There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

The only thing I want to say right now would be a long string of profanity, but I'll spare y'all that. I know all years have tragedies and deaths, but I am so over being beaten up by 2016. Haven't we mourned enough?

I'll not use my typical signature this time, which is Mandarin for "We're still flying." I think Serenity will be grounded for a while as we process our grief.

I was lucky enough to meet him at a few conventions and he was everything you'd want him to be. Warm, charming, classy - when you got a picture taken with him, he'd shake your hand while looking you in the eye and say hello. We were lucky to have him, so sad we have to say goodbye.

See you in the black.

I am quoting this post because I too feel he played his role as Shepherd wonderfully. I saw the news of his passing and admit, I am thoroughly shocked and saddened.

I just found out. Gorram it.

I promise a toast to him at Redemption '17 (a bit late as it's in February, but that toast will be drunk, on my blood honour [spot the Lost Girl fan]!)

As I firmly believe we should celebrate life as well as mourning death, the following just has to be quoted from Jaynestown, it just has to be done:

River: They say the snow on the roof is too heavy. They say the ceiling will cave in. His brains are in terrible danger.
Book: River? Please, why don't you come on out?
River: No! Can't! Too much hair!
Book: Is — is that it?
Zoe: Hell, yes, preacher. If I didn't have stuff to get done, I'd be in there with her. (He gives her a look)
Book: It's the rules of my Order. It symbolises -
Zoe: Uh-huh. River, honey, he's putting the hair away now.(Book starts to tie his hair back)
River: Doesn't matter. It'll still be there. Waiting.

Although I had assumed, if we were lucky enough to be spared the tragically premature passings of one of our other BDHs, that he would be the most likely to retire first, I still hoped it would be a long time in the future. Alas, this is our first to go, and I will miss the reassurance that I might find him in yet further works, and even maybe see Sheppard Book again.

R.I.P. Ron. Know that your beloved characters, roles, and works will be in our hearts and minds for many years to come, and based upon the timeless quality of Firefly, very likely generations of fans.

I was planning to rewatch Firefly this weekend of Thanksgiving. I'm happy it is in my player now, ready for me to get back home.

Ron and Nathan were at the prescreening of Serenity I got to see. Nathan stole the show, but Ron got in a few good lines. Ron also guest starred at a CSTS screening I went to and he was amazing. I didn't expect much from him, but he told a lot of funny stories and had the audience wrapped around his finger. He seemed very genuine as well. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones.

VERASAMUELS

One of the BDHs has left us...

Well, I guess it had to happen some time. This year. 2016, we need words.

The man who played the Shepherd is being welcomed in to the eternal home by the great Shepherd.

I met Ron Glass several times. His greeting was always warm and heartfelt.

At a convention in the UK, he sat beside me during the meet-and-greet. He was wearing a Lakers hat. I asked, 'Are you a fan?'. He replied that indeed he was and the Lakers were playing back home so he'd miss the game. Knowing the resourcefulness of the tech crew, I suggested he asked the tech desk and they would almost certainly have ways of accessing the game and keep him up to speed on the ball play and indeed the score.

The look on his face is something I don't think I will ever forget....

Buddhists believe EVERYTHING is impermanent. You saying he was welcomed to his "Eternal Home" is an insult to his beliefs and incredibly tacky.

Believe in a sky faerie if YOU want to, but you should probably get a clue when giving tribute for others who do not.

Wow. It's this type of attitude that has always chased people away from this site. I can't say positively Ron wouldn't be offended by the post, but I have a feeling he would understand and know that respect and love was the only thing being offered. Tacky? Not so much.

Totally unjustified Wish.

You owe her (and the rest of us posting in this thread IMO) an apology. Stomping so aggressively on a genuinely meant expression of sadness at Ron's passing, *however expressed* - very definitely not disrespect - is out of order and I hope out of character. I've met this lady and can tell you right now that you're unlikely to find a more devoted fan of Firefly, long term con goer and user of this site who also shared a very nice personal memory of Ron in her post.

So if you happen to be religious (I'm not), you're not allowed to pray for someone of another in your own terms or express a sentiment similarly? I've rarely seen a more intolerant post on this site.

"I don't care what you believe. Just believe"

Or choose not to, but not cool Wish. Not cool.

