Don't know if anyone else has posted this but it details in part a CEO of a firm's idea that folks skipping work to see Star Wars Episode 3 during the first two days in US theaters potentially could cost employers a lot of money .. its sorta interestin'

well I know of 3 offices (approx. 40 people) at my base that are taking "enlisted calls" friday to catch the 12:30 showing. I don't think it'll be a big deal though, most of us are geeks so we'd have taken leave anyway.

Hello,

I dunno... if you've got Paid Time Off coming to you, and you take it, then good on you.

If you don't, you get reprimanded or possibly fired.

Sounds like a publicity article to me.

I know one software firm that made it a company holiday. Since everyone was planning to call in, the VP decided to buy tickets for anyone that wanted to go. The entire company will be there. How cool is that?

Why did I quit my job there? Why?!

I no longer work there.....my dad still works there, my boyfriend still works there (perhaps you see the reason I no longer work there), my friends still work there. I was lucky enough to get a ticket to the same showing as the rest of them. I had to ask off from my job.

No, they are not hiring...they were last month, but not now.

GRRARRG

I can't believe this guy has a job in his field, let alone is CEO of his company. The $626.88 millions he estimates is based on the assumption that
* all 4.8 million of those people are going to see it during the work day (I'm sure some tons of people will see it during the day, but plenty of others will see it during the evening or at night), AND
* that they are going to miss the entire day (most could certainly at least work half the day), AND
* that they are costing their workplace extra money that would not otherwise be spent, which I'm sure is rarely the case - I get 8 sick days and 2 personal days per year; if I took off work, they would need to pay a sub to work for me, BUT it would count against my earned leave. Believe me, I'd be taking that day off at some point during the year. This just means that there's one less day later on that each of these workers will take off.

For most companies (them that give out a set amount of sick/personal leave days per year) this event isn't going to cost EXTRA money, it's just going to cause them to spend that money then, rather than on some other random day that their worker might choose to take off.

Ludicrous. Absolutely idiotic. This guy is either being paid as part of a publicity plot, or (most likely) he wanted to get his name and his company's name in the paper. Of course, if one were in the market for employing his type of firm, one would actually think about what he was saying, and hopefully would recognize the absurtidity of it.

I mock you with my monkey pants.
