It's about how Capitalism works BEST (and also worst), and how it might once again be made right.
And it's also entertaining to boot.
Just saw it on Netflix.
See it, or face my smiley-filled wrath!

In your opinion, when exactly was capitalism " right " ? And at which point did it stop being so ?

I've just watched a half-hour+ of Dr. Reich's interview on Democracy
Now. Because that's what I can get right now.

Many of the economic inequalities in the USA are obvious to me, as
they are to you. But understanding Wall St., investments, banking
(+predatory lending, selling off bad loans, and all the other tricks
of the trade) is very uphill to me.

Whenever Reich says that our 1% "overlords" should wanna pay the
workers more, so that they can buy more from the Rich ... that, of
course, is too obvious. It would help everyone.

We have a pretty large percentage of Americans in the poverty class
for generations now. Crippled by what? Their own low expectations,
lack of intelligence, laziness? ... I can't even begin to answer that
one.

It seems to me that nowadays, the middle class is also seriously
crippled ... I feel this was done to them intentionally by the 1%.
Now we're all "peasants," with the great majority (farmer class)
busting their butts tryin' to get back to what was normal.

Ever since the crash, I've been saying, "O! They're taking us back
to Feudalism."

... oooOO}{OOooo ...

I've given up looking for the meaning of life. Now all I want is a cookie.

Creepy.

Absolutely spot-on and applicable to the reality we live in today.

But not surprising.

My sister is a hippy anarchist rebellious artistic... fill in the rest here. I don't know how to describe her anymore than that. Point is, her son was a total square for most of his formative years purely in reaction to her.

Youth rebel against their elders. That's what they always do. We have entered an age of technology and logic and science. The youth will rebel, will fall in love with Beavis and Butthead, and the weak-minded will never grow out of it. But I think Carl Sagan wasn't seeing the whole picture. Let the kids rebel when they need to, let the idiots fall into the gutter and never get out. Society is having its eyes opened.

OK, so maybe we're as likely to destroy ourselves as we are to survive and evolve. But if we do muddle through, the future could be pretty damned cool. I can't explain that statement in any brief way, but I fully believe it. Holy cow, what we could achieve if we get over this moronic destructive phase... I wish I could live long enough to see it.

I don't mean to suggest that I'm up to such a level, but it's like what Francis Bacon was all about. He knew he was living in the Dark Ages and an Enlightenment might be just around the corner. Poor guy. Wish he could see what we have today. He'd shrug at the Tea Party/Faux News morons and say: Nice job getting this far folks. Keep up the good fight.

1. The 1% has corraled nearly all the money ... and they're not so much

Chris: "how it might once again be made right."

2. The Dumbing down of America has been incredibly successful. Does that
need its own thread?
I'd planned to do a 2nd post: The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America

Trickle down is part and parcel Reaganomics. Cut the tax rates, trickle down follows. They are planning to survive while the rest of us die on this degrading

Maybe they weren't wrong, at all. 7 billion slaves is a bit many to keep
track of.

(We could all start riding horses, bicycles, balloons.)

Logan's Run is one.

Domes. I can't even touch their fictional history. Haven't domed
cities & farms with controlled weather always been a staple of sci-fi?
Some real ones may already exist.

Saffron returned to Mal & offered a job on the planet Balerephon ...
estates are islands in the sky. Islands in the Sky, Arthur C. Clarke,
1952. As sci-fi was well started in the 50's, I don't suggest that
Clarke invented the 1st sky-floating habitats. However, for now,
space stations can be habitats, as they don't require antigravity.

Cities in Flight, James Blish.
Not gonna talk about all the underwater cities ... those scare me.

Some writers always just assumed we'd fix everything up to suit
ourselves. Technology would make it all possible.
