OK,looks like Alita: Battle Angel is coming 20 July. What a cast!
Reading the synopsis, it sounds like the backstory portion of Ghost In The Shell. James Cameron has been working on this since before 2005?

Bird Box with Sarah Paulson is a possibility, must check in on it with more details.

And Alicia Vikander has not let me down yet, so Euphoria I'll need to check out, 2 Feb.

Haven't taken time to take a peek into 2018. Maybe later this week.

I noticed a rumor that Disenchanted is supposed to show in 2018.
If it is anywhere near Enchanted, I'll need to watch.

And the Han Solo prequel.

I'm a go for both films, especially if Amy Adams is in. Full disclosure, I LOVE Amy Adams (it's a tie between her and Christina Hendricks - redheads.....ummmm, wait, I have to go clean my lip).

Oh, BTW, I found a film that I've developed a crush for...The Shape of Water. Directed by Guillermo Del Toro. Need I say more....there is a trailer.

Tomb Raider reboot with Alicia Vikander.
I recall the producers wanted to stuff the bra of Angelina in the first. Wonder how they will treat Alicia.
I don't recall if she's had butt kicking roles before.

Nomis.
Nathan together again with Alexandra Daddario. Plus Henry Cavill, Sir Kingsley, Stanley Tucci, Emma & Jason Tremblay (both currently in cinema with Wonder), Minka Kelly.

I wonder if Alexandra's bf Zac visited, Young Simon hanging with Capt Mal from one of his early roles.

Looks like Untitled Deadpool Sequel comes out in 2018.
With Morena.

And likely The Kid, with Adam plus Greta Scacchi's daughter.

And The Long Home has quite a cast, should keep an eye out.

The only thing I'm really looking forward to in 2018 is Red Letter Media's 2018 edition of F**K YOU, IT'S JANUARY!

I will see Deadpool 2 though. That might be the only movie of 2018 I see. That's my current prediction.

And The Predator is a sequel, written and directed by Shane Black. Gotta see that.

I actually kind of liked that Cloverfield movie with John Goodman in it. I haven't heard anything about this new one. Is it going to be like one of the previous movies, or another entirely different type of movie? I think that could be pretty interesting.

That seems like a trick question. It is the third installment of the Cloverfield series.
It takes place on a Space Station.

That was Mary Elizabeth Winstead in the John Goodman one.

It probably was a trick question just because of how weird the 2nd movie was in relation to the 1st movie. I guess what I mean to say is that I hope that the 3rd one is just as strangely related to the first two.

I thought Winstead was really good. I don't really know her from anything else other than Fargo, and I didn't even realize once while watching Fargo that it was the same person and was kind of shocked when I looked up the cast on IMDB and found out that I'd seen her in something else before. She does seem to have a good range from the two things I've seen her in.

Okay, I took a look at your list of 2018 movies; here's what I like:

Alita: Battle Angel - sci-fi, girls kicking but...I'm there!
Death Wish with Bruce Willis, I'll give it a shot
Hellboy: Again sci-fi, I'm there
Euphoria: Looks promising, plus Alicia Vikander
Han Solo - fingers crossed that it doesn't suck
Tomb Raider: Alicia Vikander, is there any other reason?
Deadpool: Well, the firstone was great, plus more Morena

I'm adding the Incredibles and Ready Player One.

As for the rest of the list: Jury's still out.

Methinks you overlooked Disenchanted.
I agree with hoping Han Solo won't suck.
I had not yet looked up Ready Player One, but it looks good. More of McKensie Grace. You must be familiar with Hannah, from Black Mirror? And she's in Tomb Raider as well.

Wide range would be an understatement. Early on she was John McClanes daughter in Die Hard 4, memorable in Death Proof, SuperHero in Sky High, then in Scott Pilgrim, and remake of The Thing. You likely missed Braindead last year on CBS.
I don't recall being disappointed with her performances yet, and she is always a draw for me.
In 2018 she has All About Nina. Not much info, but also has Melonie Diaz so I plan to see it.

I forgot she was in Scott Pilgrim and the remake of The Thing. One of those movies would be the first time I'd seen her. I don't remember anything about SP really other than I thought I was probably too old to enjoy it properly when I saw it. I kind of hated The Thing and don't remember anything about it either. The Kurt Russel version is one of my all time favorite movies, so I don't think they had a chance of impressing me much with another remake. I think I would have enjoyed it more if they didn't CG over all the practical effects that were already completed.

Did you ever hear the story about that? I wonder if we'll ever get a cut of the movie that removes the CG effects and shows the practical effects. I'd rewatch it then, and I probably would be a lot more impressed with it.

It's an absolute must see. I guaranty that there is no possible way that you will not like it.

Even the "mediocre" ones are pretty damn good, and the ones that nail it are damn near perfection in my book. Different people seem to gravitate toward different episodes, so it's funny that ones that I put at the bottom of my list are on the top of other people's list.

I haven't seen the 4th season yet, but I'd say that 2 of the 7 that Netflix put out last year are probably better than any Hollywood movie that came out in 2016.

