Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

But I guess they were able to convince Trump of his place in the natural order of things, after all.

Trump v US intelligence: growing feud puts NSA's legislative priority at risk

Reauthorization of measure permitting sweeping surveillance in danger as intelligence community has been blamed for leaks about Trump and Russia

The escalating feud between Donald Trump and US intelligence is now putting the top 2017 legislative priority of the intelligence agencies at risk.

At the end of the year, a broad legal authority permitting sweeping surveillance is set to expire. The National Security Agency considers the authority, known as Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (Fisa), pivotal to fighting terrorism and stopping espionage. Civil libertarians consider the measure – the wellspring of the NSA’s Prism and “upstream” mass communications-data collection – unconstitutional.

The typical balance of power on Capitol Hill over surveillance is such that opponents of renewing Section 702 face strong political headwinds. The measure was reauthorized with minimal challenge in 2012.

Last week, as the House judiciary committee began hearings over the expiring provision, the Trump administration told Reuters it favors Section 702 reauthorization.

Lol. Trump vs. Intelligence.

But it does show some actual resistance. Now it's up to the rest of us. Don you black hat and prepare to defend freedom.

Years ago I read an interview with the black hats at a black hat convention. There was a sign, black hat convention, and there were these hackers wearing black hats.

Reporter: Where is the black hat convention
Black hats: We don't know.
Reporter: Where is the black hat convention
Black hats: We don't know.
Reporter: are you the black hats?
Black hats: No.
Reporter: Who are the black hats?
Black hats: There are no black hats.
Reporter: But you guys came here, right, for something?
Black hats: We're sight seeing
Reporter: Seriously, there was a sign out front, and you guys are wearing black hats and carrying whatever those gadgets are.
Black hats: We like hats.
Reporter: Is there anyone I can talk to?
Black hats: Go ahead. Ask at the desk. Maybe they know something.

With that in mind, this:

Yeah.... I guess some people might find out the hard way who's signing their checks. I'm sure the NSA will be just fine.

But that is a nice fantasy that they'd get de-funded under Trump, even if it was just because of his massive ego.

Trump was not on board with the spooks (/ military/ globalists/ DeepState/ neo-xxx).

The soft coup they ran against him - the leaks, endless claims, shifting narratives, multiple attacks against members of his team - which was successfully waged, let me add - was a preemptive strike to maintain legality, access, and maybe even funding.

AT THE TIME, I (and SignyM) noted that it seemed like the deep state was behaving as if it was in an existential fight - a literal fight for its very survival. The sheer volume and intensity of unverified claims looked like a desperate attempt to get something to stick. And if not that, to get the thousand cuts to work.

This may have been why.

Ahhhhh, who's to say who Trump is or isn't on board with? It's kind of why I'm reserving my judgement of him for at least 6 months to a year before I start really having any opinion about him, unlike the MSM and the Pro-Trumpers and Never-Trumpers.

You seem to have nailed it with the "thousand cuts" thing. Assuming this isn't all just Political Theater, that's exactly what has been going on since November 9th.

Anybody else think it's funny how the MSM has backed way off of Trump...? It kind of happened like a day or two after I said something would happen and this would be the result.

T and G and Second seemed to have calmed down a bit too. I don't imagine that's because many of their own opinions have changed all that much in the last week or more. I'm assuming it's because, at least for the time being, the MSM has been sated and has moved on to other stories. T and G and Second just aren't constantly being triggered by the talking heads right now.

Any big celebs die or get married or come out of the closet this week? Maybe Kaitlin Jenner had a sex change and now wants everybody to call her Bruce? Surely there has to be something big to fill that massive void that the MSM has left in their wake?

I don't know what Trump is going to do. That is one of the reasons I voted for him. It may turn out that he does exactly what Hillary would have done and what Obama and GWB did before him? I'm still holding out hope that this isn't the case.

Or Trump suddenly caved in to the deep state.

