The greatest expert Tracker Mal and Zoe have ever seen, all around good fighter, excellent shot, owner of Vera, master of thrillin' heroics - not to mention Hero of Canton, and occupier of his very own bunk, not forced to share.

Played by Adam Baldwin, considered by many to be the veteran of film in this series.

It would be nice to identify an incident of Series and also DBM Serenity.

When I conjure Jayne's interaction with the crew, what comes to mind is "let me do the math: zero and zero, carry the zero..." from Pilot Serenity, as well as "Saw that coming". But a key reflection of the character is his pleading to Mal "Don't let them know what I done" in Ariel. But my favorite scene for Jayne is also revealing of his character, and how he wants to hide this from the others: in Pilot Serenity, while Kaylee is being worked on in the Infirmary, he crouches alone, outside the portal window, intently watching the happenings inside.

For the film Serenity, one that really comes to mind is he got a harpoon through his calf during the escape from the Lilac heist, and nobody mentions it again for the duration. During Lilac, he yells out "MAAAAAAL" so Mal complains about every time they do a heist, he needs to call out my name for all to hear.

What are your favorites?

No contest - the scene in "Jaynestown" when the crew discover that folks in Canton might, they just might remember Jayne Cobb...

MAL: Jayne?

JAYNE (stunned beyond words): Yeah?

MAL: You want to tell me how come there's a statue of you here looking at me like I owe him something?

JAYNE: Wishing I could, Captain.

MAL: No, seriously, Jayne, you want to tell me -?

JAYNE: Look, Mal, I got no ruttin' idea! I was here a few years back, like I said. Pulled a second-story, stole a lot of scratch from the magistrate up on the hill. But things went way south...I had to hightail it. They don't...put you on a pedestal in town square for that.

MAL: Yeah, except I'm looking at some fair compelling evidence says they do.

SIMON: This must be what going mad feels like.

WASH: I think they captured him, though - you know...captured his essence.

KAYLEE: Looks sort of angry, don't he?

WASH: That's kinda what I meant.

And then the song (which I sang at Redemption '15 after several bottles of my equivalent of Mudder's Milk)...oh, that song!

Priceless!

Somehow I forgot to mention, also during Ariel, and not reflecting in any way part of his character, "We applied the cortical electrodes..."

That may be his funniest line in the whole series.

Jayne's eagerness to "do good works" in Bushwhacked.

And "I was aiming for his head" in The Train Job.

I loved how that after Jayne collapsed, no one actually checked on him, they just continued the conversation over his unconscious body.

"That's why I never kiss them on the mouth."

"My John Thomas is about to pop off and fly around the room there's so much tasty here." I actually used this one in real life. 'Course the reaction I got to it was "What the F### did you just say?"

They do seem to have a special, unique relationship.

I've seen some ask if Adam is, in effect, much like Jayne - and some have complained that they think Adam is too "Jayne-y".
I have been recalling some lines from Jayne which seem to highlight his keen perception at times, and in certain circumstances. As a real-life conservative, these keen observation mirror what reasonable people view in situations where many are succumbing to whatever Fake News (aka Libtard Facts) is prevalent.

Saw that comin. I'm not sure the others did see it coming, but Jayne surely did.

Let's do the math. Nothin times nothin carry the nothin...

Not my fight. But he eventually joins in the fun.

Aww, you're not supposed to give up that easy - aren't you trained to be Alliance agent?

Oh, yeah, somebody might need help (BW, the derelict ship which may have something valuable to salvage)

A bunch of them now escape me.

Grenades cost extra. War Stories.

When recalling this in my head, Adam's delivery does not cause me to consider double meanings.

But reading the script allows me a different take.
They are talking about the apples that Jayne bought a crate of - and they're all eating them.
Zoe finds the concept chilling, Jayne sharing with them.(this beginning of WS is following the end if Ariel)
And the Grizwald grenades that fit inside apples.
And he says they cost "extra"
And Jayne bought the crate of these apples they are eating.

I understand - unless he's changed affiliation - that Adam is registered as a Democrat. He does like to play obfuscate and poke the bear [GG].

I'm trying to remember now.
Was "coulda woulda shoulda" a 2001 phrase, or did Jayne infect the populace with a quotable?
If Jayne was not tbe first, then it was a 2517 copy of a 2002 saying - which is normally avoided in stories of a different time.

Anybody know the answer? Hard to isolate real world references from 15 years ago.

Having recently watched The Last Ship season 3, I recalled that Adam had been somewhat typecast as a tough or hard guy during his career, and not prone to emotional outburst or display. There were some scenes in TLS ripe for emotion, and Adam was able to portray the appropriate expression, while maintaining his Military Bearing.

But in all the other roles I recall of him, he does not have that outlet. I don't recall any in Chuck, but I may have missed them. His most recognizable role before Firefly may have been Independence Day.

So perhaps this is the reason that 2 scenes which resonate regarding Jayne are (not My John Thomas or I Could Stand To Hear More) are the Pilot Serenity scene where Kaylee is in the Infirmary surgery, with Jayne crouching outside the viewport watching, and BDM Serenity surrounding the My Turn declaration of River.
The Don't Tell Them at the end of Ariel was similar, yet a bit different in context - it wasn't him seeing another in a way completely disconnected from him, like the 2 I mentioned.

I've been thinking of the show with different perspective or insight lately.
We've heard that Jayne was supposed to be killed off in Ariel, or War Stories because of Ariel.
And Jayne has already had the feature episode Jaynestown. Nobody else gets an episode focused on them like that.

So for those familiar with Joss' tendency to kill off key characters, does he oft give them a feature episode just before tbe killin?
