Who want's to listen to Jay-Z tell you once again how much of a genius he is, or pretty much everyone else in the game today stealing old music and talking in their unusually annoying voices about their sexual conquests or their sad little drug "empires"?

Who gives a shit, first of all, and who wants to subject themselves to that sonic hell?

I mean, I get it. When I was a youth I listened to a lot of shit that I wouldn't be able to listen to today. There's no way that a few Rob Zombie songs would be on my knockoff iPod if they dropped their debut album in 2014. Some songs by Tupac, I believe, still would be though...

I'm probably just getting old. I'd rather listen to something that has some lyrics with meaning and is sonically beautiful as to be almost addictive. It's probably not a coincidence that 9 out of 10 songs I enjoy today are performed by a female.

I just heard this one today at work for probably the 100th time, but I made a point to look it up from lyrics I could make out.

I'm glad I did. I love it.

See though Brenda?

I can't stand Kiss.....

Chances are, overall, that we like a lot of the same music though.

There are actually quite a few rap songs that are great, as well as songs made by head bangers in the 80's.

Remember the 80's when somebody who liked this song....

Also loved this song....

Never have been much of a rap fan. There are a few here and there I like, but it's rare. That said - I can't stand the narcissism that stands in for lyrics in the genre these days.

I really think SM that the longer we talk to each other the more we're going to find out that we agree on a lot of stuff.... lol

You hear it all the time, but I almost challenge any rapping youth to give me a reason why not to do it when Jay-Z still feels the need to let us know he's a genius at least once in every song he does, even though he's got more money than god and is married to Beyonce.

I can't stand the man.

Sure, Tupac did songs like Picture Me Rollin', but it was a song about making your dreams come true by believing them, not force feeding how awesome he was down everyone's throats all the time.

He just strikes me as a big fucking man baby who just lucked through life always being in the right place at the right time. Even now that he has the fame and fortune to back up everything he ever wanted from life, he still is just a little boy who never really worked for anything and rode on luck.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

I want to just reply "Sure, if you're a close minded asshole", but what could I ever hope to accomplish by doing that?

I could probably offer up a better example of "Good" Rap, but because there are actually more examples than you probably would ever imagine, I'd like to offer one of my favorites....

"Change? Shit.....

I guess change is good for any of us....

Whatever it takes for any of ya'all niggas to get up out of the hood....

Shit I'm wit 'cha. I ain't mad at 'cha. Got nothing but love for ya.

Do ya thing boy."

Yeah.... most of the song revolves somewhere in that dark area you mention in your post, but if you actually listen to the lyrics and walk a mile in another man's shoes, you'll realize that this is a song about love for your brother and rising above whatever shit-hole you were born in. At the same time he was calling out guys like Jay-Z 2 decaded before he became a narcissistic ass.

Not all rap is bad. If you liked this, or need more examples, I got plenty of other songs for you to peruse through.

If not, That's cool too. I ain't mad at 'cha ;)
