"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Woo-HOO!

Just got an e-mail from BestBuy.com - my Dexter Season 3 DVDs have shipped, and are on their way to me! Too bad they won't be here until next week, 'cause there ain't dook on TV this weekend.

Oh well... I've got movies to keep me busy and out of the heat, and I've got projects aplenty for the "cool" mornings when it's only 90-95ยบ outside. I realized it's been far, far too long since I've seen Silent Running, because my wife has never seen it, and this year was our 20th anniversary, so I tracked that down at my favorite little local video dive:

http://www.vulcanvideo.com/

I also picked up The Ruling Class, with Peter O'Toole, which comes highly recommended. Apparently he plays a son of a member of the Horse of Lords, and he's quite insane, but when his father dies (in a tutu, no less), he inherits his seat in Parliament. One problem: he believes he's Christ - or at least he DID believe that; now he believes he's Jack the Ripper. Somehow this is listed as a "comedy". Can't hardly wait!

So I'm covered, and I'll be safe from the murderous Texas heat, and I should be quite highly entertained to boot. But I won't have Dexter yet.

Also, if any of you want it and HAVEN'T ordered it, I think Amazon has since undercut BestBuy's price, but I pre-ordered way back in April, so that $24 was the best price then. Amazon has it now for $19. :(

Anyone else ordered their copy yet?

Mike

Apparently the "official" release date is 8/18. Hey, if they want to ship it to me early, I'm cool with that. Probably won't get it before Tuesday anyway...

And yeah, I'm thinkin' marathon, too!

I watched the first four episodes. Pretty good stuff.
On par with the second season so far. Season 1 is still in a class by itself.

HKCAVALIER

Hey, Mike. As it turns out, I just watched the first 2 seasons of Dexter over the course of last week as I've been working on my novel. I've always found that a little narratively nutritious background noise was best when I'm working. With the added bonus that Dexter is basically a deeply unkind retelling of the Batman story and my novel is a deeply unsympathetic look at the super hero myth by way of post 9/11 revenge politics.

So, what I'm saying is, I know why I watch the thing. But why do you? Why would anyone, really? It's a horrible show about a man who applies power-tools to helpless people! I read online reviews and they're all so glowing with only the merest nod to "how twisted" or "creepy" it is. It's downright disturbing how UNtalked about the actual subject of the show is. So, I don't mean to harsh on you or anyone who watches the thing or finds it fascinating--certainly I do. It's just that I'm looking for something a little more personal or meaningful than "it's so deliciously twisted" from my fellow Dexter appreciators and I thought you'd be just the man to ask.

Hey, hey, hey, don't be mean. We don't have to be mean, because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.