Did you notice that his sworn enemies- McStain, CNN, NYT, MSNBC, Graham, and the rest of the warhawks are suddenly lauding Trump? No more RUSSIA! RUSSIA! RUSSIA! in the media, NO MORE LEAKS, no more constant-yammering-hysteria? Suddenly, the cone of silence on the topic?

Trump became President last night Oh, not the day he was elected??? Disgusting and sickening of the media. Assholes.

I wonder... will the various "investigations" into "Russia's role" in our elections, and "Trump's ties to Russia" die a quiet death? Will the media faucet of hysteria be shut off for good? Or will the deep state and its complicit press turn on the taps again, if Trump should stray off the path? And will the masses once again believe the press if it should pull a ANOTHER U-turn?

I'd like to think Trump isn't part of the scam that's been run on us since forever. But his 180 was swift and forceful. And I wonder if MOAB was an example to him that he shouldn't count on the military to be under his control.

For now I'm assuming that he's joined the other side.

1kiki,

I agree. MOAB was called, "hey, we have a back channel, you're not really in control. Love MOAB and admit privately that we own you, or admit you have no power"

I'm also on the wait and see. I have no doubt everything you say is true. Still, how much they own him matters. In the end, Reagan and Bush Sr. weren't owned enough by them which is why they created Clinton.

I try not to group users. It's obvious who has been listening to the filter, and not arguing with the filter and just listening to the signal is really the key. To everyone on the filter I'd say listen to the signal and leave it at that.

I think that if all the deep state wants is to continu to survive, let it. Black hats will be the ones who take it down. They're too far behind on the tech. Assange is spilling all their secrets, and he's the the mouse they can see. They have a full scale rat infestation they don't even know is there yet.

OH WAIT! I must have been dreaming.

It's just more of your trolling.

Care to try addressing the facts, again?

Who's paranoid? I got nothing to worry about. I'm just about as low profile as you can get and I'm a threat to nobody. Even if somebody noticed that maybe I'm a little more "woke" than they'd like us to be, who am I going to influence?

Thanks for noticing how some people's opinions seem to directly follow the MSM. The minute the MSM turns a topic off, so does their attention. As soon as the deep state turns it on again, so will they. How is it that they don't remember the narrative -literally- from week to week? That what they were so fervently railing about last week suddenly becomes a NON-ISSUE this week?

It's a puzzler!

I know - how'd we get so *lucky* to get stuck in this forum with these brainless slugs?

World events actually do change. Investigations actually do run hot and cold, and then hot again. North Korea - a country with nukes - actually had a holiday that has in the past been a day they like to show off, and they actually did try and launch a missile that could threaten the US in the future. I'd call that news worthy, maybe the slugs don't?
And they keep forgetting or ignoring, that the MSM is a business, and giving the people what they want helps their bottom line, especially if it's wearing a mini skirt. The next shiny thing is always going to seem more interesting to a large part of their audience.

The next shiny thing seems to be what you pay attention to.

Dollar-denominated debt? Guess what- it's still a problem, even if a miniskirt just walked by.

Our proxy-jihadist fighters in Syria? Still committing atrocities, even if your attention is fully distracted by N Korea.

You're being distracted on purpose.

The world doesn't change that fast where happened yesterday becomes irrelevant. Just saying.

There is an investigation going on morons. Several as a matter of fact. They continue as you two try implying, because they are not front and center in the news, they have gone away. What it means is that they are being done professionally. Not being tweeted about by a moron. The Russia thing continues fools.

You are lying and deflecting from things that have gone unreported, because you're to stupid not to. Nothing new about that. It is settled that Obama did not tap Trump.

Of course they're still going on. We just don't have Maddow talking about it for an hour every night to her briandead collective. At least I can assume we don't since you haven't been posting about it. Your reply here basically confirms my suspicion. Look at that, I don't even have to watch the news to know what narrative they're spinning for the day.

You're my bullshit barometer T.

I wouldn't be so sure that the Obama administration is in the clear about the wiretapping. You're just picking and choosing which narratives to believe in based on your own biases there. You can't say one thing is still ongoing and another one is dead in the same post... well I guess you can actually believe that.... but anybody with half a brain sees the flaw in the logic.
