On March 12th, 2014, Austin Ruse (head of the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute, or "C-FAM"), filling in for American Family Radio's usual lunatic, Sandy Rios, more than lived up to her standards by insisting that "the hard left, human-hating people that run modern universities" should "all be taken out and shot."

Hopefully, it does not need to be explained to anyone why Ruse's comments are out of line and should not be welcome anywhere in the public forum.

If nothing else, the Catholic Family & Human Rights Institute must now either disavow Austin Ruse or remove "Human Rights" from their title. Under no circumstances whatsoever is it appropriate to call for an ideological opponent to be murdered. http://www.examiner.com/article/austin-ruse-liberal-university-profess
ors-should-all-be-taken-out-and-shot?cid=rss

When his remarks got attention,
Quote:

He took to Twitter to call liberals "dumb" and "stupid" before ultimately deleting his account. Ruse then opened the radio show by taking aim at the critics who he said "have their panties all in a twist" about his comments.

“The pajama boys over at Right Wing Watch have their panties all in a twist about what I said, and I sometimes think that the left is really dumb, these are the low-information voters that make all of these mistakes when they get into the ballot box and all of these mistakes as they go through their lives and one of the reasons is because they are so dumb,” Ruse said. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/austin-ruse-liberal-professors-s
hot-apology

While he's all pissed off at Right Wing Watch, the initial quote comes from the Nonpartisan Politics section of the Examiner, and the story can be found at the Baltimore Sun ( http://talk.baltimoresun.com/topic/249021-c-fam-austin-ruse-says-left-

), MilitaryPhotos.net ( http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?236406-Catholic-Gr
oup-Leader-Calls-For-Liberal-Academics-To-Be-Taken-Out-And-Shot
) and other places. Guy apparently didn't grasp that what he said was just plain offensive, period.

American Family Association got it, tho', and eventually, he did apologize:
Quote:

American Family Association Cuts Ties With Austin Ruse After He Called For Professors To Be Shot
Quote:

UPDATE: Even though Austin Ruse spent yesterday’s broadcast insisting that wouldn’t back down from his comments that left-wing professors should be “taken out and shot” because he wasn’t serious and his critics are all “dumb” “pajama boys,” today he told Talking Points Memo that he is now sorry:
Quote:

“I deeply regret and apologize for using the expression 'taken out and shot' on the Sandy Rios Show this week. It was not intended to be taken literally.”

Austin Ruse, who regularly filled in as a guest host for American Family Radio’s Sandy Rios, has lost his gig after we reported Wednesday on his call for liberal professors to be “taken out and shot.” Ruse is a leading Religious Right activist who heads the Catholic Family & Human Rights Institute (C-Fam) and is a writer for conservative outlets such as Breitbart News and The Daily Caller.

The day after we posted the audio, Ruse lashed out at Right Wing Watch and defended his comments. Yesterday, Ruse deactivated his Twitter account and the American Family Association, which runs American Family Radio, removed audio episodes of the Wednesday and Thursday broadcasts from its website. On today’s edition of Sandy Rios In The Morning, AFR host Dan Celia filled in. On its Facebook page today, AFR said that Ruse “is no longer on the air with us and will not be filling in on AFR in the future.” http://www.pfaw.org/blog/brian-tashman

I'm sure there's equal outrage to this then, right ?

I'm guessing , from his words, that Planned Parenthood would be next on his list to execute ? For the sake of future millions, right ?

Professors shouldn't be shot, at least not before they're given an opportunity to mend their ways and atone for the damage they've done. Six months in a re-education camp seems about right; then the wheat can be separated from the chaff.

Keep the Shiny side up

So once again, any loony who can set up a website and rent an office is a "Catholic leader"?

Any evidence as to how many Catholics these nutcases lead?

Probably not.

Quit the hate, NIKI.

EC, it's interesting that Geezer is trying to characterize C-FAM and Ruse by snarking that "any loony who can set up a website and rent an office is a 'Catholic leader'". I guess he wants everyone to think C-FAM is some obscure little group and not important enough to notice. They're not.

