticization of the American people. That may sound odd considering the violent partisan emotions displayed. But it was all much ado about nothing.

There were no real issues debated, no serious political questions raised either about war or about the directions of future economic development. The vicious quarrels were about persons, not policy. Bumbling Trump was accused of being “Hitler,” and Wall Street-beholden Democrat warhawks were described by Trumpists as “socialists.” Lies, insults and confusion prevailed.

A revival of democracy could stem from organized, concentrated study of the issues raised by the Davos planners, in order to arouse an informed public opinion to evaluate which technical innovations are socially acceptable and which are not.

Cries of alarm from the margins will not influence the intellectual relationship of forces. What is needed is for people to get together everywhere to study the issues and develop well-reasoned opinions on goals and methods of future development.

Unless faced with informed and precise critiques, Silicon Valley and its corporate and financial allies will simply proceed in doing whatever they imagine they can do, whatever the social effects.

Serious evaluation should draw distinctions between potentially beneficial and unwelcome innovations, to prevent popular notions from being used to gain acceptance of every “technological advance,” however ominous.

Redefining Issues

The political distinctions between left and right, between Republican and Democrat, have grown more impassioned just as they reveal themselves to be incoherent, distorted and irrelevant, based more on ideological bias than on facts. New and more fruitful political alignments could be built through confrontation with specific concrete issues.

We could take the proposals of the Great Reset one by one and examine them in both pragmatic and ethical terms

No. 1 – Thanks to the pandemic, there has been a great increase in the use of teleconferences, using Skype, Zoom or other new platforms. The WEF welcomes this as a trend. Is it bad for that reason? To be fair, this innovation is positive in enabling many people to attend conferences without the expense, trouble and environmental cost of air travel. It has the negative side of preventing direct human contact. This is a simple issue, where positive points seem to prevail.

No. 2 – Should higher education go online, with professors giving courses to students via internet? This is a vastly more complicated question, which should be thoroughly discussed by educational institutions themselves and the communities they serve, weighing the pros and cons, remembering that those who provide the technology want to sell it, and care little about the value of human contact in education – not only human contact between student and professor, but often life-determining contacts between students themselves. Online courses may benefit geographically isolated students, but breaking up the educational community would be a major step toward the destruction of human community altogether.

No. 3 – Health and “well-being”. Here is where the discussion should heat up considerably. According to Schwab and Malleret: “Three industries in particular will flourish (in the aggregate) in the post-pandemic era: big tech, health and wellness.” For the Davos planners, the three merge.

Those who think that well-being is largely self-generated, dependent on attitudes, activity and lifestyle choices, miss the point. “The combination of AI [artificial intelligence], the IoT [internet of things] and sensors and wearable technology will produce new insights into personal well-being. They will model how we are and feel […] precise information on our carbon footprints, our impact on biodiversity, on the toxicity of all the ingredients we consume and the environments or spatial contexts in which we evolve will generate significant progress in terms of our awareness of collective and individual well-being.”

Question: do we really want or need all this cybernetic narcissism? Can’t we just enjoy life by helping a friend, stroking a cat, reading a book, listening to Bach or watching a sunset? We better make up our minds before they make over our minds.

No. 4 – Food. In order not to spoil my healthy appetite, I’ll skip over this. The tech wizards would like to phase out farmers, with all their dirty soil and animals, and industrially manufacture enhanced artificial foods created in nice clean labs – out of what exactly?

soylent green?

“In all likelihood, the recession induced by the pandemic will trigger a sharp increase in labor-substitution, meaning that physical labor will be replaced by robots and ‘intelligent’ machines, which will in turn provoke lasting and structural changes in the labor market.”

This replacement has already been underway for decades. Along with outsourcing and immigration, it has already weakened the collective power of labor. But clearly, the tech industries are poised to go much, much further and faster in throwing humans out of work.

The Covid-19 crisis and social distancing have “suddenly accelerated this process of innovation and technological change. Chatbots, which often use the same voice recognition technology behind Amazon’s Alexa, and other software that can replace tasks normally performed by human employees, are being rapidly introduced. These innovations provoked by necessity (i.e. sanitary measures) will soon result in hundreds of thousands, and potentially millions, of job losses.”