And if anyone is still reading what was becoming a nice memory/tribute thread about Ron until the mood was broken, a special one off Ron Glass tribute episode of The Signal podcast is now available to download directly from here

http://broadwaves.org/rss/episodes/bw20161027-ronglass.html

It should also show up in iTunes tomorrow (slight delay due to human error!) best we could do in the time, but we hope it lightens the load and raises a smile or two and memories of happier times for Browncoats. What a voice and sense of humour he had!

BTW, if you use a modern podcatcher app like Downcast, *watch* the final minutes silence full screen.

In the context of this being an appreciation of Ron, we should err on the side of compassion, as the Shepherd would. Vera's comment was appropriate based on her feelings, Wishimay was completely rude and inappropriate. It matters little that my own personal opinion of a soul, or an afterlife, is probably much the same as that held by Ron & Wishy. This is not a time to snipe at a fellow fan for their heartfelt condolences.

If Wish doesn't think an apology is in order, neither should she feel it necessary to say anything else at all.

So what?? You are more upset that I called out an acquaintance of yours than you are that she insulted someone who can't speak for themselves?

The thought of Ron going to a Christian "heaven" when I'm sure he experienced his fair share of Christian assholicness for being gay, upsets ME. It's like telling a pacifist "I hope you go to Klingon Sto-vo-kor when you die." It may have been done out of ignorance, but it was narcissistic and wrong...

If nothing else comes out of this than she learns to rub a couple brain cells together before she sends someone to an eternal afterlife said person wants nothing to do with..... GREAT.

Now, I am sorry I felt forced to interrupt the tone, but I won't ever be sorry for standing up for what I believe is right.

Wouldn't matter if I'd never met her, you made an unwarranted *personal* attack on someone - a fellow fan - that's totally against the intended spirit of the post (and general vibe) and to my mind is aggressive bullying behaviour and you've been called on it. Not just by me.

What, do you fly into an apoplectic rage every time someone says Bless you if you sneeze?

There's no agenda here, no judging, just an honest grieving sentiment about someone we all admired that happened to tweak your mis-aligned outrage button and make you post something that I believe was flat out of order and wrong.

So we've both expressed what we both believe about your attack (and altered my opinion of someone whose posts used to be worth a look.) Let's move on.

I'm more upset that your indignation fit has required me to continue this conversation rather than read a few more nice posts about Ron.

Wow, are you a master manipulator. And you probably are so emotionally defunct you take that as a compliment... Bi-polar? Personality disorder?
You display marginalization and hyperinflationary speech, both hallmarks of a mental disorder. And then you follow up with deflection when you can't get your way... All you can DO is take things personal, I bet.

You should probably know, I don't care who you are or what you are a fan of.

That is indeed how *you* (or anyone else) can show respect to a Buddhist (or indeed anyone of any religion if that is how you choose to honour them). There is no issue with that and I can totally respect that. But being a dick about deciding how someone else wants to show them respect or express a sentiment is somehow wrong for the slightest of reasons and attacking them for it out of the blue, is not.

I'm sure that goes both ways and I shouldn't be prolonging this, so I apologize to anyone who is finding this uncomfortable.

Rather disappointed that you resorted to wild accusations of mental disorder (never mind the straw man LGBT thing you threw in at the start) - that was a first. Could have just said "yeah, that was a bit strong, sorry" when first called on this, which would have been the decent thing to do, or even have just rolled your eyes privately and kept quiet, but clearly my expectations were too high.

Anyhoo, carry on carrying on by all means.

Indeed he did. Jewel commented that she'd just muck about to hear Ron laugh on set :-)

Thanks for that.

Plus our tribute episode (corrected feed details below - it should now show on iTunes) includes a 2005 interview he did for The Signal (probably around the same time as the Done The Impossible was being filmed - a few of the original Signal crew are also in that - well before my involvement though)

Happy, optimistic days that have left a lasting impression. Ron was a man who laughed easily and infectiously and liked the fans - and of course we liked him a lot too and will miss him.

AGAIN, wishing a BUDDHIST to go to your heaven, because you are a NARCISSIST, IS WRONG!!@!!!!!!!!!!

IT IS BEING DISRESPECTFUL OF THE DECEASED'S WISHES. I'm so sorry you can't get this very basic concept. It's not like she wasn't warned, and if she was such a fan she should have known better.

And, not an accusation IF IT'S TRUE, which I see you aren't denying. Even if you did, I would bet my last dollar you do have serious problems.

On that note, I will take it as a kindness if you DON'T ever speak to me again. Thanks so much.
