FWIW - Both me and Radley Balko have been keeping watch on the sickening prevalence of cops killing peoples pets, usually dogs, just cause they can, and I figured that sooner or later someone would take issue with it in a lethal fashion.

Kinda sucks that I hadda dig up the damn Daily Mail for the most detailed account, as all the american papers simply copy-pasted the AP news blurb cause they couldn't be bothered to do any more, geeze.

Now I dunno about the legalities specifically of responding to a domestic versus come-back-with-a-warrant, but I *DO* know that when you're threatening folk and their pets with a weapon who haven't done more than tell you to GTFO their property, you're way out of line.

While the report says taser/stungun, as witnessed in the "don't tase me bro" thread, many of those damn things can easily be mistaken for firearms even at close range, and when the police chief explicitly stated "Shoot the Dogs"..
(Which, knowing cops, was probably a part hissy-fit-temper-tantrum at being in any way balked and probably ACTUALLY "shoot the fucking dogs!", but since THEY write the reports..)
At that point Hitcho hauled out the shotgun he'd been holding behind the door and let officer Lasso have it.

Honestly I dunno how I feel about Hitcho, I mean the guy was a mean old bastard for sure, but I can certainly understand what he did, and I have little sympathy for Lasso either - anyone with even half a brain knew it was eventually going to come to this as soon as cops started murdering peoples pets as a proxity-punishment against them much in the fashion tasers are abused, and deliberately provoking someone who was essentially sticking to a constitutional right was out of line, especially when diplomacy and de-escalation wasn't even attempted in favor of "okay so lets murder his pets" out of spite.

Then again, I guess imma mean bastard too, cause if someone punted my cat, they'd be getting a crotch full of 12G rubber ball shot in response before I even thought about it.