Cutting labor costs has long been the guiding motive of these innovations, along with the internal dynamic of technology industry to “do whatever it can do.” Then socially beneficial pretexts are devised in justification. Like this:

“As consumers may prefer automated services to face-to-face interactions for some time to come, what is currently happening with call centers will inevitably occur in other sectors as well.”

“Consumers may prefer…”! Everyone I know complains of the exasperation of trying to reach the bank or insurance company to explain an emergency, and instead to be confronted with a dead voice and a choice of irrelevant numbers to click. Perhaps I am underestimating the degree of hostility toward our fellow humans that now pervades society, but my impression is that there is a vast unexpressed public demand for LESS automated services and MORE contact with real persons who can think outside the algorithm and can actually UNDERSTAND the problem, not simply cough up preprogrammed fixes.

There is a potential movement out there. But we hear nothing of it, being persuaded by our media that the greatest problem facing people in their daily lives is to hear someone exhibit confusion over someone else’s confused gender.

In this, I maintain, consumer demand would merge with the desperate need of able-minded human beings to earn a living. The technocrats earn theirs handsomely by eliminating the means to earn a living of other people.

Here is one of their great ideas. “In cities as varied as Hangzhou, Washington DC and Tel Aviv, efforts are under way to move from pilot programs to large-scale operations capable of putting an army of delivery robots on the road and in the air.” What a great alternative to paying human deliverers a living wage!

And incidentally, a guy riding a delivery bicycle is using renewable energy. But all those robots and drones? Batteries, batteries and more batteries, made of what materials, coming from where and manufactured how? By more robots? Where is the energy coming from to replace not only fossil fuels, but also human physical effort?

At the last Davos meeting, Israeli intellectual Yuval Harari issued a dire warning that:

“Whereas in the past, humans had to struggle against exploitation, in the twenty-first century the really big struggle will be against irrelevance… Those who fail in the struggle against irrelevance would constitute a new ‘useless class’ – not from the viewpoint of their friends and family, but useless from the viewpoint of the economic and political system. And this useless class will be separated by an ever-growing gap from the ever more powerful elite.”

No. 5 – And the military. Our capitalist prophets of doom foresee the semi-collapse of civil aviation and the aeronautical industry as people all decide to stay home glued to their screens. But not to worry!

“This makes the defense aerospace sector an exception and a relatively safe haven.” For capital investment, that is. Instead of vacations on sunny beaches, we can look forward to space wars. It may happen sooner rather than later, because, as the Brookings Institution concludes in a 2018 report on “How artificial intelligence is transforming the world,” everything is going faster, including war:

“The big data analytics associated with AI will profoundly affect intelligence analysis, as massive amounts of data are sifted in near real time … thereby providing commanders and their staffs a level of intelligence analysis and productivity heretofore unseen. Command and control will similarly be affected as human commanders delegate certain routine, and in special circumstances, key decisions to AI platforms, reducing dramatically the time associated with the decision and subsequent action.”

So, no danger that some soft-hearted officer will hesitate to start World War III because of a sentimental attachment to humanity. When the AI platform sees an opportunity, go for it!

“In the end, warfare is a time competitive process, where the side able to decide the fastest and move most quickly to execution will generally prevail. Indeed, artificially intelligent intelligence systems, tied to AI-assisted command and control systems, can move decision support and decision-making to a speed vastly superior to the speeds of the traditional means of waging war. So fast will be this process especially if coupled to automatic decisions to launch artificially intelligent autonomous weapons systems capable of lethal outcomes, that a new term has been coined specifically to embrace the speed at which war will be waged: hyperwar.”

Americans have a choice. Either continue to quarrel over trivialities or wake up, really wake up, to the reality being planned and do something about it.

The future is shaped by investment choices. Not by naughty speech, not even by elections, but by investment choices. For the people to regain power, they must reassert their command over how and for what purposes capital is invested.

