Mars fatwa strongly denies Muslims a one-way trip to Mars

Emirates' General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowment Muslims (GAIAE) means that Muslims can not travel to Mars, even if they want to. A fatwa ( a legal pronouncement in Islam) so dictates, arguing that it would be "a real risk to life" and they likened it to suicide, which is forbidden in the Koran, as detailed by the CNN news organization on Feb. 25.

The Mars fatwa was issued by the Directorate General of Islamic Affairs and Endowment in UAE, in response to the draft of the Dutch company "Mars One" to send four people on a one-way trip to the red planet in 2022 and begin a settlement there.

“Such a one-way journey poses a real risk to life, and that can never be justified in Islam,” said the GAIAE committee. “There is a possibility that an individual who travels to planet Mars may not be able to remain alive there, and is more vulnerable to death."

More than 200,000 people have applied to be selected to travel to Mars and not return. Experts, however, have questioned the financial viability and practice of the mission.

Ahmed Shaaban of the Khaleej Times reported on the news of the Mars fatwa from the GAIAE, the highest Islamic authority in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), against the journey of human beings to Mars. The fatwa issued by the committee has stated that a trip to the red planet was prohibited by Islam.

These Mars volunteers need a better rocket fuel than liquid hydrogen. Aren't they capable of imagining how to improve rocket engine technology? Their first task before Mars should be building that better engine.

But it all depends on their attitude toward expedition deaths during the heroic age of Antarctic exploration. Maybe they have a pathological need for a high school named after themselves and memorial statues like Robert Falcon Scott's. But anyway, yeah, there actually IS a taboo against suicide in the Koran. All the nutjobs who train suicide bombers are actually deliberately going against the holy word. You can't become a martyr by being a suicide bomber. The corrupt rich bastards are lying to impoverished disenchanted young Muslims to feed their own political agendas because they're too frightened and cowardly to fight with honour. So instead they're just throwing out a bunch of cannon fodder. It's actually pretty sad.

Don't worry Muslims, us atheists can handle it. You can go to Mars when we build something awesome.

I'm a bit confused, as there was talk of some Islamic group wanting to build a mega Mosque on the moon.

That's probably where Obama was hoping to make headway w/ the Muslims, I suppose.
