Gonna stick my neck on the block, and ask for your opinion on this.

I know the similarities between B7 & Firefly have been mentioned in a few threads, so thought I'd ask if anyone thought modern shows were in any way influenced by it.

If you read through various forums, it's almost impossible not to spot the odd comparison between B7 and latter day shows.
I've read it mentioned in the same threads as Andromeda and Farscape for instance. Also noticed comparisons when reading reviews in some of the UK press.

So love it or hate it, did it influence any modern day writers ? Or is it just that writers like the age old story of the underdog fighting for what they believe in ?

I see it. Blakes 7 was one of the first, if not the first sci-fi series to have protagonists not fit that Star Trek kind of good-guy mold. I liked the show - wouldn't mind seeing it again, if it's ever released on DVD.

I remember watching it back in the 70's and I LOVED it! You could easily make an argument that it's a progenitor of "modern" scifi.

I reckon Sega ripped the tune off for the Space Harrier arcade machine, extended it and gave it a disco beat.

An example of the groundbreaking special effects :-