And if private capital balks, it must be socialized. This is the only revolution – and it is also the only conservatism, the only way to conserve decent human life. It is what real politics is about.

t-Reset.pdf

A long quote from "Covid-19: The Great Reset":

1.2.3.2. The fate of the US dollar

For decades, the US has enjoyed the “exorbitant privilege” of retaining the global currency reserve, a status that has long been “a perk of imperial might and an economic elixir”. [51] To a considerable extent, American power and prosperity have been built and reinforced by the global trust in the dollar and the willingness of customers abroad to hold it, most often in the form of US government bonds. The fact that so many countries and foreign institutions want to hold dollars as a store of value and as an instrument of exchange (for trade) has anchored its status as the global reserve currency. This has enabled the US to borrow cheaply abroad and benefit from low interest rates at home, which in turn has allowed Americans to consume beyond their means. It has also made large recent US government deficits possible, permitted the US to run substantial trade deficits, reduced the exchange-rate risk and made the US financial markets more liquid. At the core of the US dollar status as a reserve currency lies a critical issue of trust: non-Americans who hold dollars trust that the United States will protect both its own interests (by managing sensibly its economy) and the rest of the world as far as the US dollar is concerned (by managing sensibly its currency, like providing dollar liquidity to the global financial system efficiently and rapidly).

For quite some time, some analysts and policy-makers have been considering a possible and progressive end to the dominance of the dollar. They now think that the pandemic might be the catalyst that proves them right. Their argument is twofold and relates to both sides of the trust issue.

On the one hand (managing the economy sensibly), doubters of US dollar dominance point to the inevitable and sharp deterioration of the US fiscal position. In their mind, unsustainable levels of debt will eventually erode confidence in the US dollar. Just prior to the pandemic, US defence spending, plus interest on the federal debt, plus annual entitlement payments – Medicare, Medicaid and social security – represented 112% of federal tax receipts (versus 95% in 2017). This unsustainable path will worsen in the post-pandemic, post-bailout era. This argument suggests that something major will therefore have to change, either through a much reduced geopolitical role or higher taxation, or both, otherwise the rising deficit will reach a threshold beyond which non-US investors are unwilling to fund it. After all, the status of reserve currency cannot last longer than foreign confidence in the ability of the holder to honour its payments.

On the other hand (managing the US dollar sensibly for the rest of the world), doubters of the dollar’s dominance point to the incompatibility of its status as a global reserve currency with rising economic nationalism at home. Even though the Fed and the US Treasury manage the dollar and its influential network worldwide with efficacy, sceptics emphasize that the willingness of the US administration to weaponize the US dollar for geopolitical purposes (like punishing countries and companies that trade with Iran or North Korea) will inevitably incentivize dollar holders to look for alternatives.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

That was a long post, way too long for me to reply to in full. But I do want to address this part.

They can't even get AI to do something simple like drive a car. They can't get AI to diagnose lung cancer by X-ray in India, like they sometimes kind of manage in the US. They can't even get AI to reliably train the same way when they take the same training data sets running on identical computers using identical software. Not even close. It takes a human at the end to pick the one out of 50 computers that looks like it has a reasonable result - in the judgement of the human.

And they're going to trust the planet and all of us on it to AI?

O.M.G.

What madness is this?

We have the unfair burden as the American Taxpayer to be the World Police. Most of us don't want to fund that.

Team Biden* does. He's putting all the GWB friendlies back in.

We'd have a lot more money if we weren't doing that shit.

Assuming that the rest of the world didn't just straight up come at us for revenge after we did so. We've fucked with a lot of people over the last century.

China is the right testing ground for this.

Sure... people are going to die. But you're never going to hear about it.

The amount of deaths by driverless cars will be insignificant to the amount of sacrificial lambs that Xi killed to get his bio-weapon test spread out in every crack and crevice of the world.

He already knows now that as long as Covid-20 has a long enough incubation time and doesn't kill the host immediately, he can have total world coverage after a few months. He also already knows that America is willing to cut off both of its arms and legs because it got a hang nail too.

If America is the World Police, it is the worst police force, ever. Have you heard of Vietnam or Iraq? That's not how you properly police a world. Then there is the 25 trillion dollars America has spent on nukes and bombers, missiles, submarines to deliver the nukes. This is especially crazy behavior because America cannot use those 100,000 bombs it built (most of that machinery has been retired). Why can't America use those nukes? Because America lives on the same planet as America would be nuking. You would think that Americans would notice that little detail, won't you?

