JENNA LEE: One of the things you both agree on is maybe looking at minimum wage, and Art, you have an idea for minimum wage that you think could encourage hiring and it involves state government so what is that plan?

LAFFER: Yeah, well the minimum wage makes no sense whatsoever to me. I mean, honestly, it's just the teenage -- black teenage unemployment act and this is the very groups that we need to have jobs not be put out of work because of the minimum wage so I'm really very much in favor of at least for teenagers getting rid of the minimum wage so we can bring them back into the labor force, get them the skills they need to continue being productive members of our society for years and years. I mean, that's the way I'd go on minimum wage.

Note that he actually had to stop himself, back up, and insert the word "black" into his argument.

Why? Simple: He doesn't believe black teenagers have any inherent worth to their work, or certainly not as much as WHITE teenagers would. In other words, he views black kids as being inherently worth less than other kids.

Maybe he should team up with that Nevada dude who wants to vote to bring back slavery.

In other words, Laffer sees that the min wage hurts , not helps, black teenage kids. Seems he's saying they have equal worth, not less worth, than white teens.

Good for him.

Man, Troll REALLLLY had to twist that one to make it come out the way he wanted, didn't he? Poor little thing... He's not even trying…

So the minimum wage is just the "black teenage unemployment act" is it? Wow, we never knew.

They just feel free to say about anything these days, don't they? Shocking.

STORYMARK

Its the kind of red-meat argument custom made for those who buy into the fallacy that raising wages cuts jobs significantly. But he's pandering to a base that routinely feeds on confirmation bias.

The funny thing is, Laffer was actually on his way to making a point - one that could be debated, no doubt, and one that I disagree with, but an actual point to be discussed - and then he had to back up and add the word "black". If he'd just called it the "teenage unemployment act", we could have a discussion about whether that's a valid point. Instead, he had to bring out his belief that black teenagers have inherently less worth to them than white teenagers, just because of the color of their skin.

If this is hurting black kids only, then shouldn't we be asking why the "job creators" (overwhelmingly white) are so afraid to take a chance on black kids? I thought "job creators" in the capitalist system were unafraid to take a risk and strike out on their own to make their fortunes. If so, wouldn't they be falling all over themselves to tap into such an underserved labor pool as the black teenager represents? After all, if nobody will give black kids a chance, there's a serious market for any employer who does, right?

But according to Laffer and his friends, that's only valid if they can get black kids at a cut rate.

That sounds remarkably close to slavery.

No " group " has been hurt worse, economically, under Obama's 2 terms.

...

Get them the - minimum wage skills - they need to continue being productive members of our society - in minimum wage jobs because that's all they're trained for - for years and years. Only don't pay them! Sure to be a popular and useful program for inner-city youth.

And if they don't participate, something else they could do is arrest all the other kids, and incarcerate them, and put them all to work in a state sponsored labour program. We're already so close to pulling that off, we could make it part of the curfew laws.
