Louisiana Sen. David Vitter, already bruised politically for failing to adequately explain why he continued to employ a staffer who was arrested for threatening to stab his girlfriend, is now facing heat over his apparent support of investigations into President Barack Obama's place of birth.

"I personally don't have standing to bring litigation in court," Vitter told voters in Metairie, Louisiana Sunday. "But I support conservative legal organizations and others who would bring that to court. I think that is the valid and most possibly effective grounds to do it."

Vitter was also handed bad news late last week when former Louisiana Supreme Court justice Chet Traylor announced he will challenge Vitter in the state's GOP primary. Traylor told CNN Monday that while he had been considering a run since last summer; it wasn't until the last two weeks that he took another look at the race, after being flooded with calls urging him to run.

Some of those calls came from within the GOP Louisiana establishment, Traylor noted.

D'ya think they'll EVER get past this, or will they still be screaming "conspiracy!" five Presidents from now?? Will they ever turn into a party, or just work to stay a joke??

Pelosi Angry Over White House Midterm Prediction

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs on Tuesday walked back earlier statements that Republicans could "no doubt" win control of the House this November, but that wasn't enough to placate House Democrats angry about the remarks.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats took aim at the White House in a closed-door meeting Tuesday night, according to reports, arguing that Gibbs' comments will hurt the party's campaign efforts in an already-challenging midterm election year.

"How could [Gibbs] know what is going on in our districts?" Pelosi said to other Democrats Tuesday night, Politico reports. "Some may weigh his words more than others. We have made our disagreement known to the White House."

Pelosi reportedly grilled White House staffer Dan Turton, the top White House aide at the meeting, about the impact of Gibbs' comments. Such pessimistic remarks, the thinking goes, could dampen enthusiasm among Democratic fundraisers. (Of course, it could be argued that such comments could actually encourage donors by stoking concerns about a Republican takeover.)

He didn't "threaten" to stab her - he STABBED HER, in the hand, and then held the knife to her throat, a wound which required eight stitches. He pled guilty to the charges. As a consequence, Vitter put him in charge of "women's affairs" on his staff. And by "women's affairs", I don't mean Vitter put him in charge of arranging hookers for him. Or diaper-changers.

Does it come as some surprise to anyone that the Republicans *could* win the House this November? They *could* win the House in November of every even-numbered year. They don't, but they *could*.

Yeah, what Pelosi and the pundits missed was, I believe, him saying MATHEMATICALLY they could always take House or Senate...but tonight the pundits are saying it was a "wake-up call" from him to the Dens.

Who knows? Who cares? It will play out eventually, whoever predicts whatever.