Nuclear winter, the environmental devastation that certain scientists contend would probably result from the hundreds of nuclear explosions in a nuclear war. The damaging effects of the light, heat, blast, and radiation caused by nuclear explosions had long been known to scientists, but such explosions’ indirect effects on the environment remained largely ignored for decades.

But we are not in agreement on why America should not be the World Police. I don't think Americans have the sanity/mental stability to do the job. It is a job that needs to be done, and it is affordable for America, but the kind of Americans who become soldiers and generals can NOT be trusted to do the job right, despite them claiming over and over that they can do it. They cannot be trusted with weapons because they are too fucked up in the head and too ignorant and too incompetent at dealing with people who aren't Americans.

NOBODY is capable of doing that job. Not Americans, not anybody else.

It's a HUMAN problem.

One day instead of driving cars, AI will be a much better shepherd of such things.

Assuming we can live long enough to get to that point, and of course, assuming that we can somehow create a soft-spot for humans in the AI's emotion modules so they don't just wipe us out when they figure out what the real problem is.

But you're off topic again.

I'm not arguing if we should or should not be the World Police. I'm arguing that because we already are, and because the American Taxpayer is forced to fund that war machine, small "friendly" countries get a huge benefit out of it and can more or less live life the way they want to... something that is impossible for us to do now that we're in too deep.

Bullshit. It is problem that can be solved. Your defective people who shouldn't be doing the job? Don't let them become brain surgeons or soldiers! It is pretty obvious about the surgeons, but for some reason, mostly because Armies are popularly known for killing, not policing, it is not obvious that many American generals and soldiers should not be on a World Police Force. Most of those who sneaked into the Army should not even be allowed to carry a gun, and yet they are out policing the world. I sure hope Joe Biden doesn't believe he can accomplish anything useful with the typical people in the military. Joe needs to fire about 3/4 of his generals and 1/2 of his soldiers if he wants to police the world but I strongly doubt the Pentagon knows which half needs to go away and find a more suitable profession to earn their living.

Any takers?

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

I think this opinion-piece has the best overall explanation for what The Great Reset could be, and how it's supposed to work:

Quote:

Thorner: Global Currency Reset on the Horizon

By Nancy Thorner -

(Ms. Thorner expresses her opinions in her editorials, not necessarily those of Illinois Review)

The theory behind the Global Currency Reset is that the US Dollar (USD) would lose its position as a reserve currency because the US is overly leveraged and becoming less competitive compared to resource-rich emerging economies.

After all, the value of a currency is a barometer of people’s trust in the government and its ability to repay debts. If there is no trust, then you don’t have money. What you have instead is a collection of portraits of long-dead presidents.

According to James Rickard , via the Daily Reckoning in his article of 2/26/21, The Great Reset Is Here.

Rickards goes on to explain:

The Bretton Woods conference of 1944 set the global financial system that still prevails today.

The period 1969-1971 can be regarded as the First Reset, which involved the creation of Special Drawing Rights (SDR, ticker:XDR), the devaluation of the dollar and the end of the gold standard.

For years, commentators have discussed the next global monetary realignment, which is sometimes called The Big Reset or The Great Reset. [..]

You cannot put negative interest rates on consumers until you eliminate cash. Otherwise, savers would just withdraw cash from the banks and stuff it in mattresses to avoid the negative rates. Implicitly, the European Central Bank [ECB] seems to agree.

One of the ECB Board members says that negative rates (really confiscation) will be applied as a “penalty” against “hoarding” cash. In plain English, that means they will create digital money, force you to spend it, and if you don’t spend it, they will take it away as a “negative rate.

Now all of the pieces of the global elite plan are converging. The International Monetary Fund [IMF] Special Drawing Rights [ SDR] issuance will reliquify global central banks that cannot print dollars. Then Central Bank Digital Currencies [CBDC] will be used to eliminate cash.

More here

Is something really afoot?

On Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2020, the Feds systems, Fedwire and Fed ACH that allows banks to send money back and forth between banks in the U.S., went down for several hours but came back on online later in the afternoon.

