ATOMICBLONDE

I was upset after I got this letter. I decided we need to begin a group where we can all talk n chat n plan about saving our shows.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Save_Our_Shows/

I wrote the head of UPN. I have an uncle in the furniture business(detroit for friend in high places) I have recieved this email to tell you all that we arnt acomplishing what we need to. More postcards are needed. More networks need to inquire about this show called FIrefly, because you asked them about it!
Write them to tell them your interrested. Remember we have to out weigh the Neilsen ratings to make a difference. So the 8 million people that didnt watch have to look small in comparison to us.

They are on break til january 6th... Then they will probly decide, unless we raise a stink.

As you read keep in mind that UPN is well aware of exactly how it rated.

letter was as follows...

I have received your email message regarding the Fox series, "Firefly."

Currently the UPN network has quite a few programs in development. And we
are sorry to tell you that we are not aware of any plans to pick up
"Firefly."

Unfortunately the cancellation of a television program is based on the
ratings it receives, and since the sci-fi drama "Firefly" was the
lowest-rated program on the four major networks, Fox canceled it. Because
the program failed to attract an audience nationally, there is really no
incentive at this time for another network to have any interest in
continuing the series. (Me) This is where im saying more postcards)

In the Detroit market, "Firefly" received a 3 rating. As a comparison, (Me)Detroit market is like 10th out of 210) the
program that the majority of Detroiters watched at 8pm on Friday night was
"Providence" with a 10 rating and even with a 10 rating, the program is off
the NBC schedule and NBC won't decide until January if they want to bring
"Providence" back next Fall. So you can see that a program like "Firefly"
that ranked 99th out of 136 programs the week of December 1st, and was the
19th watched program out of 20 on Fox, doesn't have much of a chance for
renewal based on those numbers.

And that was it...
People do you see. They put shows on Hiatus and decide later if they are going to keep them..

So clearly now that someone had the balls to tell me straight up what we see what we have to do......
Ladies and gentlemen if you give a rats azz you need to get up off it and send a freakin postcard. Something pleasant in the memo. We have to prove that the Neilsen ratings are crap and that there are millions ( yes I mean Millions) of us that want this program to be allowd to grow. Friday is a lousy slot. Whose home on fridays to watch family crap but familys. It wasn't a family show!!! There are close to 300K visits on this site alone 3 days ago. If everyone of you can asks 3 people that care about you to send a postcard or an email to this company thats practicaly a million, and I know some of you can do better then that!! Hell there are 300K of us registerd here!! NOne of us have claimd to be a Nielsen box household!!!! This system othat is killing good quality and God forbid exciting shows has got to go.!!! The Middle and lower classes spend more money on real entertainment then any upper class household that they are careing about!!!! That is why they are always asking our incomes. We watch the commercials its up to us to tell them they are wrong!!! The calculating by household income is rediculous. It must stop and its up to us....We count, We arnt all out at the bar on Firday, and if we arn't every Firday. Something has to be done before reality tv takes over the world!!! PLeaqe join and care

I know this was mentioned on the official boards, but I feel compelled to mention it here too. You did not write the head of UPN. You wrote the Detroit affiliate, WKBD, and they sent you the same form response they sent to a bunch of the rest of us in Detroit. So, no offense, you aren't giving us any big surprising news from UPN.

That's not from the head of UPN, that's from the Detroit affiliate. And it looks like it came from a particularily nasty one at that, as the rest of the affils who have written back have at least been pleasantly neutral, or even supportive ins ome cases.

I would like to think the head of UPN, who HAS been talking with Joss personally, is aware of the circumstances surrounding the botched handling by Fox of Firefly. There has been a lot of critical press regarding the issue, and the articles that mean a damn all the same thing: Good show, Fox blew it on the deployment.

The guy in Detroit only understands the business on a surface level. I can guarentee you that any show that UPN is developing for mid seasons or fall 2003 will NOT have the guarenteed built in fan base that Firefly will. And if Buffy goes the way of the dodo come June, I imagine that all those Joss Whedon fans have to go SOMEWHERE for their fix. And all those Enterprise fans might stick around for Firefly as well. A smart executive should be able to see past the statistics, which, as statistics in general are, easily manipulatable.

There is a reason why Dawn T-O (Sorry, can never remember her full last name right off the top of my head! ) is the head of UPN, and this nameless guy takes orders from Detroit.

Hjermted is right. Keep those postcards coming, and it is a good idea to get as many people as you know to do the same too. Apathy is our biggest enemy now.

I've been wondering - arae postcards the way to go? What I mean by that is would it be just as effective to send a business letter, or is it more effective to send the postcard?

Today, as I was having lunch, I was watching the birds in the trees and wondered what it would be like if birds knew that people didn't like being shat on. As I was thinking this, a bird shat on my sandwich. Perhaps I knew too much...

Postcards are preferred by the entertainment industry because after the anthrax scare they may or may not open mail.
