Some of these sites have fleeting duration, so I'll post the article here:

Even as its creator, Joss Whedon, stands canceled, there is no denying that his stamp on contemporary pop-culture will be difficult to scrub off. His masterpiece, the television series Firefly, recently witnessed a spike in viewership at home, reminding everybody why it's considered one of the greatest cult hits of the 21st century. Firefly debuted in 2002, and was canceled after a single season due to poor ratings. But its subsequent popularity on home video prompted the studio and Whedon to work on a follow-up film, the theatrically released Serenity.

According to FlixPatrol, Firefly was among the most watched shows on the Amazon PVOD charts earlier this week, beating out landmark titles such as Yellowstone and South Park. Following the adventures of a space crew in the distant future, Firefly was headlined by Nathan Fillion, with Morena Baccarin and Alan Tudyk as a part of the ensemble cast. The show ran for just 14 episodes, but was received warmly. It now holds a 77% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, where the critics' consensus reads, "Firefly earns its audience's adoration with the help of Nathan Fillion's dry delivery, a detailed fantasy world, and compelling storylines -- even if it doesn't stand with creator Joss Whedon's most consistent work." The show's audience score of 96% is a sign of its enduring popularity.

In a retrospective review for Collider, Jessica Toomer pointed out the show's flaws — "overwritten dialogue, Bechdel test failings, and wildly problematic cultural appropriation" — but wrote that, "It holds up all on its own. Not as comfort viewing for burned-out millennials, but as a masterclass in world-building, character writing, and earned emotional stakes." Whedon, of course, was best known as the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer until then, and has since gone on to direct mega-hits such as The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. However, reports of toxic behavior have derailed his career in recent years, with his last-produced project being HBO's The Nevers, which was canceled mid-season.

You can watch Firefly at home, and stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