The Federal Reserve outage occurred the same week Fed. Chairman Jerome Powell spoke to Capitol Hill legislators about other progress the central bank has made on its consumer-focused payments system and efforts to develop a "digital dollar." Powell said this will be "an important year for the program's development.

“The "operational error," as the Fed described it, impacted, multiple services, including its pivotal automated clearing house system, which connects depository and related institutions sending electronic credit and debt transfers. There were no initial indications that foul play was suspected.”

Credit card outages follow

Two days after the Federal Reserve closed for a few hours, on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, on Friday, February 26, 2021 there was a global outage affecting Visa and Mastercard ?, which lasted for most of the morning for anyone trying to use one of the cards to purchase anything, anywhere.

Following reports of credit cards not working, KELOLAND News looked into reported issues with Visa, Discover and Mastercard. All three services had seen spikes in reported issues throughout the morning according to downdetector.com.

Visa customers reported issues, primarily in the area of payment processing, with apparent spikes in Atlanta, New York and central Kansas, with 911 issues reported by 12:30 p.m.

Mastercard customers also reported an influx of payment issues, with reported spikes in the Dallas and central Kansas area. Customers had reported 184 issues by 12:30 p.m.

Discover customers had reported far fewer issues to the site, mostly revolving around their mobile app, but there has been a slight increase in issues over their baseline.

No longer speculation

It seems clear that something is wrong in the global financial system, even though the Visa and Mastercard outages were brief. As Stefan Gleason, President of Money Metals Exchange set forth in his article of March 2, 2021, The Great Reset Is Coming for the Currency. Excerpts follow

Plans that might once have been dismissed as pure speculation or conspiracy theories are now being openly pushed by people who occupy the highest levels of power.

Biden’s agenda for the economy is now being spearheaded by Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen. The former Federal Reserve chair has taken a particular interest in stamping out cryptocurrencies and expanding the reach of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) – which could ultimately be the issuer of a new global digital currency.

Yellen at the G7 Sumit of a few weeks ago, urged G7 finance leaders to “go big” with additional fiscal stimulus to recover from the coronavirus pandemic and told them that the Biden administration was committed to multilateral engagement and fighting climate change.

In principle, Yellen and her global central planning cohorts support the digitization of money. In fact, they are enthusiastic about the prospects for replacing circulating paper cash with digital tokens.

They just want to make sure those digits are issued and controlled by governments and central banks.

Treasury Secretary Yellen recently told the New York Times, “Too many Americans really don’t have access to easy payment systems and to banking accounts, and I think this is something that a digital dollar — a central bank digital currency — could help with. I think it could result in faster, safer and cheaper payments.”

“A central bank digital currency might also result in the imposition of negative interest rates or the automatic deduction of taxes with no way for holders to escape… except by exiting the dollar-denominated financial system entirely."

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell also told Congress that the Fed is indeed “looking carefully” at issuing a digital dollar, calling it “a high priority project for us."

One world currency on the horizon

It is a given that our nation is in the process of eliminating cash and the dominant dollar for a one world currency, just like the Biden administration is trying to take total control of information and every other human activity.

Rough times are ahead for our nation in so many ways.

So, I believe that the above opinion-piece needs to be unpacked and discussed. I found it while bunny-trailing my way thru the internet on

The concept and operations of SWIFT and what being sanctioned out of it means;

The China-Russia financial, economic and military "strategic partnership" and whether that extends to being prepared to be sanctioned OUT of SWIFT (China actually just completed a series of partnership deals with SWIFT - based in Belgium - so it is unlikely that China even CAN be booted out of SWIFT. It is my opinion that China will use the SWIFT to try and internationalize their yuan.)

The extent of US dollar (USD) reserves in foreign countries.

The adoption of official cryptocurrencies by various nations. (Well advanced in China, and being trialed or researched in many others including UK, EU, and Russia.)

*****

Whenever big changes take place, someone benefits and someone else's ox is going to get gored.

If the IMF/BIS switched to Special Drawing Rights (SDR) as the medium of international exchange and assigns SDRs on the basis of things like the amount of commodities a nation controls and its production capacity, then the USA is hosed and the USD will be devalued, leaving holders of USD reserve currency/ US Treasuries deeply unhappy. MANY unhappy central banks and MANY unhappy nations; unless the IMF refills their coffers with SDR.

