I just watched Maggie, and it's not the movie that I saw the last half of with Arielle some years back.

In this movie there are many similar elements. A father with a daughter who has been infected with a zombie plague attempts to keep her alive as she degenerates. In the movie I'm looking for he drives off with her to attempt to find a cure, and there's a memorable scene of a fake cure doctor who is actually just euthanizing his patients in a tent.

I might have some of the details wrong, it could be that parts of this movie or some other got crossed in my mind, but I remember this tent scene quite clearly. The doctor is lying to everyone, he has maybe a dozen children and I'm even sure all of them are sick, he's in a tent somewhere, and his cure is a lethal injection. I don't know how much of a plot hinge point it is, I think it's just a mislead.

Anyway, does anyone remember this film?

I saw it and liked it and I don't like Zombie movies. It was a very thoughtful film.

When I was watching Maggie in ceinema, I recall thinking it was copying another film - one I had not seen too much earlier, but was, IIRC, a bit better than Maggie.

I'm afraid I don't recall which film that was. Not the actors, or director, etc.

At this point, the only figment that floats to me is that Michael Shannon film about the boy, like Intensity or similar, Brightness? But I really don't think that is what you had in mind. edit: it was probably Midnight Special.

Maggie has Abigail Breslin, which is a bigger pull than the other film, IIRC.

Sorry I can't help more at this point, I'll try to recall better.

Was the kid boy or girl?

I don't recall. I realize to some extend there must have been a crossed wire in my brain. When I saw the end of Maggie

Select to view spoiler:

complete deus ex machina btw, it annoyed me. I think there were some darker places this could have gone, haven't search for alt endings yet.

but overall scenes were well done, acting good, characters believable, but world could have used more depth. there was a single world view really, no dissenters or alternative visions or verions of reality.

I agree the other film was more interesting, but now i realize i saw at least part of maggie before. Arielle was very into movies and we had seen both these films together, and I agree the other one was earlier. I remember sick kid in the car when they stopped for someone in the road, who was maybe also infected. idk, and really memorable was the fake cure scene where the doctor was just euthanizing the children. I thought maggie was maybe what i was looking for but then when

Select to view spoiler:

when neither Abigail nor Arney ever tried to run,

I knew I was in the wrong film.

Edit: it wasn't Midnight Special. The kid didn't have powers or light coming from their eyes, they were like Maggie kind of zombie sick

Is this it?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cured
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3463106/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

I'm having a hard time finding anything like this, and I've sifted through a lot of zombie flicks.

Any more info you can remember that might help?

Synopsis of The Cured (SPOILERS):

It is revealed in caption that a plague, called the 'Maze Virus', has previously swept through Europe, transforming its victims into a homicidal, zombie like state. Ireland was particularly ravaged by this virus, with much of the country evacuated or left in economic shambles. A cure was later discovered, and 75% of those infected who could be captured have been treated and cured of the virus. The remaining 25% have proven resistant to the cure. The two groups are defined categorically as the Cured and the Infected. The disease began five years earlier, and some of the Cured were in a feral state for nearly that long while Ireland was in a military-imposed national emergency. Many people in the general populace fear that keeping the Infected alive could easily lead to another outbreak, and there is a considerable amount of civil unrest by the Irish citizenry.

Senan (Sam Keeley), a young Irish man in his twenties, is introduced as a Cured patient who is soon to be released to his sister-in-law's care. Senan is rather passive, whereas his Cured friend, Conor (Tom Vaughan-Lawlor), appears quite remorseless and blames society for their situation. Conor appears to have considerable, unspoken influence over Senan. Senan meets his 'Rehabilitation Officer', Sergeant Cantor (Stuart Graham), who clearly has little faith that the Cured can integrate back into society without further violence. Cantor acts like a parole officer and shows little compassion for Senan.

Senan reunites with his sister-in-law, Abbie (Ellen Page), who has a young son, named Cillian (Oscar Nolan). Cillian quickly begins to bond with his uncle. Abbie soon inquires to Senan as to what became of her husband, Luke, Senan's brother who is still among the missing. Senan claims ignorance of his fate, though it is revealed in one of Senan's many flashbacks that Conor infected Senan, who then killed his brother Luke, in the very flat that Abbie lives in. The Cured have a detailed memory of what they have done while infected; many of them suffer from post-traumatic stress.

Conor, formerly a young lawyer with political aspirations, approaches his father seeking a job with a law firm. His father, also a lawyer, accuses Conor of killing Conor's mother and other atrocities while infected. Sergeant Cantor later confronts Conor and Senan and forcefully tells Conor to have no further contact with his family. Conor begins to form an underground political faction called the Cured Alliance, whose goal is ostensibly to regain many of the civil liberties that the Cured have lost. It is announced in various news broadcasts that the government is planning to euthanize the 25% (5,000 patients) who are infected, despite the assertions of a prominent virologist that a better vaccine for the Infected is nearly developed. Senan takes a job at the hospital where the Infected are housed, and observes that the Infected show no interest in attacking the Cured. This is a source of political tension in the community, as the never-infected suspect aloud that the Cured would love to see another outbreak of the Maze Virus, as they would be largely immune to its effects.

