The liberal GOP leadership is apoplectic about the possibility of Government Shutdown, even though most of the American Electorate gave them that power on November 4th. This election mandate followed about 10 months after the shutdown credited to Senator Ted Cruz (of Canada, IIRC).

1 Ford, Sep 30 - Oct 11, 1976. 10 Days, house and Senate under Democrat control.
2-6 Carter, 1977-79. 12, 8, 8, 18, 11 days; House and Senate under Democrat control.
7-14 Reagan, 1981-87. 2, 1, 3, 3, 2, 1, 1, 1 days; House and Senate under Democrat control.
15 Bush41, Oct 5-9, 1990. 3 Days, House and Senate under Democrat control.
10 Clinton, Nov 13-19, 1995. 6 Days, House and Senate under Republican controlled Contract With America to reign in Spendaholic Slick's waste.
11 Clinton, Dec 5 1995 - Jan 6 1996. 21 days, House and Senate under Republican controlled Contract With America.
12 Obama's hissyfit, Sep 30 - Oct 21, 2013. 16 days of Barack Hussien's temper tantrum, House under Republican control and Senate under Democrat control.