If an official cryptocurrency is adopted in the USA, then many banks and credit card companies will be unhappy, unless the USA cryptocurrency is made to work with banks and other payment systems. I imagine that The Fed will try to keep systems running in parallel bc its member banks will howl with outrage otherwise.

Never been a big fan of cryptocurrency. If you store your wealth on your smartphone or computer disk, what happens if it crashes? If you exchange eletronically, what happens when the electricity fails or internet goes down?

I think it's a stupid system. But maybe that's what 5G is all about.

There was some dude in NJ I think who accidentally tossed an old hard drive that had his bitcoin(s) on it. I think he went dump-mining, but I don't know if the ever found it.

Anyway, this is my understanding:

Even our 'money' today mostly exists in bits. Various websites I've gone to estimate roughly 10% of US money exists in physical cash, while the rest is what they call 'ledger money'. As I've read, the difference is that currency is 'bearer money' immediately redeemable for exchange, while 'ledger money' is redeemable only at the discretion of the holder of the ledger.

The difference between ledger money and cryptocurrency is that the value of ledger money is agreed to by governments, and ledger money is held by large institutions where the amounts are publicly available.

Cryptocurrency is ... well .. crypto. If somebody has it, even a lot of it, it's not necessarily public knowledge. Who and how much are mysteries.

Anyway, I think cryptocurrency is too volatile to be a government-held currency. The value goes up and down wildly, depending on who's speculating in what on any given day. IMO, you might as well throw baseball cards into the basket.

So, another thread (about the co-option of "the left") caused me to realize that the great success of the transnational elites (in their drive to rule the world) was convincing people not just to hate others, but also to HATE THEMSELVES. So, in order to "end racism" white people should feel guilty for being white. Men should feel guilty for being men, and women should feel guilty for being women.
In order to "save the world" consumers (and that means everyone) should feel guilty for using fossil fuels, for eating meat, for even being alive.

That way, "the masses" (i.e. "us") can be convinced to voluntarily lower our standard of living, to off ourselves (economically) so the elites will have more for themselves. Their vision of the future is a world where "the masses" (i.e. "us") are told what to do by the "elites" (i.e. "them") - eat bugs and other substandard food, go cold and hungry, live a miserable existence- and we do it, in order to "save democracy" or "save the world" or what-have-you.

And the sad thing is, most people WANT to be told what to do. Most people meekly bow their heads, having been told (and accepting) that they are a scourge on the earth, parasites, "useless eaters" who would be better off not existing at all. And THAT'S because they have been conditioned by decades and decades of advertising to think of themselves as passive "consumers", not as participants who can actively better the world by repairing and preserving, committing to equality and opportunity, restoring the environment, rebuilding neighborhoods etc.

Where is the positive image of people making a better world? Where is hope?

As Chris Martenson so often says: "It doesn't have to be this way"

As much as I hate Davos, it's not a bad question.

I've been saying as much for years on these boards.

Overpopulation is the world's largest problem, and it's the one that nobody ever wants to talk about let alone figure out any solutions to.

There are ways to incentivize actions that would lead to a steady decrease in population that won't require genocide, large famines, an actually scary disease that kills a billion or two, or countless other horrible outcomes.

But as long as we never talk about the problem, it will be left in the hands of the Davos group to decide that for all of us.

They are the people in the shadows that people like me have been warning you all about for decades. Don't feel bad for not listening to us now that they've come out from the shadows. We're powerless to do anything against them now, and we would have been just as powerless back then too.

Oh, I agree that overpopulation is a huge problem. In fact, it's THE problem that's driving our other environemental problems. Well, that and the military.

But who is it that defines people as "useless"? The reason why people are "USELESS" is bc we've been automated out of the equation. Once people are no longer necessary to do the sweat labor so that the elites can live a life of luxury, then AFA "they're" concerned everyone else is redundant to their standard of living. Not only redundant, counterproductive.

So, what about viewing people as a SOLUTION instead of a problem? Why aren't people managing forests and replanting prairies and cleaning up the ocean and farming to add carbon back into the soil?

