There will be a massive shortage of fossil fuel and society will break down. Gangs dressed in bondage gear will roam the highways stealing petrol from innocent travellers. Oil refineries will become battlefields and the forces of chaos and order fight it out for control of this precious commodotity.

Hang on, that's the plot of Mad Max 2; The Road Warrior. Silly me, I got confused for a moment.
