Sigh. Record breaking high temperatures and dry, dry, dry. Plus fire danger. IN WINTER.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

I think I'm going to have to get used to it.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

And more for this week, and next weekend. My garden was happy LAST weekend. This weekend... not so much. My seedlings cratered... AGAIN.

I'm thinking I may move north. I'm going to have to look up where it's supposed to be cool and damp in the next couple of decades. I really don't like this heat. And I miss that we never got a break from it this winter, and barely got any rain.

My deepest sympathies to you both. We're still supposed to go on VOLUNTARY water rationing, but these last few rains have brought our reservoirs back up, I haven't had to water anything for weeks and the hills are FINALLY blushing green. Our morning sulky runs have been an absolute joy as a result, and the fields are MASSIVE with yellow mustard on our Santa Rosa runs. Went exploring yesterday on side trails of the main Santa Rosa Creek Trail we run and oh, my, it was nice...

Here's three minutes of how nice the rains have made it up HERE...sooo lovely to see green again!

If you move North, Kiki, make it North of California. It's better here, but our average temps have still gone up the past few years and we've had more drought, and it'll only get worse as time goes on. From what I've read, the Pacific Northwest Proper is supposed to increase in precipitation, so maybe Oregon or Washington will fare better, so maybe that's where you should look...

Bummer man.....

It's been paradise around here. No higher than 30 degrees at noon and dipping into the negatives at night, every night, for the last 4 months.....

Over 91% of the Great Lakes were iced over on Friday. Just less than 1% shy of the record since civilized mankind bothered to keep track.

Today is awesome though! I can actually walk around my house with nothing (and I mean nothing) but a t-shirt on and I'm comfortable.

F.... owning your own place is awesome. Why wear clothes?

Beautiful day here in Long Beach, high-70's flirting with 80, and a little breeze, so it's not ruttin' HOT, but it is plenty warm. Supposed to be another storm coming the end of the week, but I'm planning to leave my winter jacket home when I go to work tonight.

And short-term, that's lovely, but it is still early March. bodes no good for the brush fire areas and other concerns. If we don't get several more storms, it's a long haul 'till next rainy season.

Niki

That was a lovely video - it was like a mini-vacation.

I appreciate all your answers. I was wondering what the old-timers who've been in one place for a few decades have noticed about the weather over the long-term.

My experience here in foothill So Cal over the last 25+ years is that it's drier, hotter, and more erratic.

Yup, pretty much what I've observed Kiki, and we bought our home here almost 40 years ago. I probably wouldn't have noticed as much before that, 'cuz I was brought up in the Santa Clara Valley and that's much dryer and hotter than Marin, but my memories of rainy Winters up here are pretty vivid, when it seemed like we had flooding and slides and stuff every Winter, so it's noticeable.

And I agree with Brenda; if you're migrating North, I'd make it at least Washington. I was kinda surprised, that graphic I put up in the other thread, to see that even further North of us is in worse drought status than we are...my memories of lots and LOTS of rain up by the border (spent time up there at Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park in my late teens when Paula was a ranger there). So obviously they're part of it, and this "increased precipitation in the Pacific Northwest" means even MORE "North"...

Glad you enjoyed the video (I make 'em for the urban mushing group I'm with when I find a new trail they might like...and the Dog Carting group, where there are other sulkiers). I THINK you'll find that it starts at least sprouting green down by you pretty soon...it took a couple of weeks for us after we finally got some rain for it to start, so I'll hold a good thought for you. :o)
