I've been blessed with more than a few excellent bosses in my many different jobs. That opinion may be up for debate, but I have to say that in one way or another they were excellent to me. Whether it was the maximum "merit increases" or the lack of repercussions for me calling off when I had one of my "bad days", to my current ability to dictate my own schedule, I've been blessed.....

As my current manager has said, I've "earned it".

For the first time in a few years I really have hope that I'll be in another position that I enjoy equally as much as my current one, but it will allow me the financial freedom to make the major repairs to my home and replace the moldy old camry with a slightly used pick up truck. (Health Insurance and a 401k plan would be nice too :))

Promises made that were broken leave me in a position where I'm still on government benefits. I'm "poor", but I still don't dip into credit. Yeah... it was great to live off of 10k Net one year and not use a credit card. It's even nicer to make about 4k more this year and be able to finally put gutters on my house and do some major things.

I'm just tired of buying all of my shirts for 50 cents at Goodwill and my jeans for $3.50. I'm tired of not being able to justify paying for basic cable. I'm really tired about not being able to sleep at night knowing that I went out with a girl and spent (gasp) more than 20 dollars to have some fun.

My boss has a Masters degree. He's extremely frugal like me, and he's also in a position that's seriously below his pay grade and abilities. We really "get" each other.

It took him 2 1/2 weeks to get it back to me, but he completely re-wrote my resume based off of the info in mine and the skills and work ethic he has witnessed in the last 2 years. Seriously, it's a Goddamned Work of Art. Period. Awesome.

I've always considered myself a good writer when it comes to short stories or English assignments since I never got a B or less in any English class, but I've always hated my resume. It was always far too verbose (go figure, right?)

He's having me apply for a 2nd job in two weeks now, and we've made sure I've done everything to get an OSHA certification for the Forklift.

3 months ago, the only thing I saw in the future was the promotion that never came....

Now my boss is bending over backwards to get me into a position that I deserve even though he knows that he'll be losing a key employee.

That's a good boss. Not the boss that knows how to talk to you and manipulate you into doing more work. The type that truly wants to see his or her truly excellent employees exceed in life.

I don't know if I'll get one of these first two jobs, but I know as long as I'm really trying to get a job he's going to keep looking out for me. One of these days the pieces of the puzzle will finally snap into place.

I'm admittedly HORRIBLE when it comes to looking and finding a new job, and I largely rely on others to get me into a good position. I think I finally have the person to give me the inertia I need to succeed.

Honestly, I think he's more pissed off about me getting screwed than I was. :)

I think A LOT more bosses are actually like my current one than you'd imagine. What you really have to do is really get to know them, and depending on the work environment you might have to do it in a way where you're not labeled a kiss ass by your peers.

I still talk to 3 of my old bosses, or at the very least we share emails back and forth on occassion. No doubt he'll be the 4th that I never lose contact with.

He's big into politics and his son is in working for a department in charge of deciding where grant money goes for programs developed to give a leg up to people in need. His dream is to head up a small organization where he can help young black males succeed in this world. He grew up in the "ghetto" and understands why so many black males don't get educated because they're either going to be a rap star or play professional basketball......

I'm a goddamned white boy.. :)

This little push he's giving me now might be the very thing I needed to succeed again.

I can't even imagine what he'd be able to do if he got a $100k/year grant and was able to quit his BS job and mentor 5 to 10 black kids a year that grew up without a father and were just floating around lost....

I try to bring that up everyday to him to keep it fresh in his mind. I think I want to see him get out of this job more than he wants to see me get out of it.

I'd be honored if he used me as a personal reference that wasn't a relative or he ever worked for if some government agency was asking questions before handing over grant money.

I'd like to think think that I'd be able to give them half as eloquent a review as I'm sure he'd give for me.

Working hard is very important, but don't put all of your eggs in that dead-end basket alone. Branch out and get to know the people you work with, especially the people who are poised to get you ahead if you end up liking and/or respecting each other.

Networking is Key.....

Every Great Job I've ever had I got because I knew somebody.

Every Shit Job I've ever had I found on my own.....

Good Luck to everyone.

I Know times are quite shitty for a lot of us.

Here's to us all moving up in the world :)

MEANWHILE.....

Everyone in the RWED is focusing on negative shit and not doing a thing to improve their personal circumstances....

Living in the past sometimes is awesome.....

Usually though, not.....

Do Right, Be Right. :)