As I recall, MEW was the ONLY, and I mean ONLY reason I went to see Scott Pilgrim, and I could hardly recognize her. But I was glad she got exposure among the fanboys.

The Kurt Russel remake of The Thing was the last film I saw before shipping off to Boot Camp, and also one of the first I saw after Boot Camp. I am not sure if I would have watched the 2011 remake if she wasn't in it. I was satisfied with her performance, but the film overall seemed old hat.

MEW is filming The Parts You Lose this month, unknown release date.

If you haven't seen Death Proof, her performance there really impressed me. Another Kurt Russell film. You heard that film spawned all of the Machete films?
She was adorable in Sky High, although I somehow missed that in cinema. Another Kurt Russell film.
I don't think I have seen Make It Happen.

I just noticed she is no longer married.

I try to follow Leonor Varela, and Alpha does sound interesting. Release 14 Sep, I'll need to check out unless news changes.

I'm not normally a fan of remakes with only females, but the cast looks impressive for Ocean's 8, on 8 June. Sarah Paulson has billing on the poster along with Bullock (Sarah & Sandra also together in Bird Box) and others, but without poster billing are Olivia Munn, Jamie King, Katie Holmes, Dakota Fanning, plus the Kardashian clan. Don't think I've seen Kendall Jenner on film before. Looks like a busy year for Munn - maybe these are after her breakup from Aaron Rodgers.

I think you mentioned Death Proof before. That went over my head. I only saw it years ago when it came out as Grindhouse. IMDB separates them now too... did they get separate releases at a later date then?

I remember loving Death Proof when I saw it with my brother and both of us laughing our ass off at all the intentional cheesiness like the ridiculous jump cuts, and that part at the end of the movie where they mercilessly beat the shit out of him. I really don't remember anything about the movie other than it was a total against type character for Russel. I didn't even know that she was in that one. That was likely the first time I ever saw her.

Given the subject matter of Death Proof, I was going to ask you how old MEW was, but I just looked it up on IMDB. She's a lot older than I thought she was. Good genes. Didn't they all play high schoolers in Scott Pilgrim lol.

Death Proof was not in cinema separately from Grindhouse. Not sure about DVDs. I mention them separately to reduce confusion because many sources list them separately. For me, the most memorable shot was the audible gulp, done by MEW with nobody else in frame. Did you remember the intentionally cheezy trailer for a fake film? That was for Machete, a film never intended to be made, until fans clamoured for it, and then became the first nude scenes for Jessica Alba and Lindsey Logan and seems to have revived the career of Don Johnson.

MEW was still a teen for Wolf Lake, with Mia Kirshner and Graham Greene. I think I first noticed her in Ring 2, which was about the only thing I noticed in that film. All of the title characters of Sky High were supposed to be High Schoolers, and she would have been 20-21 during filming, which I believe was her first Kurt Russell related work.

If you haven't seen The Commuter, it was a bit better than the trailer I once saw for it. The trailer seemed to present a standard Liam Neeson fare vehicle, ala Taken. But the story, puzzle included reminded me most of The Negotiator. So if that is the type of suspense, story you enjoy, you should check out The Commuter. It also looks like the first Hollywood film for Spanish hottie Clara Lago, after an episode in the new season of Librarians.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

SGG, I am sorry for the confusion. There is a Black Mirror thread around here and I had thought you were one of those who've discussed it.
I have not seen it, and don't really recall Hannah from her other works I have seen.

MEW was one of the reasons I saw Scott Pilgrim. But first time I noticed her was in Live free or Die Hard, she was all kinds of awesome as McClane's daughter, Lucy.
She played a teen ager then, but in Scott Pilgrim she was in her 20s. In that one, she melted my heart she was so sweet. I was not aware she was in Sky High (I gotta watch that one again some time).

I don't remember much about DeathProof, although it was awesome. And yeah, Grindhouse was 2 stories in one film. But I liked Deathproof best...cheesy good fun. I also remember the Robert Rodriguez spoof-a-thon known as Machete. You know, he had a cable channel for a hot minute, showcasing Grindhouse films. She had a small part of DeathProof and I don't remember it too well other than Russell and the chick from Australia that was a stunt woman hanging on the top of the car. All I know is that she's a handsome woman and could do just about anything in film...action, love, horror, family, etc. Good actress. Loved her in Cloverfield Lane.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Do Right, Be Right. :)

When the phrase "against type for Kurt Russell" is used, what pops into my head is Soldier, from 9 years before Death Proof. I really liked it, and that was a few years before Dark Angel. Long way from the Disney work he did before his baseball career.

Interesting you should mention Tatiana. MEW beat out Maslany for the lead female role in Gemini Man (2019), with Clive Owen. Unfortunately Fresh Prince is also attached.

You don't have to binge it. Really, my only "complaint" about the show is that it is entirely episodic. That's not actually a complaint at all, mind, but so many great TV shows in the last decade have completely abandoned this "old" format and are more like a 12 or 13 hour movie every season. It's very unlike me to even be interested in the episodic format anymore, so it really is a testament to just how amazing it is.

Black Mirror is like a lot of 1 hour movies. The first two seasons dating back to 2011 and 2013 from the UK were only 3 episodes long, for a total of 6 hours and 6 completely unrelated stories.

