SHINYGOODGUY

Maleficent - Angelina Jolie takes that movie, puts it on her back and says "Come with me, please"

It is fun, imaginative, inventive and magical. Jolie drove the movie's plot along with such icy determination and emotional charge that you forgive some of the flaws within the script (such as the motivation of the love interest). But that, as I viewed it, was minor compared to the overall entertaining quality of the film.

This is not your typical Disney film. It takes the story of Sleeping Beauty and spins it around in a whole new direction without dismantling the original fairy tale. My feeling is that it will be the surprise hit of the summer, and so far it has captured the imagination of both children and adults alike. Perfect it's not, but fully entertaining, partially due to the script, but mostly due to Jolie's performance.

A word of caution, this film has some intense scenes and may frighten little kids, so do not take children younger than 7 or 8 years old. I saw it in Real 3D and it proved to enhance the overall story, much like in Avatar.

So go and enjoy, with or without little kids in tow.

SISTER

I loved this movie, too Shinygoodguy!
Yes, there were some flaws; and the effects weren't all that great…but Jolie was marvelous and I have ALWAYS had a great deal of sympathy for many Disney villains. Nice to have the retelling!