C-PAC certainly doesn't think so, as they had Ruse as one of their speakers. There he attacked the U.N. resolution protecting people based on their sexual orientation and gender identity in United Nations studies on violence and execution, arguing that such a resolution is “just the nose of the camel under the tent” and he lashed out at supporters of LGBT rights, maintaining that “their theory of international law is that it’s done by lying, coercion and trickery” ( http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/cpac-austin-ruse-condemns-effort
s-stop-violence-against-lgbt-community#sthash.nZ4TaW7e.dpuf
).

The U.N. doesn't consider them "loonies with a website", either, apparently: "Austin Ruse is the president of the Catholic Family & Human Rights Institute (C-FAM), which recently won “special consultative status” from the United Nations as a non-governmental organization (NGO).
Quote:

Ruse or his team have participated in every major UN social policy negotiation since 1997 including the multi-year negotiations that created the International Criminal Court. ( http://c-fam.org/en/austin-ruse)

C-FAM is considered by some to be "one of the most powerful anti-choice, anti-sexuality groups lobbying at the UN" ( http://paper-bird.net/2013/09/09/austin-ruse-wants-to-take-your-childr
en-c-fams-fake-family-values
/); they, of course, support Russia's new anti-homosexual law. He's a big fan of Putin, and his group has worked hand in glove with Russia at the U.N. on anti-gay issues and others:
Quote:

At the UN Human Rights Council in recent years, Russia has pushed for, and passed, a resolution on “traditional values” and human rights. The initial Russian draft, Austin Ruse has written approvingly, “could easily have come from the pen of Tony Perkins at the Family Research Council”; http://www.thecatholicthing.org/columns/2012/following-the-russians.ht
ml

He's definitely a player at the U.N.:
Quote:

His tactics included packing UN meetings with supporters – sometimes priests and nuns — who intimidated women’s and progressive groups, and in some cases virtually staged putsches in NGO spaces. “We attended all of the women’s meetings and essentially took them over,” he boasted. “Memos were going back from [conferences] in New York to governments in the European Union that radical fundamentalists had taken over the meeting, and that was us.” http://paper-bird.net/2013/09/09/austin-ruse-wants-to-take-your-childr
en-c-fams-fake-family-values
/

Ruse has also denounced the U.N. committee report that attacked the Vatican’s handling of clergy-abuse cases ( http://www.ncregister.com/daily-news/a-clever-ruse-foils-u.n.-ideologu
es
/)

Nor does our government see them as just loonies, apparently:
Quote:

(Ruse)has briefed members of the U.S. House and Senate on U.N. matters, as well as briefing White House and National Security Council staff. Ruse has also briefed senior government officials, journalists, Church and non-governmental leaders from around the world. Same

I probably should have put "Catholic" in quotes, 'cuz some certainly other Catholic groups find them despicable, too ( http://catholicsforequality.org/c4eblog/shameful-rhetoric-catholic-fam
ily-and-human-rights-institute-c-fam
), but they aren't just a bunch of "loonies with a website", not by a long shot. I don't hate them, but I, too, find their words and actions reprehensible.

From the very use of the word " anti-choice ", the Left sets out to obscure the entire conversation.

Yet all the quotes about his involvement are either from folks who want to make him look like a meaningful opponent (like you do) or his own website.

Sorry, but the guy is a loony who has some loony friends and enough money to show up at conferences and make noise.

Truly pathetic bullshit "fail".

Try Breitbart: http://www.breitbart.com/Columnists/Austin-Ruse (three pages of his columns for them)

or C-PAC:

or the U.N.: http://www.un.org/News/Press/docs/2014/ecosoc6591.doc.htm

Just three sources "conservatives" take very seriously.

I think you should quit while you're behind.

The Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute (C-FAM) is a United States-based research institute focusing exclusively on international law and policy. ... C-FAM's Board of Patrons includes Lord Nicholas Windsor, Mary Ellen Bork, Robert P. George, Leonard Leo, and Hadley Arkes.

Its current president is Austin Ruse, who writes a weekly column for Crisis Magazine and The Catholic Thing, an online publication launched by Robert Royal and Michael Novak. He is also a regular contributor to Breitbart.com. In July 2013, Ruse was identified as a key member of Groundswell, a coalition of conservative activists and journalists attempting to make political change behind the scenes

Looks like a kook with a socially acceptable conservative megaphone at Breitbart.