When Netflix picked it up they made a special 1 1/2 hour long "Christmas" episode, and followed it up with a 6 episode season 3. It looks like season 4 was another 6 episodes from Netflix.

In total, you only have less than 20 hours of the show to watch. Maybe quite a bit less if there were commercials in the UK seasons (I can't remember exact lengths of the shows).

I haven't seen season 4 yet, but I was not disappointed at all with a great season 3. It concerns me a little bit that they are making twice the episodes in half the time as the original runs, but so far there haven't been any stinkers. As long as they keep this high quality in season 4 and beyond, I'm hoping to look forward to many more years of this truly great show.

The ones that are really good and deal with technology we already have and/or tech that I suspect is already out there today but not available to the general public can be downright terrifying.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

I agree, both on it being against type and being a good movie. It's another one I have largely forgotten over the years and it doesn't stick in my craw like a lot of movies Russel has been in, but I found it enjoyable.

I'll have to watch Death Proof again. I wasn't really a fan of the other half of Grindhouse though... was it called Planet Terror?

Escape from NY and LA were freaking great... I think I liked NY better overall, but the ending of LA is one of the best movie endings of all time in my book. As I said before, The Thing is one of my all time favorite movies. I really liked Stargate and Executive Decision. I thought it was hilarious how Steven Segal died right away in that one. Miracle is quite good, he plays the hockey coach of the all-amateur college player US Olympic Team which first defeated the 100% professional Soviet Olympic Team in the Winter Olympics (no team had ever beaten the Soviet professionals). The name is short for "Miracle on Ice".
Dreamer was enjoyable, along the lines of Seabiscuit, Secretariat, National Velvet. The kid may have stolen many scenes.
Silkwood is very good, I think nominated for many awards, back when they meant something. One of Cher's first roles. Early Meryl Streep in the title role of real person Karen Silkwood, and perhaps her only topless scene. Only 2 Meryl roles I really got into, Silkwood and Bridges of Madison County. You really should see it sometime.
Dexter Riley was a character he played through several films when he was a teen, in the 60s. That is where most people knew him from. I think they were Disney films, when Disney did mostly comedies or slapstick.

His Silkwood role was not too far from Dexter Riley, so The Thing was huge for him, finally burying Dexter in the audience memory. At the start of The Thing he was just another of the ensemble cast, he was not a Star like now.

Well I was probably 4 years old the first time I saw The Thing with my old man and I had nightmares for weeks. Post "The Thing" Russel is all I ever knew.

I actually hadn't seen it again until I was around 22 or so when the Sci Fi channel was showing it commercial free except for a few plugs for the "new" XBox game of the same title that was coming out shortly. I was freakin' amazed at how well the special effects had held up and that's when I realized how much better practical effects were than CGI in almost all cases.

I've never seen or heard most of the other ones you've mentioned before The Thing, but I do know what Miracle is.

I actually made a few jokes on the RWED boards when the "But Russia!" stuff started last year. I remember asking something along the lines of "Hasn't Russia not been a thing since Kurt Russel coached the US Hockey team to dominate them?"

Maybe I'll check out some of his older works. Thanks for the recommendations.

Dreamer was 2005, the kid was Dakota Fanning.

His early films like Dexter stuff were the G rated works that were common stock on Saturdays as reruns during the 70s. So anybody watching TV in the 70s knew Kurt from that diet.

I saw a trailer for it. Almost looks like a lowbrow version of a sequel to Canadian Bacon, one of my favorite films. I may need to see this. Also has Emmanuelle Chriqui, Lynda Carter, Marisa Houghlin. Out 20 April.

Also noticed Submergence out 13 April, with Alicia Vikander. And she already has releases in Feb and March.

I loved Canadian Bacon. lol

Did you ever see the first Super Troopers? I don't know what I'd think of it today, but I loved it when I was a "kid". The first five minutes of the movie had me in hysterics. The rest of the movie had its ups and downs, but there was a lot of really funny parts in it and it's something me and my brother still quote today.

Cool... Marisa Coughlan is back for the sequel? I'm glad they did that since she's probably like 40 now. I figured they'd just replace her with some one line explanation about how it didn't work out and have some 20 year old bombshell in the role. Has she even been in anything since ST? I don't watch stuff... I wouldn't know.

How many roles can an actress have in a year?
While looking up The Long Home, I ran across Beth Grant again.
You may have seen her in Conman, Angel, 2 Guys a Girl and Pizza, plus Speed.
She has 214 acting credits on IMDb, and it looked like half of them were since 2012.
She seems amazingly busy.

A Quiet Place out 6 April. Horror thriller is the first film with Emily Blunt and hubby Krasinski acting, scripting and directing.

Interesting, but I'm not sure yet.

Wow. Krasinski really kicked his action career into gear with 13 Hours.
Now he'll be Jack Ryan on TV, perhaps the best casting ever for that role. Alec and bafflack were brainless, and Harrison was a few decades older than Ryan was supposed to be. If this casting happened before bafflack, the film might still be a viable franchise. Currently bafflack working hard to wreck DC Comics.