Conor attempts to recruit Senan into the Cured Alliance, but Senan initially appears uninterested, wanting only to settle into family life and forget the past. However, the public at large have become hostile towards the Cured living in their midst, and eventually Senan agrees to go on an arson mission with Conor to gain some political leverage. The mission was intended to be free of casualties, but a soldier is killed and Cantor suspects Senan and Conor. Cantor approaches Abbie at her flat and educates her on the nature of the people infected with the Maze Virus. He tells her that the infected are linked in some telepathic manner, and that they form into packs like predatory animals. He voices his suspicions that the predatory traits are not eliminated by the vaccine, and that the Cured are still very dangerous. When Abbie shows skepticism, Cantor shows her a photograph of Conor and Senan roaming together when they were infected. Conor appeared to be leading Senan in murderous acts in the photo. Conor later approaches Abbie, and tacitly admits that he and Senan killed her husband while they were infected during the early days of the outbreak. Conor shows her a ghastly scar on his shoulder and tells her that her husband, Luke, did indeed try to fight back but was overcome by himself and Senan.

Abbie confronts Senan, and he tearfully admits that he killed Luke after Conor infected him. She tells him to get out, and Senan finally realizes that Conor has no remorse for what he has done in the past, and what he is still doing. Senan assists Cantor in a sting operation to arrest Conor after he confesses aloud to the arson; however, Conor violently murders Cantor and flees after showing a rare emotional outburst, blaming Senan for betraying him. Conor asserts that Senan is a fool for believing that anyone other than other Cured people care anything about him now. Conor and the Cured Alliance set in motion a drastic plan to free the Infected from their cell-block. The Infected are freed from their captivity and they take to the streets, killing and infecting new victims and causing mass chaos. Irish Army troops are deployed to the streets in an attempt to quell the emergency. Senan finds Abbie, who is frantically trying to retrieve Cillian from his school. Senan rescues Cillian but is confronted by Conor, who beats him savagely. A soldier shoots Conor but he escapes and his fate is unknown. Senan, Abbie and Cillian return to their flat, but Cillian is bit by an infected person and begins showing immediate signs of infection. Senan, knowing he is immune, takes Cillian, and tells Abbie he will keep him safe until another vaccine is available.

An unspecified time later, a news broadcast announces that order has been restored, although 8,000 new infected people are now in captivity. During the announcement Abbie is seen walking down the street alone. In the background promotional posters of Conor (as the voice of the Cured/Cured Alliance) can be seen; showing that he is not only alive but has obtained his goal of being a leader. It is publicized that some infected are now in hiding, as the government is again discussing euthanasia for the inevitable 25% who are Resistant. Watching the broadcast, Abbie bursts into tears, knowing that Senan is hiding somewhere with the infected Cillian, and that the government cannot be trusted but that the only hope for her son is another government vaccine.

I'm assuming you are not talking about Imagine or Miracle From Heaven. My baseline reference for real life child illness is Lorenzo's Oil - which Libtards hated.

I feel like the filem I was trying to recall, the protagonists were trying to protect the child, shield them from authorities or general populace. That was what made me think of Midnight Special, plus he was degenerating with each passing day.

Was time travel involved? Did the4y go to another time for a solution?

I think would have to be earlier than midnight special, this was a few years back. also less spaceshippy

This world was very dark, sort of story where the doctor actually just euthanizes the kids is something that you nod and say, okay, yeah it was headed there. I don't know if it was a zombie movie per say, or a pandemic movie, but I remember some lawless not quite mad maxish but getting there kind of chaos. If I can find the one scene where the doc had made a makeshift hospital out of a tent i'd know i had the right film.

Edit: I hate how useless google has become, in order to misinform us, they've started including "OR" as the default in searches instead of "AND" and it's sometimes hard to get rid of. I can't search on hospital tent scenes in plague or zombie movies because all I get is the WHO.

thanks, but no, it's not the Cured. That was another one we thought, so we watched it, right before Maggie.

Oh... so you're not even sure it's a zombie flick then?

I did see another movie that might fit your description. I'll have to find it again though.

I was going to mention this one earlier, but decided against it since we were looking for zombie flicks.

Quote:

A highly infectious virus has spread worldwide, killing most of the population. Brothers Brian and Danny, along with Brian's girlfriend Bobby and Danny's friend Kate, plot a trip to take shelter at Turtle Beach, the brothers' childhood vacation home. To help them survive, they follow a set of rules created by Brian.

On their way to the beach, the group encounter a survivor named Frank and his infected daughter Jodie, whose vehicle has run out of fuel. The four escape from Frank when he attacks them, but after their car breaks down, they are forced to help Frank and Jodie to use his vehicle. At Frank's insistence, they travel to a nearby high school where a serum for the pandemic is rumored to have been developed.

Upon arriving, Frank, Brian, Danny, and Kate discover that the serum does not work and the last remaining doctor is preparing to euthanize a group of infected children and himself. Meanwhile, Bobby catches the virus from Jodie, which she hides from the others. Frank is later forced to bring Jodie to a portable toilet, giving Brian the opportunity to leave them behind and take their vehicle.

Movie was made in 2009, not 2019 like the YT video link shows.

Doctor scene starts at 4:30.

So kind of like a prophecy for Delta, huh?

Speaking of Delta, if I were the airline right now I'd be pretty pissed. Do you think that whoever was naming these viruses had a hardon for Delta Airlines and the makers of Corona beer? Because fuck me, I bet they wish they picked different names right now.

How about if you were a small chocolate or fudge-flavored product used as a diet aid? An appetite suppressant, used to lose weight.
Called Ayds. Had strong sales in the 1970s and early 80s.
