Forget that BP is putting up $20 Billion, the economy sucks and this thing will be on the ultra-low rated CNN, how much money do they think they're going to raise? I choose to put my faith in the American people. Telethons work; whether all the money goes to the end destination or not, I think people will open their hearts to their fellow Americans. It will be HARDER to get money as time goes on, as the immediate situation is upsetting most people and over time they'll get more used to it.

But there are thousands of us out here who want to help, and for those who can't do so personally, to me it's just like you guys raising the money for me to go. It will make people feel like they're doing SOMETHING, however small, to help. We'll see.

Charities spring up between the American people and any disaster. If you apply a little nieztchian world view to that, you realize that the worst crooks out there definitely *would* disguise themselves as charities to intercept those funds.

One can be sure where the funds go and how they're used if one looks closely at the particular charities' financial statements. Always best to do that, because of course, humans being what they are, scam artists move in immediately.

I updated the situation in a thread whose title starts out "Update" further down the list, DT. Thanx for asking. Still working hard on it, and learning things that make smoke come out my ears. Have priced hazmat suits, breathing gear, etc., but, well, you'll understand why I haven't bought them yet if you read the thread.
