Even liberals hate Harvey Weinstein

Quote:

“Harvey Weinstein, a monstrous and violent bully who has hurt hundreds of people with his frequent rages and sociopathic lack of concern for the emotional or physical well-being of anyone with less power than himself.”

He placed then-New York Observer reporter Andrew Goldman in a headlock and dragged him out of an event Goldman was covering. “You know what? It’s good that I’m the fucking sheriff of this fucking lawless piece-of-shit town,” Weinstein said at the time.

After calling director Julie Taymor “the most arrogant person I have ever met” at a screening of Frida, and instructing her to “go market the fucking film yourself,” he turned to her companion and said: “I don’t like the look on your face. Why don’t you defend your wife, so I can beat the shit out of you.”

He leveraged Gwyneth Paltrow to pose for the cover of the inaugural issue of Talk magazine in a ludicrous S&M get-up. “There were certain favors that he asked me to do,” Paltrow later said about the shoot, “that I felt were not exploitive but not necessarily as great for me as they were for him.”

He once screamed at Democratic operative Terry McAuliffe, “You motherfucker! I’ll rip your balls off!”

In a dispute with the producers of O, he threatened to release the film on “1000 poorly venued screens at inopportune times with no public relations support” if he didn’t get his way.

He badgered Sydney Pollack, one of the producers of The Reader, as Pollack lay dying in an effort to get the film released in time for Oscar consideration.

I don't think he's a liberal.

He's a liberal, but like most Hollywood libs he lives like a conservative but raises mega $ for Democrats. The reason no one likes him is as your story says, he an awful human being.

So, in your definition anyone who raises a lot of money for the Democratic party is "a liberal"?

Does that include bankers?

So bankers, Wall-Streeters, and wealthy H-wood producers are all liberals? OOC, what is your definition of "liberal"?

No, seriously.... what does it take, in your opinion, to be included in the category of "liberal"? Because while a lot of liberals are phony, not all phonies are liberals. (I can find phonies everywhere, even in the Tea Party.)

Just out of curiosity, what's yours?-geezer

Someone who wants a kinder, gentler capitalism. (So that capitalism will survive indefinitely.) Wow, that was easy!

What's yours?

SO you're not a liberal, then.

It doesn't have one definition. Liberal is more like a swear word in the Tea Party. For them, Liberal equals Libertine, one devoid of most moral restraints, which are seen as unnecessary or undesirable, especially one who ignores or even spurns accepted morals.

No... I mean..... SERIOUSLY guys and gals.....

Harvey Weinstein is so above politics.

He wouldn't even piss on this conversation if it were on fire and spreading to the drapes in his guest house. Tomorrow morning, he'd call the cops and his insurance guy, make or break a few more young people between lunches, and just pretty much be awesomely untouchable until it was repaired for free.

If you want to talk about a Fat Liberal Hollywood DBag, keep it in Michael Moore territory. Mike won't hate you for it. In fact, Mikey likes it. He signed up for that public abuse and got a fat paycheck for it. Any righty or lefty that considered HW a Liberal is ill-informed. He's not Conservative either.

For somebody in his position, making a choice between Right and Left is a foreign concept. It's not that they aren't aware of A and B, but they just don't pertain..... Kind of like Love and Hate, Pain and Pleasure and Right and Wrong.

There SERIOUSLY is such thing as TOO RICH.

The "richer" you get, the more easily detached you are from things you should care about like family and friends. I'm sure he has a thousand friends, each with 100 more friends too. One friend for every 10k of his net-worth. Everyone is your friend when you're always throwing parties with an open bar. Try to stop this phone from ringing!

I don't even know the guy, or much about him, but I funded a two year party at my first apartment and "on the road" working a job, naively unaware that I was around some very rich older guys and saw what they did when they thought nobody was watching. These were great guys, as far as I was concerned. I was paid well and had health benefits and got a free lunch 2 days out of 5 at least.

I still don't know what really happened, or who said what about who. I didn't read it. It broke my heart to see it happen personally. To watch guys I believed were best friends wear wires and shit on each other. I just skimmed headlines and saw names of people I'd shook hands with.

Fucking sick. I've washed my hands 3,000 times since those days but I'll never wash that filth off.

It's not their "evil deeds" I'm talking about. Like I said, I didn't read the paper. It's knowing that I had trust in rats.

They all paid the time. Reading the paper was like reading a list of the 30 or so people I ever met in my life who wore a suit everyday.

People who I knew were lifetime friends..... reduced to freakin dominoes falling over each other.

SPOILER ALERT:

We're all fucking rats, given the right motivation. We can even find a way to rationalize our betrayal all away. If you haven't already lived out one or both sides of it, it's the end of Orwell's 1984.

My advice to people is DON'T get rich.

The older I get the more I realize this to be the secret of life.

No rich family ever grew up close.

It's easy for some kid to tell his brother to F-OFF for life when he's living on a trust fund and going to college for free. It's not so easy to tell your sister to STFU when she's helping pay the bills.

My somewhat-well-off family is splintered in a million pieces. It wasn't like that when I was 3 or 4. Even my parents were still married. Everyone was still married, and we had huge family parties every year. Decades later, my holidays are usually spent with the "forks" of my immediate family.

At the same time, my poor family roots never splintered off like that. Sure, they were never as motivated about anything, nor were ever as tight with each other, but after all of their arguments they would always lend each other a hand if asked. Not one single person on that side of the family EVER missed a funeral/wake for any reason.

Bottom line.....

In my experience, poorer people are more inter-connected people. They might have a lot to bitch about, but they do it together.

Ain't nobody but a real idiot gonna try blackmailin' a poor person.

We're half-feral to those rich, snooty, country-club types.

I think a lot of us here would excel in a world where we couldn't go to the local chain to get dinner. There might be a butcher on the block that deals with the hunted deer and squirrel, but you might be waiting a while if you're looking for the weekly mailer to show up at your doorstep.

Am I still crazy if I think I might be crazy?

I'm not sure what the current stand on that topic is :)
