After Mars gives Alita an ultimatum to either kill Nova now -- no more good attempts that keep ending in failure -- or else everyone you love dies when we handle Nova the Martian way, what Alita does next is impressive in the comic book. I did not expect what happened. It would make for a great movie finale. But then there is a coda in the comic book which is even better.

I have to say that is has really been a long time since I watched a newish movie that had top-shelf special effects, and I was kind of blown away by this. Probably a lot more than regular movie watchers who have seen special effects on this level before.

I found the effects to be far more impressive than the few Marvel movies I've seen even. At one point my brother said "after watching it for a while I kind of start to forget that she's not real". And that was true.

I was REALLY enjoying the movie... A LOT. But as the clock started ticking down and I realized that it wouldn't be a finished story, the magic began to fade. Disney isn't very wise at making choices on which horses to back.

There may be some hope though...

Did you peruse the Discussion thread again AFTER seeing the film? Did you find any interesting comments?
Or do you prefer to only discuss films before you have seen them?

There are 19 volumes in Alita's story. They weren't going to cram all 19 into one movie, but Hollywood could have jumped to volume 9 for the second movie.

I did not. But after being challenged, I just did.

It wasn't a very "deep" movie, so I wasn't expecting to find any comments about the meaning or anything. In my mind it was an exceptional popcorn flick.

As far as somebody mentioning that it was Rodriguez's best film by far, I almost agree with that. I still like The Faculty better. But I was the same age of the cast when it came out and I was dating a girl that liked the sci-fi stuff too so it was a rare memory of going to see the movies with a girl where I got to see what I wanted to watch and she enjoyed it too. If I was 30 when I saw it, I might not hold it in as high regard.

I loved Alita, but I probably won't watch it again unless there is a sequel. I wasn't a fan of the ending, but I do understand that it was meant to lead to something more. Hopefully that happens.

I thought it was interesting that Rappy didn't realize that was Jeff Fahey right away. The second he was on screen I said LAWNMOWER MAN!

Depends on the type of flick. As you know, I really hardly ever watch movies anymore.

Alita, at least to me, isn't a flick that requires much discussion beyond what a beautiful movie it was in terms of CGI and cinematography.

If you watch Under the Silver Lake though, and want to talk about it, I'd be happy to oblige. I'd even watch it again to have it fresh in my mind.
