The synopsis sounded interesting, perhaps novel. But I was disappointed.
ETA: A young group from Houston decide to make a porn film (in 1979), to take advantage of the burgeoning Home Video Market, and rent a remote farmhouse to use as the set. But this is a horror film, so many of them end up dying. Much of the film is in very dark lighting, and shifting darkness (like they used bad/old film). Sort of a cross between almost Texas Chainsaw Massacre (or almost Friday The 13th) and almost Zach And Miri Make a Porno. The porno Cinematographer character even mentions the film Psycho.

This film could have been about half the run time. The suspense or tension which probably should have been present was absent.

The characters claimed to try newer styles of filming (circa 1979), but this film did some weird things. Extra dark lighting, and goofy stop frame transitions.

Coda at end of credits, theater had already emptied. Only credit following was A24. Long set of scenes, after the drawn out slow film, lots of stuff packed into the coda. I might need slo-mo and freeze frame to catch everything included in it.

ETA: actually, that coda appears to be the trailer for the upcoming prequel "Pearl"

I've never even heard about this one.

Care to update your OP with a brief synopsis of the flick?

I've seen two movies by A24 that I'm aware of, and I've posted about both of them here. Both Under the Silver Lake and Locke were A24 films, and I really enjoyed them.

There's probably a lot of films that I wouldn't care for by A24, but I don't get the feeling that mass appeal is what they're going for. In today's woke-culture nonsense world that Hollywood has us living in, I can appreciate that.

Ah... I've also seen The Witch. I'm pretty sure I posted about it here and said it was just about the worst movie I've ever seen.

That being said, I did watch a breakdown of the movie by a YouTuber I like and thought to myself "Did they watch an entirely different movie than I did?".

I should probably give that one another try. I think the problem was the near-indecipherable accents used in the flick, and the fact that I watched it with my horror-genre-loving brother who can't read fast, so I didn't have subtitles up and I seemed to have just missed a lot of what was going on because of that.

It was an interesting watch and the cinematography was excellent. Perhaps I was more than a little unfair with my initial review.

But really though... The accents were BAD. Like Brad Pitt's accent as the gypsy bare-knuckle boxer on Snatch bad.

But I can appreciate that some people enjoy struggling through that and that A24 seems to be a production house that is going to make what it wants to make and doesn't really care about your opinion.

I added a brief synopsis, which is not quite what I read online.

I have watched A24 films before, and I have a favorable inkling about watching more of them. I only referenced that as a marker for when the coda had ended because the entire theater had emptied by then, except me. I had just stepped off the last step before it started, and then I found another seat to watch it.

Thanks for going into a little more detail.

I'm not a fan of the horror genre and probably won't be watching this on my own, but it could be something that I watch when my brother is back in town or I go to visit him since he loves horror movies. I'd get to make him happy and see another A24 film at the same time, which is probably a win/win.

I'm assuming, of course, that given the plot synopsis that the people portrayed in the film speak clearly and enunciate in a way that a modern audience can understand what is going on without the need for subtitles then?

ETA: Something else I can't say I'm much of a fan of is the mainstream appeal that your Unchearted thread seems to be garnering. Enough so that I'm not even going to be posting in there. It's nearly 7,500 views right now.

Weird.

The young Texans have regional dialects, but clear enough for most Americans to conjure.
British actress Mia Goth adopted a Southern accent for this film, and she did it well. (For the young role. She also played the old crone.)

The landowners were very elderly, and some of what they spoke I could not get. But I didn't consider any of it to be important. The volume recorded was just too low.

That at least sounds reasonable.

Not that I'd ever advise anybody to see The Witch after my first experience with it, if you saw it you would know what I'm talking about.

Here... tell me if you could pay attention to an entire movie with these accents without having subtitles.

It's an hour and a half of this, where 1 out of every 5 words spoken flies right past you.

I love the vibe of the flick, and I found myself really wanting to like it. Maybe I will when I watch it again with subtitles. I think I missed something, or many somethings on the first watch.
