Obama's 'Climate Hubs' to Help Farmers Survive Global Warming

Quote:

Barack Obama is to announce the establishment of "climate hubs" to help farmers cope with the effects of climate change.

A White House official confirmed the president would announce seven climate hubs that will help farmers in rural communities adapt to increasingly extreme weather due to climate change.

They will be information centres that will provide farmers with data on how to handle climate change-related risks, such as fires, droughts, floods and pests.

Hubs will be set up in Iowa, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Colorado, Oklahoma, Oregon and New Mexico. As well as these, "sub-hubs" will be set up in Puerto Rico, California and Michigan.

A White House statement said: "Sub hubs will support the hub within their region and focus on a narrow and unique set of issues relative to what will be going on in the rest of the hub,"

The move is a signal Obama is committing to his pledge to make climate change a top priority for this year. He signed an Executive Order on Preparing the United States for the Impacts of Climate Change in November last year, making it easier for communities to improve their resilience to extreme weather and impacts of climate change.

More central planning from our glorious leader. Like farmers can't watch the weather channel for themselves. Now they need specialized " info centers " from the govt to help them deal w/ a 100% fictional problem.

Hell, why not just build prayer towers around the country ? Or govt run classes to help teach proper techniques in rain dance rituals ?

THIS is why I'm so anti the AGW cult. It's pointless crap like this which is siphoning off $ from hard working Americans to utterly POINTLESS govt programs, and nudging the public into relying more and more on doing what ever the hell BIG GOVT tells us to do.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Because the changing climate is such a non-concern to farmers, and big data is of so little help, that private industry would never think to offer the service and nobody would even think to make money off of it. Clearly a worthless failure!

Monsanto Buys Weather Big Data Company Climate Corporation For Around $1.1B

Quote:

Today’s big acquisition is a huge agritech exit: Biotech company Monsanto has bought Climate Corporation for approximately $1.1 billion. While the Monsanto press release says $930 million, we’re hearing from investors that the actual price is past the $1 billion mark, because part of the all-cash deal will be paid out over time as an employee retention plan.

Climate Corporation is backed by Founders Fund, Khosla, Google Ventures, NEA, Index Ventures and Atomico. The company uses machine learning to predict the weather and other essential elements for agribusiness.

Predicting the weather is pretty important to farmers. No one has ever denied that. But why is the Federal Govt investing millions into that which really can't be changed ? Why does Obama feel the need to compete with private business ? That's a colossal waste of tax payer money.

And Siggy, I see you're knee jerk reaction to anyone who doubts the lord master Obama is to call them a troll, and " stupid " , because you really have no other reply.

The climate isn't changing any more than it ALWAYS has. But you continue to distort and misinterpret what others do to justify the intrusion of Big Govt into every facet of our lives.

Oh, and the bottom line ? NONE of that $ spent will have 1 damn effect on the climate or how farmers tend to their crops. Just more of OUR $ thrown down the drain.

@ Jongs - What in the hell is that suppose to be ???

Surprised that you don't know. I'm not going to explain it, but trust me, the picture and caption are very relevant to the topic. This is after all a sci-fi website.

I recognize a young Don Johnson, but beyond that, I'm lost at the context. Seems applicable, though.

Ok ... it's a still from "A Boy And His Dog". The ruling authority wanted to harvest Johnson to alleviate their seeding problem.

The title rings a bell, but I don't believe I've had the pleasure (?) of viewing that one.
