Actually I wasn't intending to pick it up - the halfassed relase, dearth of content, and ridiculous price made that one a dead letter...

Till I see it on the clearance rack for $14.95USD

So, what the hell, right ?

Yes, it's not very impressive, the combat is really nothin that hasn't been done, and better, before, and trying to do an away team mission will give you the urge to jam a fork in your eye as your team falls through the ground and gets stuck, over, and over, and over again - seriously, don't even try, avoid ground missions like the plague they are!...

But the universe and exploration isn't half bad, and the customization is pretty neat - there were giggles, and comin from me, that's never a good sign, heh heh.

Picture, if you will, ye olde Miranda class cruiser, a rattletrap bucket o bolts that was second rate when it was built, quickly obsolete, and mostly rendered to escort or science missions, and in one particularly insulting case (USS Lantree), as a supply barge...

Now, rip out both phaser banks and replace em with a single upgraded forward, and tack a twin barreled pulse phasor turret on top of the rollbar box which used to contain the torpedo room, and out of each torpedo port, a pair of heavy disruptor muzzles from a set of gawdaful nasty cannon some poor Klingon no longer has a use for, and several other various "upgrades" wired, duct taped, or welded on however we could get em in there, including a pair of pylons that are obviously not OEM, and a MUCH larger set of impulse nozzles stickin out the back...

*giggles maniacally*

That's the USS Bougainville, what's left of her after the Borg chewed her and her original bridge crew up, and she got handed to me - she might not be very pretty, but when she's bearing down on ya with a weight of fire Khan prolly would have sold a testicle for, not like it matters.

It's kinda fun for a coupla bucks, so it's worth pickin up on the cheap just for the ship p0rn, but it's nothin groundshaking, no.

And of course the giggling fit which mounting a set of heavy disruptor cannons stripped off a freakin BATTLECRUISER on a Federation Miranda class, and then USING THEM ON THE SAME FLOTILLA OF KLINGONS, was all by itself, worth the fifteen bucks.

And you thought Kirk was a maniac ?
heh heh heh.

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

I have been enjoying the game, even while recognizing its manifold inequities. I don't play religiously, but I get in about five-ten hours a week, more or less, depending on my unfinished business each week.

Ship customization is definitely the star of the game. Mission stories are definitely the weak point of the game. I don't have much trouble on ground missions, but they tend to be time-consuming and inadequate in reward.

Ship combat is more fun, though I don't understand why you can't do loops. I think Khan isn't the only one who was stuck in 2 Dimensional thought.

I have a Ferengi Lt. Cmdr Scientist named Vex flying a Nova class, and an Andorian Engineering Captain named Atchek in a Galaxy class. Currently I'm experimenting with seven pulse-phaser turrets on the Galaxy. There's a challenge in keeping the weapon power levels up, but the 360 degree firing radius suits the lumbering battlewagon nicely. It's like watching a swarm of energy insects chewing up your enemies. Who needs torpedoes?

By contrast, the Science ship is fairly nimble. I've got twin phaser banks forward on that bucket, and they eat up bad guys nicely. It's a different experience, having a ship that turns fast enough to point it at a bad guy.
