A nice interview with our Wash in SFX, with plenty of Alan goodness and a scene he pitched to Joss:

Ha, that picture leading the article's great. Also, enjoyed the description of the new character he's playing. Oh these people. Such a sense of humour.

Shadow puppets!

It is fun seeing how into the characters they all got, asking questions and even coming up with their own ideas about backstory, or scenes they could do. Almost every interview someone says "I really would've liked to have done something like this," and then they go on to describe something mind meltingly awesome.

I think there’s a lot of fan fiction on that thing, I think it lends itself to people coming up with new ideas.

Ha. Yeah, even from the actors and the show's writers. ^_^

Poor Wash.

I also liked hearing him talk about Alpha, because he was great there. He was 2008 Joker levels of evil bloody hilarity.

Shakespeare? Really? Why is it I suddenly get this vivid imagining of Joss and everyone at one of those Ren-faires or the Shakespeare festivals?

...Suddenly really have to draw a picture of that.

Good article.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Great interview! Thanks for posting the link.

Alan Tudyk is a hilarious, crazy-ass genius. I thought his prison tat idea was fantastic! I do believe that Joss would have centered an episode around each of his Firefly characters had F*>< given the show the right attention that it so well deserved. Hopefully without stepping on the Serenity pilot’s toes I wrote a little preview of his idea and expressed it below.

Firefly episode 18 “Wash Day”

Malcolm Reynolds and Zoe are in the small village of Salisbury on the planet of Regina for a three day recon mission before pulling off a bank heist in that town. Serenity is harbored down in some lonely hidden valley until the captain & Zoe get back.

*************************************************************************************
Scene 3/ the setup; Jayne & Shepherd Book are lifting weights in the cargo hold just killing time until the captain returns. Book excuses himself after a rigorous workout with Jayne and heads to his bunk. Wash wonders in while Jayne finishes his last set of bench presses.

“Wash care to sit in a set?” Jayne laughs at the lanky looking Serenity pilot. Wash, tired of the big mercenaries ridicule announces……..

“ Sure!”

He removes his shirt and for the first time Jayne is witness to a coverless Wash sporting a multitude of prison tattoos. The big mercenary swallows hard as he recognizes tats from some of the worst places in the verse.

A silver star on Wash’s left pectoral muscle representing incarceration on Silverhold. The tat 17 ji shu ( 17 and counting) on his right hip just above the beltline showing the number of deaths he’s responsible for, and a tat of a guard hanging up-side down on his left shoulder blade, representing that he has killed a prison guard. There are other tats too, Wash’s whole upper body is covered with them, but Jayne doesn’t recognize them all. Still, he is so flabbergasted that he can not speak and is taken back with the expressed symbolism feature upon the pilot‘s semi muscular frame. He is astonished.

Before they can actually begin lifting weights there comes a message from the captain for them to prepare for his and Zoe‘s return. Wash puts his shirt back on.

The episode continues with Jayne’s respect level for the Serenity pilot becoming so evident that the rest of the crew pick up on it. There are jokes aplenty and Jayne even starts referring to Wash as “ my buddy”. Shepherd Book even smiles, knowing full well what is really happening. At the end of the ep it is revealed that the prison tats were none other than washable ink drawings applied by River onto Wash’s body as a joke to curb Jayne’s constant harassment of the Serenity pilot and are washed off with a cleaning cloth by Zoe.

An infuriated Jayne plots revenge against the Firefly pilot that will surface in future episodes 24 & 66.

Just my take on things. Alan Tudyk has quite the imagination. This episode coulda been very fun.

If folk get a chance to see Alan in his new movie comedy “Tucker & Dale vs. Evil” don’t pass it up! Extremely entertaining. I’m hoping for “T&DvsE BDM2”

Great interview, mainly because Alan is so entertaining. Have you guys seen Suburgatory? It's actually pretty funny and Alan is in semi-Wash mode in this one. He's HI-larious! That's 2 of our heroes on ABC (it's unfortunate that V couldn't hold on or it would be 3).

And I, Robot, really!? Had no idea. Damn Fox. They will never learn, don't bet against our BDH. Now I have to watch it again.

The guys are working because their good and Firefly/Serenity was great.

Glad I'm not the only one who thought so. I'd even say that is someone wanted to recast Joker post-Ledger, Alan would be the logical choice.