Because there's no money in it. Because the whole fucking bloody mess of a productive system has been geared by TPTB NOT to provide people with the necessities and some pleasures of existence, but to make a profit. So those who have jobs are slaving away at making crap that will break in six months or be outmoded in a year, is irrepairable or unnecessary. And those who can't find jobs are busy doing whatever they can to beg, borrow, steal or mooch just enough off the govt just to keep on living.

"They" have defined our future for us, and its a future where we truly are parasites. Why can't we grab our future back and re-prioritize where we put our efforts? We could make the globe a paradise on earth, if we wanted to.

Look at the effort that's necessary to fix up you house. Now imagine the work required to fix up the globe. Seems like it should be an "all hand on deck" kind of effort, not shunting people aside.

I'm not going to argue your points, Sigs, but my days of idealism are done.

People, generally speaking, aren't good. They're not evil either, but they're not good.

On an individual level, people are capable of both very good and very evil things. Sadly it's very easy to choose evil because evil is easy and evil is often fun.

A lot of people want to be useless. A lot of people want to have useless jobs.

You're never going to get people to be useful en masse unless something requires them to be useful. A drop in the world population by about 70% would do that. I can't think of anything else that would.

Shunning technology is never going to happen. Just try to take Cap'n's smart phone from him and see what happens.

People are malleable by the circumstace they live in. The problem is, our circumstances ... the roles we are allowed ... ARE defined by EVIL PEOPLE, bc the people at the top are truly evil.

If "people" (in the west, anyway. I can't speak for people in other nations) are so happy, why do we drink, drug, and eat ourselves to death at such phenomenal rates, and spend so much of our time distracting ourselves on social media, or with video games or passive entertainment?

It's bc the reality that we live in is not to be borne.

"People" like maximum reward for minimal effort, but "people" (and ALL mammals AFAIK) NEED to feel some sort of agency in their lives (to secure their existence in a real way), and all social animals (and that includes people) have an innate sense of fairness and desperately want to "belong" to something higher, or greater than they are. Social media feeds those needs, but it's like junk food- it's pretty poor nutrition for our innate needs, which is why we're so anxious, despressed and distressed so often.

I don't think I'm being idealistic about "people", I think I'm realistic. I think we'd mostly be a lot happier in a system that fostered meaningful work, a secure-able future, a greater good, and real in-person family, neighbors and friends to count on in times of distress. AND, yanno, entertainment and "days off". It's a balance. But you would never see that protrayed on TV, or anywhere. (When was the last time you saw on TV an intelligent working family or neighbors who discussed their problems and came to realistic solutions that they worked on together?? All you see are criminals and cops, heroes prone to righteous violence, or families so unbelievably stupid it's a wonder they survived a week.)

But we're actively prevented from that by a vanishingly small [evil] elite who control everything of importance. Especially how we see ourselves.

To beat the point to death - look at you, SIX.

You stopped drinking and hoarding. You're taking active measures to improve your life and insure your future (by increasing the value of your home). You help out your family, neighbors, and friends and, when they are able, they help you.

You've done that by rejecting the role of "low paid worker in a low-cost retail chain" "dedicated to consumption". And you're happier now, right? (You were fortunate to have saved enough money to live on, altho at some point you're going to have to re-engage with "the system" in SOME fashion in order to get more of that filthy lucre!)

Compare that to SECOND, whose only contribution to society (according to him) is being a rentier capitalist and whose only interactions with society are (according to him) hating most of the people he deals with and exploiting the remainder. Hasnt made HIM a happy camper, has it?

It took more stubborness than most people have to fight the system. But that's my point: people shouldn't HAVE to "fight the system" in order to live fulfilling lives.

*****

EDITED TO ADD: We are being ground down, SIX.

The chices we're given...

"Do you fries with that?"
Extra soft or extra strong TP? (assuming you can find it)
Vote for tweedledum or tweedledee?

... are so meaningless as to be insulting. Imagine instead that you had a real choice of jobs that all paid a living wage

Do you want to be a plumber, a forester, or a kindergarten teacher? (Or any number of alternates)
Do you want your city to have more trees, more cops, better drainage, or all of the above?
Do you want your country to wage foreign wars?
