At WHOZIT's recommendation, I moved this to "Other Sci Fi", but nobody posts there.

Sure, The Walking Dead and Fear of are other shows, but my personal issues with them are very topical in nature.

I'd like to see what people in RWED have to say about Fear of the Walking Dead, and my idea to merge two popular shows together for the greater good. :)

It's got its good points and its bad points, but overall I just don't think it makes for engaging television, and more importantly it doesn't deliver what it could have. I think it's too late to go back and do it right. I have a suggestion about how to fix that... and it involves an entirely new cast.

Not only is FTWD pretty boring, but in 2015 with all the technology available to us it is completely unbelievable. By the third episode there are problems with electricity and cell phone signals, but nobody had a Facebook or Twitter account leading up to that point? The only somewhat realistic thing that happened in the events leading up to people outside of government officials actually realizing there was a problem was the kids not going to school because they were sick. On the last day they went to class, the principal even asks the bus driver if he missed a few stops when only 5 kids get off the bus. Even this realistic scenario was handled so poorly that it just adds to the absurdity of the story.

You'd have to assume that some of these kids were really sick, and the others were made to stay at home by their parents out of fear of the virus. This is almost a "chicken and egg" type paradox. If nothing was happening to be afraid of, why would the parents keep their kids at home? On the flip side, if this illness was spreading, wouldn't people have already died by the thousands and started to try eating their family members? Forget the fact that we already know that once the fevers start death follows very quickly... but people must have already been zombies because people don't just "get sick"... They either turned when something else killed them, or they got sick after being bitten. This isn't an airborn pathogen.

I get that the writers wanted to show a Government that was trying to cover things up, but are we really supposed to pretend that in 2015 news of this wouldn't have spread immediately? Think of the stories of social media in 3rd world dictatorships...

Facebook and Twitter don't even make an appearance in this world. Aside from cell phones and the occasional text message, you couldn't be blamed for thinking the backdrop to this show was L.A. in 1987. There is only one video of a guy being gunned down by cops online that everyone is passing around and made the news? Even then, people aren't focused on the right things... This video scares some of the main characters, but the rest of L.A. seems to focus on the Police Brutality aspect of it.

So.... Here's my suggestion on how to fix the show...

Firstly, kill off every single stupid character they made. Which is every single character on the show. Don't apologize for it. Wipe the slate clean for a new cast. If there's one thing the writers of TWD know how to do very well it's that Quintin Tarintinoesque time jump thing.

Secondly, work with the producers of "Kevin From Work" and ABC on the rights issues involved and blend both shows together. Not just the actors and the characters and the premise of KFW, but get the writers and the directors from both shows in the same room to come up with a great story.

If you haven't seen Kevin From Work, you're actually missing some pretty good TV. I'm not much for today's technology myself, and it's been a while since I've been in my 20's or had an office job, but even with all the new technology available today I find the stories to be very relateable to what I remember office life in my 20's were, if not a little over the top.

Although i like Kevin's self-absorbed sister Roxie, her most annoying trait is taking selfies all the time and saying things like "hashtag OutShopping". It may be annoying, but it's a lot more "Real" for the 25 and under demographic than anything we've seen in Fear the Walking Dead.

I know this would never be legally possible, and there would be too many egos and other conflicts in the way, but even if it wasn't a "great" show, it would be an unprecedented Television Event everyone would remember years from now. I don't know where FTWD is going next season, but I'm pretty sure wherever it goes that will be the last season they do of this mediocre spin-off and that nobody is going to remember it even happened.

My only hope is that before it's thrown into the trash-heap of horrible spin-offs that it doesn't do what the 2nd two installments of the Matrix Trilogy did to the original masterpiece.

You should have posted this under the "other sci-fi series" thread.

I didn't even know we had one of those here.

Can I move it?

This thread should have remained here from the beginning, although having re-written it a little and put more thought into it, I ended up having a new perspective on some things.

I know it takes a lot of suspension of belief for a lot of people to even watch a show about zombies, but that's no reason for lazy storytelling and sloppy writing.

I'd like to know what the people in the RWED think about this show.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Jack - I had high hopes for the show. I like a number of the actors, not least of which was the actor playing the drug addicted son, thought he was great. But, I completely agree with you: "lazy storytelling and sloppy writing." This same evil polluted the original Walking Dead. Writers and producers are to blame obviously, and I'm sorry to say that because in the long chain of creativity that's necessary to pull these kinds of shows off I respect them the most.
It feels like they are trying to:
A. be way too clever and too deep and falling short.
B. pad the show so it will run for 5 seasons

I will definitely give them so more time. It's tricky to pace something like this, the beginning of the end, and tell meaningful personal stories at the same time. Right now I don't care that much for many of these characters.

The ACTING was GOOD!

I don't blame the actors at all....

I thought "FEAR THE WALKING DEAD" was going to give us some insight on what happened before Rick woke up. Instead, it's just a super fast track to a parallel story. The ONLY difference here is that instead of being in the deep south, we got a bunch of mixed marriages and it's "Progressive". Otherwise, it adds NOTHING new to the lore when it could have been something really special.

On top of that, as I said in the other thread, they actually have made great strides in RUINING the original series with their sloppy storytelling.

I'm glad you replied G...

I'll honestly ask you to read what I said about it in the other thread that I moved it to and hear your opinions about that.

I'm not joking about "Kevin (From Work)". If you were to kill nearly every character from the first 6 episodes of FoTWD and merge the show with Kevin from work, you'd have a pretty badass show on your hands.

I'd love to see what you and other people from the RWED think about that. :)
