Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Heard about this one coming home in the car today:
Quote:

The former Port Authority official who personally oversaw the lane closings at the George Washington Bridge, central to the scandal now swirling around Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey, said on Friday that “evidence exists” that the governor knew about the closings when they were happening.

A lawyer for the former official, David Wildstein, wrote a letter describing the move to shut the lanes as “the Christie administration’s order” and said “evidence exists as well tying Mr. Christie to having knowledge of the lane closures, during the period when the lanes were closed, contrary to what the governor stated publicly in a two-hour press conference” three weeks ago.

During his news conference, Mr. Christie specifically said he had no knowledge that traffic lanes leading to the bridge had been closed until after they were reopened. “I had no knowledge of this — of the planning, the execution or anything about it — and that I first found out about it after it was over,” he said. “And even then, what I was told was that it was a traffic study.” http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/01/nyregion/christie-bridge.html?emc=ed

Then present it.

Saying it exist does not prove it.

Well, it's obvious he wants to be the first in line to "sing" before other canaries present themselves. It's about to hit the fan.

Christie's statements in that press conference will come back to bite him. There's also the manner in which he ran his ship, preferring to talk in person rather than via cell or text, email. Having his staff use personal e-mails rather than official government accounts. Being a former prosecutor he knows all the tricks, and has fashioned an almost fool-proof way to legally steal.

Notice I said almost fool-proof.

My guess is that it's real estate related and not so much political. Remember, he was a former prosecutor and has mastered the various illegal means of obtaining wealth (lessons he learned from his investigations) and has applied it liberally in his position as governor. By the way, the NJ governorship has the most powerful form of running a state in the U.S.
What I mean is the governor's power is damn near more like a king than any monarch from our European cousins across the pond.

The people he can appoint, monies appropriated etc. All perfectly legal, except of course what he's be doing, which is extending his titles and holdings into federally protected territory. His greed and avarice will be
his downfall. The Bully of Trenton is about to be exposed.

Evidence indeed points to a control freak who micro-manages his office like a Swiss clock. Precise timing. His controlling of the Sandy funds, for one.
Using federal monies to dole out to his cronies districts and withholding from those that actually need it. Rubbing elbows with the president to make it seem he was the friend of the democrats - a genius move to get the votes
(like i said, he almost had me fooled too).

Yanno, this offends me almost as much as the corruption itself...

I despised Ollie North, but when it all came crashing down he kept his mouth shut and fell on his sword, because he had a certain integrity, even if in a despicable cause, and I can respect that.

These days, the perfidous little weasels can't WAIT to rat each other out, each trying to climb faster over the others to squeal, it's sickening, it is.

Yep Frem, it is sickening. But Jersey politics is a strange different kind of bedfellow (I'm not making excuses for them, it's just an observation).
What's truly ironic is that Christie, as a Fed, fought corruption and evildoers, cleaned it up (so they say) and now finds himself embroiled
in a sordid turn of affairs that makes the Mafia look like amateur hour.

The thing that really irks me is that Wildstein seems to be withholding evidence to further his cause for obtaining immunity. He's out there playing poker with the Feds and Jersey Assembly.

My take on all this: No way Christie didn't know anything.

Still though, you gotta think of it this way. These guys wouldn't last a minute in jail.

The latest news out of Trenton is that Bridget Kelly is pleading the 5th, and Christina Renna resigns (she resigned on Friday, but her attorney released a statement on Sunday during the Super Bowl). She claims she was under no pressure to resign and that it was in the works since the governor's reelection. Great timing on her part.
