I see you found the secret to posting to a title-less thread JSF!

This was a dup, possibly caused by a key bounce. Or maybe in honor of 20^2!

Anyway, well-meant and heartfelt!

Interesting. How did you find a 3-day old untitled thread?

How did YOU?

My 'puter shows all of the threads, even those without a title. But if it doesn't have a title, all it shows is the author and the date of the latest added post. However, if you can't click on the title, you can't actually see the thread content OR respond to it. At least, that's how my 'puter interprets and displays the website.

So, since (as far as I can tell) everyone can see that a thread was created but nobody could see the contents or respond to it ... not until I edited the thread and added a title called "DUP" ... how did YOU?

I'll tell you how I did if you tell me how you did.

Unh uh.

You first. I asked first.

However, if you decide to have me keep my secret by not revealing your answer, I can abide your wish.

BTW, your other thread has 77 views. This one has 83 now.

Ok, well, it was easy for me. Since I created two threads at almost exactly the same time (one by accident) - both btw originally with the same title - I thought to un-confuse the tangle by randomly grabbing one of duplicate threads and deleting the title, in essence making it inactive.

But knowing that they were created at almost the same time, all I needed to do was click on the thread with the title to call up the URL ... (spaces added to inactivate the URL) http: //fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?tid= 63438 and enter that URL in the address line, either adding or subtracting one from the key index number (63438) to grab the duplicate thread. Once I had the duplicate thread opened I added a title, just so people could access it.

What about you?

Sorry for the delay.

I saw an untitled thread with one single post which was dated 30 Dec. This thread.
I also saw that another thread had an OP time-stamped with the same time. Therefore, this thread most likely had a Thread ID number one higher or lower that the one which had replies. If it was a high post traffic moment, it could have been 2 higher or lower.

It was one lower. So I replaced the thread address of that thread, ending in 63438 with 63437.

Kiki: To find a missing post from, say, August 2017: Look in any sub-forum, others have less crowded index pages, find a thread which may have been posted around Aug 2017, and only has one or 2 posts in it. Write down the date/time stamp of that thread's OP, and the Thread ID number of that thread. If the OP is about a week earlier than the thread you are trying to find, add something like 100 to the thread ID (conjuring there may have been about 100 new threads per week in 2017).
Continue this until you whittle down the timeframe.

Also, the same thing can be done with your individual posts.

Start a reply. Look at the address, see the Message ID number (7 digits, this one is 1092837). The next person to make any post in any forum at fff.net will have MID=1092838.

Based upon the time stamps of the posts, you can find and locate each individual post. Yu can only edit the ones you created, but you can direct to any mid, and make a link for it as well.

You can still look at the posts of a thread without a title. Unless it is erased.

Let's see if these work:

http://fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?bid=18&tid=63437&mid=10928
27#1092827

http://fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?bid=18&tid=63437&mid=10927
37#1092737

http://fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?bid=18&tid=63437&mid=10918
37#1091837

http://fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?bid=18&tid=63482&p=1#10928
36

http://fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?bid=18&tid=63482&p=1#10928
28

http://fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?bid=18&tid=63482&p=1#10927
38

Clearly, I have forgotten part of the syntax secret. But find a post of mine where I directly linked to a specific post, the syntax should be adequate.

JSF: Clever lad!

I haven't bothered to go to the "reply" level to find the ID#, but it seems pretty clear how to. Thanks!

It may be more work than I explained. But if you find a post that you made on the day you are searching for, you can edit that post (add a space) and you can get the message ID # for the day you originally posted it. Then trial and error looking for the right number in the right thread to get you to pigeonhole the time and identify the particular number and timestamp.
Hope that makes sense. I am getting tired.

There used t be a way to link directly to a specific post without including the forum ID and thread ID, but maybe that no longer is the case. It always took me some playing around before I resolved it, each time.

BTW, your other thread has 117 views, this one has 217.

I may not have been clear. The message ID remains the same, even after editing. You can edit a post you made years ago, and it will still retain the mid number that was chronologically consecutive at the time and date that you originally posted it.

You likely cannot see the mid number in the address header during normal replies, because the mid number is assigned at the moment you actually post it. But if you make 3 or 4 posts in a short time, you can go back and make an edit (add a space) and look at the mid numbers, and see they are consecutive - unless somebody posted in between yours. Even if the post was in Blue Sun Room or Troll Country, the chronologically consecutive numbers follow the time stamp on the posts.
