Forgive me for my late start. I had never heard of firefly until very recently. Believe it or not, I actually saw a bit on the movie serenity on daily planet. I thought it looked pretty good, so ended up going to see it. I was incredibly surprised by how much I loved it, how well it was written, and just how good of a story it was.

At this time I was hooked. I went to the movie rental place around me to rent the series, and found it to have been rented out. It actually took me 3 weeks to get it (it was always rented, by someone or other, and the movie place told me they had another couple on order). Well, last friday I finally rented it, and watched serenity (the pilot). By friday night I was done watching half of the episodes, and by saterday afternoon, I had finished the series. It was, no word of a lie, some of the best writing and character development I have ever seen, TV or no.

It was then that I started getting mad at how the show was cancelled. When I look at some of the absolute crap that is on TV these days, having such a good TV show be cancelled is ridiculous. I know I am years late for the party, and I know alot of this stuff has already been said, but I would like to say it anyway, and please tell me if the ideas have been suggested before.

First of all, I don't know if going to movies is final or not, but I think not continueing the story in an episodic fashion would be a mistake. The movie was good, but I would rather more seasons of hte TV show, then more movies. Part of the amazingness of this show is the slower pace that it can take, and the subtle character development. If more episodes can be made, I think joss should finish season one (before the movie) and then start season 2 after the movie.

That being said, is there any possibility of this happening? I assume joss has taken firefly to anyone he can to get it on the air, I assume it is not working. SciFi is a good bet, but how far is that comming?

Personally, I don't know how feasible this is, but I think joss should start his own production company. Trade it on the market. This way all of the firefly fans can actually own stock in the making of their show, and can actually do something (ie, invest) about making this show come back. It can be released in a direct to DVD format, or even as a download on the internet (as well as the DVD) for 5 dollars an episode (prices may vary). If the episodes are made, I am sure some networks will buy the rights to showing them, adding more revenue.

So, am I too late? Has everything been tried, and failed? I would hate to see serenity (good movie as it was) be the final chapter in the story of firefly. The death of firefly (even if I just found out about it) hurts me more because of the potential it had. It hadn't even gotten to exploring most of its potential.

Anyway, joss, if you want me to work on getting you started on your own company, give me an email ;).

Steve

I discovered the greatness of firefly/serenity not 3 weeks ago and agree 100%, Glad to hear your entusiasm for the show. From what Joss has said in interviews he seems to prefer more movies rather than tv episodes. It is impossible to know if this preference is truly his desire or if he simple cannot wrangle the rights from the evil FOX execs or what? Rumors abound about the tv rights, one things for sure he and the cast love the story and love working together.
